The really significantly good thing from today was getting to go see Hadestown! This was extra important to do now, after it was nominated for its fourteen Tonys but before it won any of 'em and therefore became _really expensive and hard to get tickets to_. Having now seen it once, I really think I may do the KChen1 thing and buy a small block of tickets waaaaaay the fuck out in advance, then take whoever wants to go to NYC with me to go see it in exchange for them paying me back. This is a good plan! This is a terrifying plan.

This is where I say possibly spoilery things about Hadestown, all of which are positive because I liked it very much. )

Yeah, I think that's all. Really top-notch show! If you get the chance, definitely take it.

1: This is how I saw Hamilton! In an October, KChen emailed me to say "I bought tickets, would you like to pay me back for one of them?" and then I made my way to the city in April and did indeed pay him back and it was a fantastic show.

2: I'm sorry friends, but despite my endlessly TMI nature, some stories really are too personal for me to tell publicly, or largely at all.

Balticon is my Home Convention. Like, there's many cons that feel like home to me, but Balticon was the first con I ever went to as a Real Person (and not a kid-in-tow), and it's close enough to the homestead that I always see a lot of my lonnnnnng-term Maryland friends.

Plus, it's the con where I've got the most friends who I made at a con. Arisia, I generally spend a lot of time hanging out with friends from outside the convention scene, who I already know through dance or burns or parties or whatever. Balticon has the werewolf group, and the Balticon Kink Collective, and the Giggle1, and a TechnoFandom subset that feels warm and vibrant and welcoming, and a handful of costumer acquaintances, and it's just such a wonderful reunion, every year!

This year? No exception. This year was _incredible_, not just one of the best Balticons I've ever had, but probably one of the best *cons* I've ever gotten to enjoy. It was my tenth year, and I am so incredibly glad I made it.

Now onto the report! I'm cutting the Ugly section separately, since there's a tw for creepy rape culture )

Someday I'm gonna have a con report that doesn't have an Ugly section and it's gonna be awesome. :/

Bad-Meh-Good-Awesome-Transcendent below this cut )

Okay!

This is already a pretty long con report, and I keep finding new bits and remembering other lovely pieces and I LOVED THIS YEARS CON SO MUCH.

Hopefully pictures will forthcome. For now though, sleep!

1: I only learned this year that there's a name for 'em, and also just how vast the conspiracy goes. H'apparently, there were five girls born to fannish parents in a span of about 54 weeks back in 95ish. I've been friends with Nikki and Maura for ages, and got to know Victoria a lot better this year, which was great.

2: I may have met Matt at my first Balticon, I have known him _forever_.

3: Did you read this line and immediately know where I got it?

This is further Balticon con-reporting. Also, if you haven't bothered to click on the cut from my last entry, it's probably worth it. Slutty but Sweet and all that.

Part One

Tweets are still in italics )

And this last tweet has nothing to do with Balticon at all:

23 days. Twenty three days, two hours five minutes. Oh my god. This is suddenly actually Real.

It is. It is absolutely positively real. And it is also 21 days 23 hours and 51 minutes.

So, like I did with my NEFFA report, this con report is going to be based around the tweets I made, with elaboration as I see fit.

Let's begin! Tweets are in italics )

At any rate, holy shit, it's both getting late and this entry is getting long. I'll post the other (next?) half of the con report in the morning or something.

I talk too much. :/

So, a proper report of the last few weeks!

On the fourteenth, I got my drivers license, because I am rad.

On the fifteenth, I flew Home and went to Arisia )

Nineteenth was Monday of Arisia. While packing, I think to check the internet, find out what time I can move into my dorm. I mean, last year I could doso just post Arisia, it seemed sensible to expect the same out of this year.

...heh.

"Hey mom? It says I can move in at noon. On the twenty-fifth."

Luckily, I had a handy dandy Magus who I could beg into giving me crash space for a week, so I did that.

Twentieth through the twenty fourth, I hung out with Magus, caught almost all the way up on Doctor Who (just need to watch the Christmas Special!), had a grand old time of things, and did a few other things, like harassing j7y more (it is a hobby! Also, we watched Mighty Boosh!!) and babysitting. And maybe I had a teeny tiny breakdown somewhere in the middle of All That, and had to spend a little bit of time righting my brain.

Twenty third was Friday of Vericon )

The twenty-fifth I skipped Vericon completely, moved in eventually, hugged my roommates, and got dragged to a lesbians house to watch a movie called "Wristcutters: A love story". I kinda want to write fanfic about that setting, though I think I'm not emo enough. Good movie though, very light and fun and reasonably fluffy. And romantic, of course.

The twenty sixth was today, and I'll report on all my classes once I've had the other two. Can I just say EEEE, CALCULUS! though?

And now food and dance. Ta!

Arisia!!

So, around noon thirty, mom and I tossed my things into the Prius, and I drove us to the airport. I said my tearful goodbyes, checked in, bla bla, made it safely to Boston and subsequently, the hotel where Arisia is held.

And have been doing a very mellow sort of "well, who needs help?" thing. Er, was, before the tech meeting anyways (and in between the staff den having cake!) After the tech meeting...well...Spence wanted to know how to be a good TD so he squirreled a handful of people away to go drink beer and tell stories, and I somehow got invited along. So that was cool.

Oh, and I already have my volunteer shirt --I just have to get them my time sheet eventually or they'll hunt me down. I'm thinking at six tomorrow when the con starts just getting Spence to sign off on the last of my hours and dropping it by the volunteer den. *I* wound up with an omgbright orange one, because I am awesome. Er, by which I mean, the omgbright orange ones came in two sizes --5XL and kids. I fit into a kids large, because I am cute and tiny like a hamster, *and* I figured out the right people to suck up to.

Also, notetoself, the really *really* fucking cute pigtail boy who you keep seeing places is called David. Alsoalso notetoself, the adorable smotf1 with the half-blue hair is called Z-bang (spelling?). Pay attention to him, he is both pretty and knows what he's talking about. And he has an industrial, *jealous*.

Annnnnd that's all. I'd say I have to be up early tomorrow, but call is at noon. (I love my TD). Oh, and in a fit of "Wow this con is clever", breakfast is being served from eight AM to two PM. Someone knows how fen work. <3

Andyeah. Don't really much know what to do with myself, other than kick back, relax, and enjoy the calm before the chaos. See you all later!

Ohman, weekend!

Friday, I pretty much just hung out with assorted college kids --Lauren, Emily, Ty (Em's boyfriend), Ria, Maddie, Dominik, and Cecily-- from about noon until three in the morning. It was kinda righteous.

Lauren and I watched Saw II somewhere in the middle of that one. It's pretty good, and ohman am I a wuss. Just kinda in general. Various groupings of people also watched Willard and Thank You For Smoking, but I was phased out on the computer for most of that. (Fucking TV tropes.)

Saturday, I woke up when the amazingly amazing Lezzie-Beth called me and was all "Uhm, lab hours for Play Productions class, kthanksbai?" (in not quite those words) I wound up working in the theatre for the next five hours or so, helping to make a chastity belt. Which was kinda fun, especially the interlude in the middle where me and Lezzie-Beth wound up looking at assorted torture devices, as part of the "hmm, lets google chastity belt for reference!" thing.)

Got food, went upstairs...and shut myself into my room for all hours. I think my goal was to never leave and be real life social ever, mostly because I was...slightly socialed out.

This was actually a good thing, as it culminated in having a much needed gossip session with my fabulously sexy best friend, Veronica (seriously, go look at her new usericon. What the *fuck* Belanie1, no one has any right to look that amazingly good.) Of course, just as we started to get to the really good bits, my internet connection went all "fuck this shit!" and died on me. So me and V need to finish that gossiping sometime, probably/hopefully over spring break.

Me and The Katters wound up tossing text messages back and fourth for about an hour, while I did some housecleaning, and then I went to sleep. At four in the morning.

Eleven and a half hours later, or so, I woke up again. Man, there is nothing that will totally fuck up your sleep schedule as much as waking up at three thirty in the afternoon. On the plus side, I do feel particularly well rested.

Once awake, I stumbled downstairs, got food, remembered that I had been invited to [livejournal.com profile] xalolo's for gaming, went "Shit yes!", put on clothes, and walked to Harvard Square so I could catch a bus to his place.

...and waited. For a really frigging long time. Rarrrrrr.

EVENTUALLY the bus showed up, and I went over, and said hullo to Chris ([livejournal.com profile] xalolo) and to Nathan (Lab Rabbit with pretty hair) and to other assorted people, and wound up getting sucked into a game of "Covert Action", which is an pretty good game with a terrible winning mechanism. Like, "Planet Hollywood" terrible, only *worse*.

Played a couple rounds of Sixis, which is currently in beta, and I got to play a bunch of when I went and worked for Chris a couple weekends ago. It's interesting to play it as a team game instead of a two person game. I'd like to try it with three sometime now.

Played a game of "Blue Moon City" which is a suprisingly fun "God, this is the sort of game I hate, isn't it?" game. Part of that may have been that it takes about 20-40 minutes to play. Still though, I may have to accept that strategy/thinking games are not inherently evil.

(Totally unrelated note: WANT ICEHOUSE. WANT PLAY! Who's in Boston and willing to play with me? *whines*)

And then we played a million zillion rounds of RockBand, because it is the greatest video game ever. I no longer suck at the drums part on medium for "Foreplay/Long time".

Annnnnnnnnd I'm out. Class soon. I may wish to eat something. Hmm, maybe I should curl up in a corner and read. I haven't done too much of that lately.

To anyone in the Bostonish area:*

The production that has eaten all my time goes up next weekend! So you should all come and see it, because, well, it's...fun. Yeah, fun! :D

In all seriousness, it is a little bit flakey, but it has planes, and aviation history, and pretty good music and yeah. You should all come.

Vitals:
Who: Lesley University, the school I go to. Yepyep.

What: Wild Blue! A musical about the history of aviation and weird dreams. One could argue that it's actually about a really bad LSD trip. Um...planes?

Where: Lesley University's Marran Theatre.

Walking directions: Go down Mellen street (off Mass Av) until you get to the steps leading up. Go up those steps, turn towards your left and go into the building by the main doors. You should be facing a flight of stairs. Ignore those, and kinda go to the left and back. Yay, it's a theatre!

If you need better directions, e-mail me.

When: November 16th and 17th at 8 PM, November 18th at 4 PM

Why: Because it supports theatre, because it's a musical with Da Vinici and Amelia Earherdt in it, because if you let me know you're coming I'll come and give you hugs afterwards, and because it's cheap.

How: Show up, pay us five dollars, watch show, enjoy, clap. Easy as pie.

sorcyress: Drawing of me as a pirate, standing in front of the Boston Citgo sign (Default)
Hokay. So. I was at Balticon this weekend.

The really really REALLY quick conreport?

1) Fun fact: Number of hours Sorcy spent sleeping from Thursday to leaving the con on Monday: 10.5

2) Fun fact: Number of hours Sorcy spent playing Are You A Werewulf during the con: 12

3) [livejournal.com profile] lonebear, I was given a present by [livejournal.com profile] marcmagus to pass on to you. When are you coming over next, and are you bringing your most excellent geetars?

4) I've been promised a ride and a badge in exchange for working tech at Philcon. Yay for making friends with TD's. :D

5) I have a new Boston mommy named Persis (spelling?), who I will add to my flist once I stop being lazy.

6) Scritchies good.

7) If you have two esclators with the railings travelling in opposite directions, right next to each other, you can pull off some pretty cool OkGo style stunts.

8) If you've never seen the OkGo video with the treadmills, you NEED to click on the above link. It is *awesome* (Magus, I think I'm directing that at you --were you the one who said you hadn't seen it?)

9) The invention of the con suite was one of the greater inventions ever.

10) I apparently make a pretty good werewulf, seeing as I won both times it happened. Being a seer is just really REALLY bad for me though...

11) Never ever ever EVER ask who the Seer is.

12) JungleSpeed is a truly awesome game. It is a combination of Egyptian Ratscrew and Blink, and I think that Veronica may be the only person I know who knows both of those games.

13) Hand rolls(?) of sushi are awesome. They are a cone of seaweed with sushi inside. It's a sushi ice cream cone, and possibly the second greatest thing I got to eat during the con.

14) Baguette + cream cheese + really really squishy good smoked salmon = amazing. Thank you Persis.

15) Origami dodecahedrons make AWESOME conversation starters. Also, NTS: Make more segments with my e-mail address on them to pass out to all the people who ask how they're made.

16) Werewulfs that DON'T lynch the seer are morons. Really truly, people.

17) Favourite phrase this weekend: "I'd love to buy that, but I'm currently as broke as a Windows machine." (Me)

18) Moooooooon, I bought you a trinket! It is small, but I think you will very much love it.

19) Parents who are fannish, and have friends who are fannish and have watched you grow up rules, mostly because I have a steady flow of people to adore me and make sure I've hit such basics as "eating" and "drinking more water"

20) I, of course, don't have a voice.

21) Jannyblue continues to be just about as awesome as can be, including giving me a box of random awesome trinkets, INCLUDING about two dozen of the little origami dragons she folds so I can learn how. Incidentally, Janny, mum says hi to you, and after learning that you were connected to Rob, says hi to him too. (She's in love with his parody of Skullcrusher Mountain)

22) And for the record, mum says hi to Magus too, who is also awesome, and has an "Orc and Pie" shirt, damn him.

23) I get to GRADUATE today! Oh JOY!! [/sarcasm]

24)
Never before have I found a comic in the dailies that fit me so perfectly. And the fact that it's today, on graduation day...beautiful.

25) I will post a proper con report soon, what with chronological order and squeeings and the like. As for now, I am going to go work on the current Neopets plot some more. They have given me a puzzle. I must solve it.

Eleven nominations, we won seven of them. That is better then freshman year (percentage wise anyways) and MUCH better then last year.

AND WE WON BEST SET!!! WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Alex. Since he complains when I call him Drummer_Dude, even though D_D makes a cute little face. But I digress.

Alex is one cool Sluggite. He rocks out on drums (no really?) is a huge RenFest fan, and is an ex-techie. Most excellently glorious. I believe we first became friends through our mutual theatre obsessions and the fact that we enjoy glomping people.

He's a terrible flirt (rather like me actually...) which leads to some...*wicked grin* fun conversations between us. *scritchies A.*

He GRADUATED this past year (YAYAYAYAYAYAY!!!) which is always a wonderful thing. So congrats on that darling. Good luck with college. And he's currently working at a FIREWORKS store! I am jealous. VERY jealous...

I'd love to be able to hang out with him some time, unfortently, theres this whole Florida thing. It's annoying. Maybe next time I go to Disneyworld. Provided that he actually LIVES somewhere near Disneyworld.

Sadly, I don't think we're heading down anytime soon. And even more sadly is that I really haven't gotten to chat with him very much lately. *tear* I shall have to fix that at some point! *looks determined* Because D_D (sorry, force of habit) Alex is too cool to ignore.

Annnnnd...*mindblanks* That is all! Just know that he is a wonderfully cool Sluggite. And a MOD! Which is *neat!*

The Importance of Being Ernest (Which is mega-awesome, playwise) is being preformed at Long Reach High School tonight and tomorrow at 7 PM. Tickets cost 5$ for students, and 7$ for adults. I personally am not in or teching it, but I helped with the set some (which is Godly) and I'm going to be loitering around being hlepful.

So, for those who don't bother reading paragraphs...

What: The Importance of Being Ernest, an awesome play
When: Tonight (Friday) and Saterday at 7 PM (1900 hours)
Where: Long Reach High School (e-mail me for directions, or just google-maps it or something)
Cost: 5$ students, and 7$ adults

And the Why: is of course because Oscar Wilde was brilliant, and it's HILARIOUS! I saw it last night, so I can assure you of that one.

See you there!

Cat and Mouse updated! *gasplustloves!!*

The play('s) last night were quite enjoyable, even if I'm very very horrid at Shakespere. And Rick was wearing this INCREDIBLY hot leather trenchcoat (*drools*).

Bruce stole my hat ruthless-like, but I forgive him A) because I gave it to him really, and B) because he looked quite sexay.

Emily and Allyssa make HIGHLY hot boys.

Veronica makes a funny looking crazy old man.

Eric stole my hat. Bastard. Lilly stole it back for me though, so it's all good.

And I maintain that I did NOT promise to stop anything. You simply put the words in my mouth. So I can tickle you if I please, so nyah.

And techies are awesome. Just...yeah.

So yay! That was my yesterday. I got to see all three shed-boys, Veronica in a beard, and something like seven good actresses dressed as boys.

One night down, three to go. Then it's two half days and we're off to Connecticut, that merry land of people and thanks.

The Schedual:
Wednesday: Finnians Rainbow Dress Rehersal @ Long Reach Status: Done
Thursday: Dr. Jeckyll, no place to Hide @ Howard Status: Done
Friday: You Can't take it with you @ Resevoir Status: Hoping!
Saterday: Finnians Rainbow, leave at intermission, go to Crusin through your Teens (big GS event) w/V and KT. Status: Confirmed
Sunday: Symphony of lights walk through (= cool) Status: Confirmed

So, don't expect to be seeing me around much over the next few days.

Dr. Jeckyll, No Place to Hyde was VERY fun. Small cast (10 people, and about...7? crew) but very efficient. I got autographs from 7 of the actors (go me) and then wound up hanging out with the Howard High School techies after the show.

Joe drove me home, and I didn't die, which means he must be doing something right.

I am going to sleep now.
