Heyo it’s pride month! Happy Pride, if that is something you celebrate in your particular version of yourself.

I’d love to hear what gender/romantic/sexuality identity words you are currently using, regardless of whether you think I know them or not (and regardless of whether or not you feel they qualify under the pride umbrella! I’m interested in knowing if you’re cis and allo and het too!). Drop a comment!

Here are mine:

I was really really really fascinated when I did the Gender Census and actively did not select nonbinary, because that is the word I use most often or maybe it’s just the word I use most often in front of [presumed] cishet people. But my gender is really “agender” or “genderneutral” or “genderqueer” or just “queer”. It’s not _exactly_ that I don’t have a gender, it’s more that my gender is a series of play and performance and not a singular identity? I’m not sure on that, I’m going to keep poking at that one (especially because despite the sound of it, I don’t usually use the term “genderfluid”.) Anyways, my pronoun is “they”1 and my title is “mx” and both of those make me so fucking happy every time I hear someone using them.

Romantically, I am “queer” first and foremost, but I also use bisexual pretty often and gay occasionally. Historically I have been attracted to and dated men (to the point where I sometimes joke I am the worlds worst lesbian –I have kissed a substantial number of FAAB people who later do not identify as female) but in more recent years it’s been pretty clear that I am attracted to queerness, whatever that means. I date very few people who are both cis and het (and indeed, my own gender means people who seriously date me cannot be irrevocably straight.)

Romantically I am polyamorous, and aim to not be the nesting/primary partner for any of my partners. I have been known to say both “my primary partner is work” and “my primary partner is dance” and I stand by at least the latter of those. I am in five serious relationships and have a small handful of comets or flirtations, some of which seem never to go anywhere. I keep a list of everyone I’ve ever kissed/fucked/dated and sometimes put future speculation on there because I am a horrible gremlin but also at this point I am interested to find out if I have enough historical data to actually make longterm predictions.

Sexually, I am slutty. Bodies are so _so_ attractive to me, and I wind up Noticing Respectfully people just about everywhere I go, because dang, have you seen people? People are so hot. Like...so many people are so hot. I have a lot more experience and confidence with penis-based-anatomy than with vulva-based anatomy. I don’t receive PiV intercourse, and I don’t believe in orgasms as the point of sex, which means my sex sometimes looks very different from what people might think. I am kinky and like tying just about anyone up, sexually or not. I’m wired a little funny vis-a-vis pain and pleasure and what makes me happy to receive. I’m the biggest voyeur in the entire universe and absolutely want to hear about your sex life, especially if it ~looks weird~ so I can reassure you that no that’s awesome and I’m glad you have weird things that make you happy.

Fundamentally, I am Queer, in the sense of “the only truly universal queer experience is doubting you’re queer enough”. There is room under my umbrella for you, and you are welcome here with me. Community is good and there is no such thing as a “good queer” to the people who hate us, so why not just be magnificently ourselves instead?

1: I have secret pronouns as well, a set of neopronouns that I am rolling around in the back of my brain to see if they ever actually amount to something good. You probably don’t know me well enough to get me to tell you what they are, especially because I haven’t quite worked out all the grammar yet. To be clear though, they are a joke, and that’s an important part of them, that they are something playful, because I could say “my gender is play” and be hardly shitposting at all.

I am writing these words on a little black thinkpad I have decided to call Melody Clementine Verandern. She runs linux! Which took me _fucking forever_ and required _four other people_ to actually make happen.

(I will try hard to write up an actual explanation and put it on the internet, mostly out of potential use for other people, but long-story-short, there was one little thing to change that no one ever mentioned to change and on Austin's advice to change we tried it and bam! Yayyyyy I hate computers and I do not understand why I have decided to do this to myself.)

Anyways, I name electronics after fictional women I like, and I name computers with German words, so that's where it came from. Melody is Mell Kelly's given name, Clementine is from the best books I read as a substitute, and Verandern is the German word for "change".

(Okay Kat, but Clementine is even more disasterADHD than you are and Mell is literally insane? Yes, this is going to be a very exciting computer. I am looking forward to mixing Clementine's introspection and awareness of herself, and Mell's easygoing nature and get-shit-done attitude. I regret absolutely nothing here).

The next few days are going to be Very Exciting as I do things like...gosh, literally everything. It's been something like eight months since I last had a working laptop of my very own, and this is a new hardware (why are the fn and ctrl keys wrong? why can't I pinchzoom the touchpad?) and a _brand_ new OS (I know absolutely nothing about linux) and there's a LOT to do. Hopefully this will be a fun way to keep myself busy, and not an agonizing slog.

Here's a todo list:

*I'm putting this first because a lot of the later things depend on it - I need to figure out how to make my backup drive from the previous computer talk to this one. Previous computer was a mac, and the beautiful automatic time machine backups worked *great*! I can plug the drive into Ezri's mac and see all my shit. If I plug the drive into this machine, so far I get a complete lack of folders where there should be a lot of folders. Research will occur!

*Once I can speak backup I'M GONNA HAVE ACCESS TO ALL MY MUSIC AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Absolutely that gets that many exclamation points, fight me. It's been ages, I have had to survive with solely what is currently stored on my phone. Of course now I have to choose some sort of music library software and learn how that works, yayyy oh gods. All I know is that iTunes has gone downhill with every version since aught-five, and fuck cloud-based storage solutions, I want to actually own my music.

*Back up my phone? Yeah, there's a lot of things I'm willing to do with the work computer, but this is not one of them. My fellytone does not get plugged into the work lappy, which means...yeah. Eight months, huh.

*Start fuxing with photos. I have a huge photo library and tons of time on my hands because ~pandemic~. Maybe I can work to combine these two things and start posting more photos or whatever.

*Download GAMES! Steam is an absolute must, as is whatever will get me access to Heroes of Might and Magic 3. (I own a copy from GoG, I just need to figure out the install instructions). For extreme bonus points (lol, not happening), figuring out how to get a copy of Gahan Wilson's Ultimate Haunted House would be _very_ cool of me.

*A whole lot of configuring work to make the keyoard do my fucking bidding. This absolutely must be possible, that's the whole damn point of linux. How do I have multiple workspaces? How do I quickly hotkey into them? How do I switch between programs and between tabs? ALL OF THIS IS SOLVABLE.
(ETA: I have since at least figured out how to switch between workspaces. it's a start!)

*"All of this is solvable" is hopefully going to be my motto going forward. But I'm also still leaving space for the idea that I do this for a month, say "that was a great adventure" and install back to windows. I'm not daft, I know that I am not actually a computer person, and that at my core I just want a box to do the things I ask it to. I also have literally no idea what anything means in terminal, and that's gonna be a pretty steep learning curve. Hopefully I am more looking forward to it than fearing it.

Gosh, I can actually start saving my words on the regular again.

...I can start a BehindtheWalls file again. That's...that's been a while.

So the moral of this story is...I'm happy. I'm going to have an adventure. There is going to be a _lot_ of screaming in my future. Advice is very _very_ welcome, including just straight up recommended reading suggestions --xubuntu 20.04, which I've already discovered looks different from regular ubuntu.

Have a good day, my lovelies.

Okay so here's the thing.

Since last _September_ I have been without a computer of my own. Mine broke, and I've just...been getting by with the work computer and my phone. This has been fine, but I'm growing increasingly tired of the limitations on work computer.

Translation: I tried to download steam so I can play some isolation video games, and was not capable of doing so because I am not admin on this machine.

SO I NEED A NEW LAPTOP COMPUTER! This is your thread to give me some advice and thoughts. Have at! If you read the notes below you will get some ideas about what I am looking for more specifically. Also there are swearwords because my boss is not on my Facebook.

Notes:

*Current machine is running Windows 10 pro. Previous machine was running Mac OS 10.9. I am confident in my ability to figure out how to use any mac or windows machine. I am not interested in learning how to linux, but I might be willing to hear your pitch, especially if it starts with "so this particular distro works a lot like the things you've used before".

*I definitely want a computer and not a tablet. I need a keyoard, but more importantly, I need to be able to download and run _programs_. Not apps. I am not an app based individual, I am Too Old for that. That being said, I'm not going to say no to a hybrid just because it's a hybrid, as long as it has a computer-like os and not an app-like os. I am not interested in a chromebook under any circumstances.

*Relatedly, I hate tap-click on trackpads and disable it ASAP every time I get access to a new computer. I use multi-finger gestures sometimes, but in general, assume I want to do just about everything via a) keyoard control and b) trackpad that I will actually click and not weird tapclick.

*Look, the most recent mac laptops come with two USB-c ports, one of which has to be used for charging and I CANNOT EMPHASIZE HOW MUCH BULLSHIT THAT IS. I would like actual ports. Please recommend me a computer that I can plug my USB shit into without a million extra hubs and adapters necessary. Yeah, this seems likely to mean next computer is "not a mac" despite having been running mac for my personal use for the twelve years before that, and I'm bummed but also apple is making shitty decisions about what I need and I don't have to put up with that.

*Relatedly, a headphone jack is non-negotiable, jebus I hope I don't have to say that.

*I _desperately_ miss the "spaces" feature of my mac laptop, which was SO GOOD for letting my ADHD ass-brain sort things out and separate them and have different spots for like work vs dance vs fun vs read later. I miss it _so much_ and you will get ten bonus points for recommending me something that lets me use Something Like That instead of cramming my taskbar with different windows that are a pain in the ass to flip through.

*I also desperately miss the versatility and reprogramability of my mac for changing keyoard shortcuts to be Whatever I Wanted. I think this is something I could do on the work computer if I had admin powers, but I'm not positive.

*Things I want to be able to do: Play video games (especially super dumb old games like a port of Gahan Wilson's Haunted House if I can find one, or Heroes of Might and Magic 3, which *might* be available on Steam), save like a hundred gigs of music, store a few hundred gigs of photos, write like a fiend. Other than the video games, mostly I am not planning to run particularly intensive stuff. I mean, also like the modern trend for zoom and stuff, but whatever. Honestly, I want a device I can store stuff on and play music from.

*The closer that I get to a computer that can survive being used as the ball in a game of calvinball, the happier I will be. Assume that I will drop it off my bed at least once a month, at minimum. (This is way more often than reality, but I'd like to cover my bases).

*I haven't gotten a new computer in about seven years. In an ideal world I would not buy another computer after this for close to seven years. My budget is, say, $1500, but I'm willing to go above that for things that are Very Good And Will Make Me Happy. It is plausible I can get a friends-and-family discount if I go apple which iirc is about 10% off. I have access to a costco membership and I know they do stuff on sale sometimes. I loathe Amaz*n and will not purchase through them until they start offering me *staggeringly* good deals. I have some degree of patience, but also, ADHD assbrain would really like to get this done since I haven't since September.

*Every new version of iTunes since 2005 has been increasingly ass, so like, I would also like a recommendation for a less sucky music storage and organization and playlists service. I am completely and utterly uninterested in cloud options, give me local storage and lots of it or give me death. Ditto for any useful way to manage thousands upon billions of photos and memes saved off the internet and shit like that.

*On a similar note, my iphone 6s is like...almost four years old and it hasn't started dying big time...yet. I should probably also get a new phone. I've only ever used iphones, but I am open to persuasion as to "what's good about smartphones these days". Pokemon go is a must.

As a last note, I hate change and I am going to be very sad in my replies to you. I promise I will do my best to keep my whining to a minimum, but this is a Big Expensive Change that is important for me to do but still ughhhhh. Please ask me questions and engage anyways, I have no idea what the current state of computer buying tech is like these days!

Mad sociologist time1! I want you to read the essay under this cut. It's about sex an' stuff so if that wigs you, go ahead and skip. )

Now for the part I'm really interested in. I have lots of friends, from lots of online places, and they come in a whole host of interesting sexualities. For the purposes of research, what gender did you assume the author to be? Do your opinions on that change if you read it again?

Theoretically, I'll post results in a couple weeks, except I think we've proven from my previous attempts at using the internet for SCIENCE that it will never actually happen. Have interesting discussion among yourselves instead.

(And if you find where I grabbed this from, no cheating and revealing the author. I'll let them do that later, if they feel comfortable.)

Hey hey people.

I am writing a thing in response to a fandom_secret (yes, I know that's basically just feeding the trolls, I don't care) and as part of it, I need some information/sources.

I am looking for media properties (movies, tv, comics, books, hell video games --anything telling a fictional story) that contain internet-based friendships, and treat those friendships as healthy or normal.

I am not looking for instances in which a meatspace friendship becomes an online one (due to characters moving or whatever) or for instances of internet-based dating, even successful. I'm not looking for real life stories (although I'm happy to hear them.)

Thanks in advance.

Oh, new question for everyone. This is totally stolen, without permission, from a friend of mine:

You are now in a massively over-the-top action movie. Bad Guys(tm) have swarmed your place of work. They are opposite-your-alignment, they are numerous, and you must defeat them in hand to hand combat! Lives are at stake --the *world* is at stake. Given two minutes lead time to prepare, how do you kick all the ass?

(Yes, this is at least partially to find out where you lot are working these days.)

It was brought to my attention that I do not especially know how to budget1.

That's mostly okay, in that I've been a dumb privileged white kid for the last bunch of years, and one of the infinite advantages of having parents willing to pay for college is that they pay for room and board too. Budgeting for me has exclusively thus far been "do I have enough money for that event I want to go to" and I can more or less afford that on babysitting.

But I'm going to join the real world somewhere in the next 3-6 months, and not only do I not have a great grasp on how much the world is going to cost, I don't think I have a particularly good grasp on what I'm going to be spending that money on. A friend mentioned that he was paying about a thousand a month, for everything except rent and utilities, and I certainly *think* I can keep my expenses under that number2, but I don't know if I'm managing to account for everything I'll need to spend money on.

So that's what I'm really asking for: What things am I going to be spending money on that I don't necessarily realize I'll spend money on?

Sitting down and thinking about it, I know there's:

*Rent and utilities
*Groceries/eating out (which is a huge "I have no idea" since I've been living off my meal plan for three and a half years --I imagine I should be able to keep myself fed grocery-wise for a hundred a week, I think that's about what I've spent on the (very few) times when I've had to fend for myself.)
*Dance, which is non-negotiable. If I can afford it in September, I should _absolutely_ get a season pass for SCD, which changes the shape of how much dance costs per month.

(as an aside, that's one of the things I'm finding complicated about trying to write a budget for myself, in that "monthly expenses" is easier than dividing "expenses per semester" by three, or trying to work out how much a year-pass would cost and when I would need that money and such.)

*Transit, which I imagine is hugely variable. If I only ever took the T places, it would be a straight 60/month, but I also have a bike to repair and a future zipcar membership, and taxis and stuff. But on the flip side, if the bike is in good shape, and the weather is nice, I can spend maybe like fifteen dollars on the T and spend the rest of my necessary transit time riding my bike.
*Laundry, which becomes more important as I have to wear more professional clothing, since I don't have enough of said clothing, and therefore have to do laundry more often.
*Also, buying more clothing of the professional sort. I mean, I rock the thrift-store chic so hard, so I'd like to hope I wouldn't be spending too terribly much on this, but it's still a thing.
*Meds
*Other hospitaly/medical things, knock on wood. I don't think this counts as a monthly budget thing, so much as a "I should try to set aside a couple hundred(thousand?) dollars as soon as possible to be my "oh shit oh shit I just broke my leg" fund3.

And...what else? The last time I did anything like this it was in my seventh grade home ec class, where I think I was "renting" an apartment for 50 dollars a month, so it's not like I was exactly being taught accurate numbers for the real world so much as "here's how to balance your monies!"

The real world is hard, whine whine. But dammit, if I'm going to be an adult4, I might as well do it right, and not have to rely on other adults (read: my parents) for taking care of me.

Just rely on them for advice.

~Sor
MOOP!

1: I have gotten as far as "If there is money in my account I can buy things, if there is not, I can't" and seem to do okay with that, but, uh, yeah.

2: More importantly, doing some googling and finding out how much I will make as a teacher implies that (assuming I get a job), I should be making at least 24k a year, which gives me enough for rent/utilities and "everything else". Assuming that my combined rent+utilities is in the thousand dollars or less range, which I think is an okay guess considering the places I've been looking at with Ria and Lauren and Mason.

3: Although, assuming I broke my leg, I could just transfer my dance fund to medical. Gods forbid.

4: I think I've decided that I don't want to be an adult because adults are ridiculously dramatic, often uncommunicative, and generally immature. I'd like to be mature instead. It seems much easier.

Postscript: And yes, I am writing actual numbers for these in another file, in a "trying to inflate everything so I wind up with too much money rather than too little" sort of way. But I figured that would be too gauche even for me to post.

And not in the file yet, because I don't know what the shape of my life will be like yet, is the concept of long-distance travel in order to spend time with faraway friends and SOs. Which could be eighty dollars a month for train tickets, or 500plus for a cross-country plane ride. Plane tickets are definitely my most expensive regular expense.

Also not in the file is the general thought of "here are things I want" and taking steps to buy those things. One of the reasons I want to have some discretionary income is so that I can start scouting sales for expensive things I want/need, so that when they show up for a decent price, I can get them without stressing that I've just wrecked my budget for the month. See also, the fact that I think I want 3 TB of external storage --one for joba, one for backup, and one for media.

a: If everything stayed the same, I don't think I would _ever_ fill a TB of stuff just of assignments and resources and grades and worksheets and lessons and everything teaching will require. But things keep taking up more and more space, and inevitably I'll be teaching Skype lessons with an uberboard or something, and each lesson will be a gig and a half or something.

This is the boring part of the post )

Well no more! I'm still a dumb college kid and I intend to take FULL ADVANTAGE of that fact! With that said, it's totally time for a BIG DRAMATIC FLOUNCY FLAMEWAR in my livejournal again!

We've discussed tunafish and peanut butter, but I don't think we've ever touched on the sensitive subject of grilled cheese. So.

What is the best way to make a grilled cheese sammich?

Do you butter both sides of the bread, or just one? Is American cheese verboten? Cheating to use a toaster oven instead of a frying pan? Remember, anyone who doesn't agree with you is probably a commie pinko leftist hippie scumbag who eats babies!

(Please differentiate in your comment if you're remarking on the behind-cut half of the post, and therefore do not want to join in on the sammich-flaming madness. Also, while name calling is a fundamental part of flouncy dramatic flamewars, please be sensible.)

Don't have all that much to write about today2. Finished "The Girl who Kicked the Hornet's Nest", meaning I'm officially done the trilogy3. Good books --trying to sift out who has and hasn't read them so I can gossip.

Before I start babbling about the books (and I invite you to add your own thoughts in the comments if you've read them), I do point out that one of the themes of the books is violence against women, especially sexual violence. So, trigger warning for rape, sexual and non-sexual violence, and pedophilia is in effect for this post and comments.

Some things I definitely love about the trilogy are spoilery )

I don't really have any other thoughts at the moment. Good read, all three of them, and now I'll have to find something else to read on the train. Recommended. Sometimes violent, though not super overly graphic, though like I said, lots of trigger-happy material. Your thoughts?

1: Roughly, I would like to see more characters who are non-white, non-middle/upper class, non-straight, non-Christian, non-abled, non-monoamorous, non-vanilla, non-standard-body-types, non-cis, and/or non-male. Because that's what many real people are like, and it would be satisfying if there were more representations of us in the media.

(And as always, it's perfectly nice when there are relatable, well-written characters who are any or all of the above. None of these traits are inherently a bad thing. But it's also almost sickeningly common, and that disappoints me.)

2: This is in reference to my 750words account, and turned out to be a bitter lie, as I ended just under a thousand. Also, it's been 61 straight days since I missed. Holycrapwow. A bunch of years ago, I had a summer where multiple people admitted to being into me, which was both awesome and more than a bit "what?" But the end result was that I made a comment-screened post on the subject, asking "why?!"

((Sometimes I am unabashed in my need for ego-boosting))

A couple weeks ago, I was having a conversation with a friend in which they mentioned "I have no idea what boys see in you"1. Because I am the queen of insidiously low self-esteem, my response was the highly rational and very helpful "I don't know either."

It triggered thought though, and so I've spent spare brainwaves from the last few weeks trying to sort out just what it is exactly that makes me That Girl. It remains a very true observation that I am --people, especially boys, like me. I can't help this, nor do I particularly want to, really.

The callous and to my mind logical first thought of "they like me because I put out" is presumably untrue, since as far as I can tell, nothing about my public persona indicates that I do so for strangers, and it's not like I have sex particularly indiscriminately, or really, much at all. Everyone I've shared a bed with over the last four years was a friend first, which means that they liked me *before* we got naked. Furthermore, I have male friends who would probably be quite willing to get sexy with me, but we specifically haven't, and they still find me worth hanging out with. So, whatever it is, it's not the sex thing.

The theory that I've been working on that I feel has the most weight to it is closely related to an essay that was posted on Polyamorous Misanthrope, and brought to my attention by Gabity-Gabe. The essay is about a boy who is extremely well liked by women, and posits that the reason he is so well-liked is because he genuinely enjoys the company of and platonic interaction with women. He doesn't just talk to women in the hopes of pussy, but because of the actual person around it.

Pretty much my whole life, I have had close male friends, often more so than female ones. This is because I really quite like males. I could not tell you what particular quality that leads me to enjoy male company more than female, but there must be some reason that makes it easier for me to make friends with other boys2 than with other girls2. I really do honestly enjoy the company of males, even when I'm not expecting to sleep with them.

This idea is strengthened by a theory I've had for a good long time now --namely, that someone being attracted to you is a *deeply* attractive trait. So, using that, we get the idea that my enjoying the company of males is something that they enjoy, and makes them more likely to enjoy the company of me.

Going even deeper with the above thought, we reach the idea that I am, for whatever degree of intensity or intimacy, attracted to a noticeable percentage of humanity. I fall just a little bit in love every other time I get on the subway. While I have definite physical types I prefer, none of them matter in the presence of an honest smile. If you're reading these words, I am probably attracted to you, at least a little bit, because you are human and alive and I find that absolutely fascinating. Humanity is beautiful, and each individual uniquely so.3

I've got a few other ideas as to what it is my boys see in me as well (and I haven't even engaged in the highly scientific response of just asking them and seeing if there are any common patterns) but I think that the fact that I really like boys, for who they are, is a pretty good start.

And now I open it up to you guys. What is it that people see in That Person that makes them so bloody attractive? Why do certain people just attract everyone and manage to get all the dates?

And sure, let's be egotistical here. What is it about me specifically that's just so damn attractive? Because I *still* don't see it.

So, just *ages* ago now, [livejournal.com profile] leemoyer made a post with some of his favourite lyrics in it. This prompted me to make a meme-post, urging people to identify the lyrics that I adore and provided.

I told myself at the time that I'd go ahead and keep adding to the playlist/file, because it's one of my favourite things on my computer. And now, it's been an age, and I actually have 25 more songs for you to try and identify! (plus a super bonus all-N2N-all-the-time section because Next to Normal has eaten my brain)

So yeah. Identified lyrics are in bold. Entries with an "-Or-" just mean that there were multiple sets of lyrics I loved from that song.

26) And remember Love's a verb

27) One little girl
Is just a bit confused
Thought that she was human too

28) Let's Dance to Joy Division
And celebrate the irony
Everything is going wrong
But we're so happy!

29) Did he buy your heart with Visa
Or his platinum Mastercard?

30) And hearts getting broken
Leads to people getting cold
-Or-
So what's the Complication
Yeah it's only Conversation

31) A little bit of anarchy
But not the hurting kind

32) All I need
Is one good night's sleep
In your loving arms
To mend

33) In fighting there's no dignity
It's such a waste of time
Take my hand
I don't think God will mind

34) Don't lose your head
Because every night
Who's in your bed?

35) We got no class
And we got no principals
And we got no innocence
We can't even think of a word that rhymes!

36) Ten years waiting for this moment of fate
Where we say the words and sign our names
If they take it away again someday
This beautiful thing won't change...

37) Oh you were the truth
Of my running mascara
The moment my mask
Was no more

38) I want adventure in the great wide somewhere

40) Freedom is being alone
I fear liberation
-Or-
And something more alive than the silence
Swallows conversation

41) That a life of great potential
Is dismissed, inconsequential
And only ever seen as being "cute"

42) I am nothing without you
But I don't know who you are

43) Wish you were here
Or else wish I was there
Don't you wish, that that wish, could come true?
I wish there were here
Or else I wish here were there
Don't you wish, silly things, like I do?

45) I'm not gonna live my life
On one side of an Ampersand
Even if I went with you
I'm not the girl you think I am
And I'm not gonna match you
'Cause I'll lose my voice completely

46) And the hardest part of life
Is to live while you're alive

47) Watch your heart when we're together
Boys like you love me forever
-Or-
Not psychotic or dramatic
I like boys and that is that.

50) If money's all you want
Then money's all you'll get
I'd rather be drunk and in love

51) Never been too good at asking
I'm more apt to do it alone
It's strange how a lot of us think something's wrong
When we can't do it all on our own

So tonight I'd like you to rock me to sleep
I'd like you to sing me a song
I'm tired of trying to figure things out
And I'm tired of being so strong.

52) Stop calling, stop calling, I don't wanna think anymore
I left my head and my heart on the dance floor

53) I'm not crazy, I'm just a little unwell
I know -right now you can't tell

54) Russian roulette is not the same without a gun
And baby when it's love if it's not rough it isn't fun

***

And these are all from Next to Normal, because it really is a fantastically quotable musical. Go ahead and identify the songs, one of you four people who know what I'm talking about:

39) Everything's great, why wouldn't it be great, it's great!
-Or-
And you're living on a latte and a prayer
-Or-
For what doesn't kill me, doesn't kill me
-Or-
We're the perfect loving family
If they say we're not, then fuck 'em!
-Or-
It only hurts when I breathe
It only hurts when I try
It only hurts when I think
It only hurts when I cry
It only hurts when I work
It only hurts when I play
It only hurts when I move
It only hurts when I say

44) And you find out you don't have to be happy at all
To be happy you're alive
-Or-
Give me pain, if that's what's real
It's the price we pay to feel
-Or-
The price of love is loss
But still we pay
We love anyway

48) Maybe we can't be okay
But maybe we're tough, and we'll try anyway
-Or-
We tried to give you a normal life
I realize now I have no clue what that is.
I don't need a life that's normal
That's way too far away
But something Next to Normal could be okay.

49) Natalie! And this must be Henry! A pleasure to finally meet you. Come in! Why don't you join us for dinner?
Um, dad, Henry can't really stay. He's got um..
It's gonna be good
...Homework.
It's gonna be good
...Surgery!
We'll sit right down together like a happy family should
...Rabies!!

Man, I *really* ought to make a CD that is just this much of all these songs. It would be pretty fantastic, in a seriously ADHD way.

Accusations that I only like emo lyrics and pop songs are...well...really true, actually. Whee.

Just a quick thought:

For a good long while now, I have been thinking in the back of my head about creating an actual difference between the journals [livejournal.com profile] kdsorceress and [livejournal.com profile] sorcyress. The former would continue to be what I use pretty much all my journals for --random life dumping, thoughts, silly questions, quotes, and occasional really good writing, while the latter would be restricted to just what I consider the "good" writing --things like my essays, stories, occasional forays into emo poetry, etc.

The entries on Sorcyress would probably be mirrored on kdsorceress, though not vice versa. It would pretty much be designed to give people a chance to skip all the babbling about my life, so they can cut straight to the things that will hopefully inspire discussion. It would also hopefully guilt me into actually writing more essays, so I could have content over there.

Thoughts?

Women are warm and soft and curvy, and squish in all the right places. They have nice breasts, and hips, and don't have sharp elbows or knees. They take care of their body, and do things to make it look and smell nice.

They know how to cook, and are good at it. They make things from raw ingredients, not from boxes, and know how to go shopping for what they need, and don't even bother with recipes, since it's all so very simple to them anyways.

They sew things. They can both make things from patterns, like costumes and period clothing, or they can modify things that they get from other stores, to make them fit better.

They know what colours look good on them, and what colours match with each other, and what colour belt you should wear with these shoes, and what pattern shirt you should wear with that skirt. They can tell what clothes flatter their figure well, and what clothes won't. They look good in dresses. They own proper underwear, with lace sometimes, that serves just as much as decoration as it does utility.

They wear make-up, often every day. They know how to do it subtle-like, so that no one can tell they're made up, and they know how to do it striking, to emphasize their eyes and cheeks and lips. They can apply lipstick in one go. They know what hues to use for their skin tone. Similarly, they know lots of pretty things to do with their hair, and can pick or choose to match the occasion.

Women follow when they dance. If they're quite good at dancing, they lead sometimes as well, but only with the very inexperienced. They are good at following, and do not try to back lead.

They are flirtatious in appropriate ways. If they are single, they can flirt with strangers out in the big wide world, catch eyes, ask boys for numbers, all that sort of things. If they are hooked, they know how to behave properly as half a couple, know when to kiss their boyfriend, and how to hold him and where hands should be placed.

They do not tell dirty jokes. They may be bawdy in groups of their closest girl friends, discuss vibrators or birth control or very mild kinks, but they wouldn't dare mention masturbation in mixed company, or be vulgar. They are not sexual creatures in public. They may sometimes tease their boyfriends in public, but no one else, and get embarrassed if someone notices.

They are monoamorous, and display cautious amounts of jealousy towards their boyfriend's female friends. They are heterosexual, except for perhaps a few incidents of experimentation in high school or college, and perhaps except for a best friend, with whom wildly over the top, and completely platonic flirtation can occur.

HAPPY EVERYTHING WILL GO RIGHT DAY!!

So far for me, things that have gone right include waking up next to a beautiful boy, getting to fold origami for teacher-class, and feeling as though I did really well on the Italian midterm. Yay!

What's gone right for you thus far today?

*poings around in happy ferrety circles, because damnit, today is the day for it!*

Of course, the annoying thing is that, if I want to have comments from you lot in my e-mail box in the morning, I have to actually generate content which you guys can comment on.

Doesn't matter. Time for class. See you later.

((Weird posts forthcoming, I suspect))

One year ago today, it was 2008, and I was (shocking nobody who's ever had an extended conversation with me ever) interested in gender and sexuality.

I also believe I originally meant to post up some thoughts on that poll, ages and ages ago, and then got distracted. At the very least, go fill it out for me if you haven't, okay? Or, if you want to do the really quick and dirty version in the comments of this post...

You list as [gender(s)]:
Explain:

You are attracted to people of [gender(s)]:
Explain:

You consider yourself [poly/mono/etc]:
Explain:

You are currently in relatinships best described as [none/mono/poly/complicated/etc]:
Explain:

And, bonus question, since I forgot it in the original poll:
Your preferred pronoun is:

Seriously. This kind of thing fascinates the hell out of me. Babble1 about gender and sexuality and stuff like that in the comments, please!

MOOP!

1: No, really, Har, Dodger, etc. I like hearing people's thoughts, especially about this. I am encouraging long comments, damnit. Don't let yourself be limited by the thought that I'm going to be overwhelmed --if you're that worried, just toss a one line summery at the bottom for ease of skimming. I promise to read the whole thing though.

You know what? Nothing amuses me like being silly, so I'm thinking I'm just going to repost this with slight changes.

Because three years ago today, it was 2006. And I decided to be a comments whore.

No one ever comments in my journal! Therefore, I'm going to delete it, and commit suicide. Possibly involving a fish, although I might use my Ravonous Bug-Blatter Beast of Traal.

After I'm done with that, I might go somewhere. Cool!

I've recently had a major life change! Thats right -I've morphed into an androgynous three eyed hooloovoo, with an extra arm shaped like a fork. And I'm getting divoriced from my friend Shirly. She's such a bitch.

But there are many cool people who aren't bitches. [livejournal.com profile] thorog's not a bitch for instance. He's smart. Same with [livejournal.com profile] naraht. And [livejournal.com profile] muzikmaker21 is of course just awesome. I got to see herhim
(Oh god this is old) this weekend. I also saw [livejournal.com profile] werewulf. And [livejournal.com profile] artemisfowl2nd. And later I get to see [livejournal.com profile] jere7my and [livejournal.com profile] marcmagus! But not [livejournal.com profile] macaroniandtuna or [livejournal.com profile] drama_angel3189 which is a shame, because they are also cool people.

I am wearing very little! I won't post pics though, because I'm embarrassedtoo lazy to turn on the webcam.

I saw this article about abortion in the paper. It was all about Montana's abortion laws. I think Montana is boring, except for Montana Jones. He's cute. Those are my opinions!

(((To all the people giving me VERY strange looks at this point, I'm merely playing with the idea of the Naraht-ian laws of getting comments)))
