I have apparently determined that listening to "Between"1 on endless repeat is fun and a good idea! Doubly frustrating, because I was doing this a couple weeks ago, too --I don't like being in the same gloomspace twice in a month. I thought I had snapped out of this one already.

***

Went into my multivariate calc exam fully expecting to fail. Sat down to maybe scrawl some notes down for a study sheet, and realized that I hadn't actually learned anything all semester. It felt a bit like those stereotypical dreams2 where you didn't know you had a test and so didn't study, except without the waking up part. Quite awful.

Luckily, I was able to pummel my memory into at least writing down something for every part of every problem, and I do think I had some idea of what I was doing on a few of them. I did manage to correctly remember what cross-product multiplication of vectors was, so, yay me I guess.

But yeah. Things I learned this semester: Parameterization. WoooooooooooowhydoIsuckatmath?

***

I am supposed to be packing right now, as today I move the rest of my stuff out and start on my grand gallivanting adventure that I really just *have* to get some e-mails out about. First though, I think I need to find somewhere in Porter Exchange to scavenge breakfast from. So yes, breakfast, then go home and throw everything into boxes, then commit seppuku, then...wait, spellcheck recognizes seppuku? I am astonished, I was just throwing that in to check if anyone was paying attention.

...today is one of those whiny days where I really want attention. I'm going to have to snap my mind out of that before I get annoying, since I'm painfully aware of the fact that me being all *cling, paw, paw, paw* at people is in fact, not charming.

(Today is also one of those whiny days where I somewhat want to hide forever. I'll see how well I can manage that once I've finished packing.)

***

Rackle is really really cool, and said some good words to me last night that I should reread at some point and remember.

1: By Vienna Teng. Good song, great waltz, really honestly kinda depressing as hell when you listen to the lyrics. Multiple depressing ways to look at it, too. It's *brilliant* or something. The fact that it's invaded my world for the moment might be a bad sign, not really sure. I think I prefer to sort out the problems that it expresses rather than collapse under the weight of them. Wooooo, cryptic!

2: I don't remember if I mentioned it when xkcd brought it up, but I don't have stereotypical dreams. I have only rarely dreamt myself naked, and never had my teeth fall out. I've never flown (though I would fall for a while, but not endless falling --just a ten-twenty foot drop half sliding alongside a wall). My dream tropes involve getting uncomfortably groped by people I'm supposed to be platonically fond of. Oh, and food. I have good food dreams unfairly often.

Every six months or so, I'll attempt once more to do the Big Paper Sorting Project.

Which, as might be guessed from the name, consists of taking all the papers in my room, sorting them out, and recycling as many as I can bear to part with.

All this really means for this journal is that I start posting weird collections of quotes and one liners and the like --words I want to save, on papers I want to recycle.

No, today is not going to be a big post. I just feel like giving you this:

The Rules:

1) Avoid Stupidity

2) No Wigwams

3) Boys are the stupidest thing to fight over. So are girls. Don't do it.

4) You are the most important person in your life
4a) Your happiness is more important to you than anyone else's

6) No dancing until homework is done
6a) If given the opportunity to shag Randall Munroe, TAKE IT!

Yeah, these are the ones that are pretty much set in stone. I do, in the back of my mind, occasionally mutter about breaking rule three, largely as it's been rule three since...ninth grade? Tenth? Maybe even earlier.

Oh, alright, one more glimpse into my strange and twisted mind:

Stuff I learned this year1

*Grasshoppers2 are *delicious*
*It's okay to cook things from scratch (and awesome)
*Work like a real person
*Bullshit is still the primary component of all essays
*Skirts rule!

Ohmygod!

So, just after the xkcd meet-up, I joined the xkcd forum for a while. Out of it, I wound up making a friend, Phi, who I talked to for a while on IM, before eventually losing track. Oh well.

So yeah. I don't think I've talked to him in more than a year. He IMs me today, which is pretty cool, because, hey, geek.

3:43:42 AM Phi: So, first things first, really.
3:43:59 AM Phi: I kind of wanted to thank you for being like the first person I talked to outside of xkcd on the interbutts.
3:44:06 AM Mostly Just Sor: Haha
3:44:08 AM Mostly Just Sor: Okay!
3:44:15 AM Phi: Beecause this led to me wanting to hop into some chatroom.
3:44:20 AM Phi: Which led to me meeting one of the mods.
3:44:28 AM Phi: Which led to me dating her for now over a year! \o/

THOUGHTS WHILE PACKING:

1548:

Man, my folder of worship is getting *awesomely* full. One Comedity print, original art by Randy Milholland, Randall Munroe, and Jeph Jacques, a random commision of a dinosaur I bought at AnimeBoston, Hiro's milk mustache ad, the picture of me that Dominik used as a print for his portfolio, and my still alive index cards.

And that's not counting the Maryland folder of worship which contains an obscene amount of KattersArt, and my original sluggy art.

(For reference, the folder of worship is basically full of everything that goes on the wall of worship. So, not real posters, but Other Cool Things. I should put the ST article I ripped out of a magazine in there too.)

1557: Dude, that's James Bond? What the hell is James Bond music doing in my iTun...ohyeah. Thanks Talia!

1636: Unrelatedly to anything (I'm fine today, just a little stressed out) I find it really interesting that, one of the things I do when I'm trying really hard not to start crying in public, is to begin seeing how much of the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy I can recite.

Granted, this somehow backfires as I originally began to learn hitchhikers as a self-masochistic way to illustrate the 2718.89 miles between me and my clone, and if I think too hard about that I'll be depressed, but still, just as a "shit shit I need to distract myself from everything in real life" it works like a charm.

1925: ...Ohyeah, I was working on this. Well, I mean, Ria was all "doof?" and dhs was all "I'll bribe you to come to Diesel with the offer of giving back your clothes" and so I went and got dinner with Ria and Mando (who recently dyed his hair BLUE and so now looks not unlike a character of mine) and then went to Diesel where I stayed for like...an hour or something. On the wicked plus side, I was finally properly/formally introduced to [livejournal.com profile] sunspiral, which is exciting. *adds him as a friend*

Now all I need to do is properly meet Cthulia and I'll be able to officially consider myself a Boston based fen.

2137: Did I really just spend the last two hours reorganizing my friends lists, again? Fuck. Me.

2224: You know what I want to know? I want to know how long it would've taken me to meet and become friends with Janny without the sluggy.net link. I think the only other person on my friends list who I could say pretty confidentally that I would meet without however I met them having happened is dan4th. And maybe very vaguely possibly Magus, but only insomuch I would've started to meet him at Balticon '06 rather than Origins '04

I'm attempting to clean out my gmail inbox, ie, archiving everything I'm done with. I had 1209 messages from 2008 sitting in my inbox waiting to be archived and about 4500 overall, I am *hilariously* bad at this, and not just because of the several hundred comment threads of doom I'm ignoring with mek.

OH! And I might be going to GenCon this year!! Mom's going, and if I can get the time off from wherever I will be working, there was an implication of me being able to booth babe for Joan. :D!

2237: So, something Tristan asked me right when we found out we were both virgos1 was "So what's your neurosis?" I can't remember exactly what I answered --almost certainly my default compulsion, the fact that I clean my glasses overly often, and every single time I ever get into a conversation about OCD or neuroses. *speaking of which, cleans 'em now. Sigh*

But I think my current big one is the neck thing. I hate hate HATE having my neck touched, it freaks me out. Occasionally, I'll just freak out about the fact that I have a neck for no good damn reason which pisses me off, especially when I get the "ohgodohgod, need to have nothing near my neck, RIGHT NOW" Necklaces and collars I can take off. T-shirts are harder. Skin is impossible.

I was idly thinking about this, and about the fact that, when doing the cuddling/petting/caressing fan situation that I seem to find myself in a lot, if someone gets their hands too close to my neck, I will invariably move their hands down.

At some point, I am going to inadvertently move their hands down to far and accidentally cause someone to grope me. Stupid fucking neuroses.

2301: Oh, bitches!! So, I'm looking at my class schedule, and the creative writing class I really wanted to take because hey --Sorcy likes creative writing!-- takes place on Thursdays. From 6:45 to 9:15 PM.

Yeah, when is Concord based contra again? What's that? Exactly that time? What the fuck Belanie. What the fuck.

(So now I have to decide if I'm going to try and find another class to take instead or if I'm just going to not start doing contra up here until next January --I suspect one of the deciding factors in which I choose will be how much contra I get in over the summer.

Still though. Bitches.

I really don't know how much R.Munroe reads, but this is just spooky.

A couple of weeks ago, someone on snarkoleptics posted a basic "xkcd is less awesome then it used to be" which is true --I'm not geeky in the right way to get most of his jokes, so it's often a hit or miss comic. The past couple weeks have been good, and I still read it the day it comes out, but it had been lagging.

The past four comics are all wonderful, for one reason or another. Last Wednesday was a good joke about breakout, which is one of my favourite games ever, Friday was a decently good bit of absurd humour, also: zombies.

Monday was the day I got the "Can we fix it? / No it's fucked!" call regarding Seren. Yes, that is spooky and strange and I'm kinda creeped out by the fact that he is apparently stalking me. And today's is just something I've wanted to do for a while --get a windowsbox and virus the hell out of it.

So yeah. Kudos to you, Randall! You do good work. <3

xkcd made me laugh out loud for the first time in a while now. Not to say that Randall's lost his touch or nuthin, he's just been doin' a bunch of the smart-kid jokes that I don't get.

(Actually, Making the world a Weirder Place made me giggle like a giggle-fiend. So it hasn't been that long since there's been one that I could "get". Wow, that's so not something I have to worry about when I read Garfield. God bless internet comics.)

In semi-related news, one of the computers in a cafeteria had the Interesting Life comic set as the background! And I TOTALLY DIDN'T DO IT!

So that means that there's at least one other xkcd fan at Lesley, who's devoted enough to do things like leave it as a background. SQUEE!

EDIT: In other news, Randall is pretty much an amazing artist. No seriously, look at that last panel. The stick figure guy is clearly getting up to go get the crisco. Before any actual posting gets done, here in the first line that people actually read, I just need to say that Skullx is SUPER AWESOME! for making me a new avatar, without even being asked. The extremely astute may note that it looks exactly like the other avatar he made me, only about four years older, in Boston, and with a duck. Oh, and wearing glasses, since apparently my original pirate skullx doesn't have glasses on it (Which I totally didn't realize until just now.)

So yeah. Skullx is incredibly awesome. *gives him cookies*

Onto other stuff.

Eventually I may get the "what I've been doing" post up, but in the meantime, this is just a bookpost, mostly to keep track for myself.

Yesterday I read:

The Pirates Mixed Up Voyage by Margaret Mahy (Who is apparently an EnZed native and I would TOTALLY GO STALK HER if I ever got out there.) I actually started this one a few days over, but I read most of it yesterday. It is, of course, my favourite childrens book ever, and my "Today has blown donkeys, I need a good book" book. This was the first time I'd read it in about five months due to assorted circumstances.

and

Rats Saw God by Rob Thomas. I've read this once before, and I enjoyed it just as much this time. Rats Saw God is a sort of counterculture coming of age story, with a narrator who is actually intelligent, and a lot of dadist art and culture floating around. It's a pretty good story, and what kick started my (albeit small) interest in dada.

More later. I actually hope to chronicle every book I read while up here. For now though, I need to do some homework.

I will say this about todays adventures: I walked over to the xkcd park, mostly to find out how long it would take (about half an hour if I go the Mass Av route --I'm sure there's a quicker way, it just requires more directions) and it is a Good Playground. The giant pyramidal thing in the satellite view on GoogleMaps? It's a giant thing to climb on, made entierly by rope fastened together in various shapes. It's beautiful.

September 23rd can't come soon enough!

First off, xkcd continues to be the single most amazing comic that has ever been written. Seriously, that may be my new friendslist criteria. If you are NOT reading xkcd, then you have no right to be on my friendslist. It's amazing.

As for that specific comic, I think I need to go do that now. Get a couple kites, go out on the streets, and run with it.

Hmmm...if only there was particular space time coordinates that are less then two miles from my college where a lot of xkcd fans would be gathering...

:D

Completely unrelated, can doing things "FOR SCIENCE" now be known as "Pulling the lever the second time"? Because I think that that's an awesome name for it.

Second off, thanks to ShadowKev for finding the LOLcky Horror Picture Show.

And by thanks, I mean, you're a disturbing man for managing to locate it. Whatthefuck, man? *grins*

Woke up early today, (ish...okay, nine thirty. But on a Saturday!) and wound up achieving things, which was a nice change. Mostly just did laundry and failed to work on my room, but it was still things!!

Went jogging with dad, proving to myself once again that I need to increase my constitution score. Eh, I wasn't *too* bad. Just not...steller.

Eventually wound up leaving house around one to explore the world (Well, Rockville) with Ksatyr. Which was all very excellent we started by hitting up a really reeeeeeally good vegan resturant called the Vegatable Garden, where I got sushi (mmmmmmmmm!!!) and continued out from there. Visited the Veggie Garden, a nearby toys'r'us, Dream Wizards (a local game store, which is really just another, more grown-up toys'r'us), a Mom's Organic Market, and Pangea, which was a lovely little Vegan food-and-other-stuff store.

So yes. You learn all manner of funfacts when wandering the world with a Vegan, mostly having to do with the fact that suprisingly little shtuff in the world is edible. Also, green flavoured Naked Smoothies look like sewersludge.

Got home to movie night, ran around and played several cacaphonus rounds of "This is a duck." with people, and eventually settled in for moviewatching and whatnot. We watched Oceans 11 and Oceans 12, both of which are quite fun.

Annnnnnnd...that'slife. It was all very good. I'm prolly gonna go sleep now. G'night folks.

So, music babblings. I was gonna do the "Movie soundtrack meme" but it turned out quite lame. SO you get some percentages instead.

I have, at this moment in time, 2980 songs. Which is a good deal of music --9.11 Gigs, or about 6 and 2/3 days.

Of this music selection:

03.22% is Weird Al (96/2980)
04.97% is random, generally Indie, music that Tho has sent me (148/2980)
24.23% is showtunes (722/2980)
03.42% is TMBG (102/2980)
01.84% is related to RHPS (55/2980)
01.51% turns up when I enter the letter "Q" into the searchbox (45/2980)
07.45% is the H2G2 related (radioplays, movie soundtrack, and Marvin songs.) (222/2980)
01.64% is Schoolhouse Rock (49/2980)
03.46% is some sort of Christmasish Music (103/2980)
08.52% has never been played (254/2980)
00.70% has been played more then 100 times. (21/2980)
00.17% has been played more then 200 times. (5/2980)

Any other percentages you'd like to see?

...You know what this reminds me of? My LONG SINCE DEFUNCT project where I was assigning songs to peoples elljays for...some reason. I think it was so I could be "I'm bored. Who's elljay am I gonna read the whole of today?"

At any rate...that activity crashed messily. Haven't touched it at least half a year, maybe more -I've still got Tho unlisted, for crissakes, and he's CERTAINLY rectified that particular musical problem. (((Hum, "Only Anarchists are Pretty" or "Up Against It"? Oh, questions...)))

...also, why is Ms Hecabus listed with Mrs Robinson? I'ma gonna assume she was quoting from it at one point...or...something. Yeeeeeeah. Like I said, WOEfully out of date.

...I'm out. See ya kids later.
