Today's New York adventure was also very High Quality New York!

Today was shopping day, which means we hauled butt to Union Sq and hit up the Strand, Forbidden Planet, and Books of Wonder. I did not buy the uncorrected galley proof of Howl's Moving Castle (I didn't even ask how much it was). I also did not buy the $500 25th anniversary edition Where The Wild Things Are signed and doodled by Maurice Sendak. I *definitely* did not buy the $22,500 (yes, five digits) first edition signed and doodled one.

I did buy a copy of the Audubon field guide to Insects and Spiders, mostly because there were several copies on the shelves of the Strand for $25 bucks, and then one suspiciously identical copy that was marked at $11.50. I have not yet figured out why it was ten bucks cheaper, but I assume it's for a parallel dimension's worth of bugs, and they will all be subtlly...off.

Since we were in the area, we went to the Museum of Sex as well! That was pretty cool, although a little smaller than I was hoping. They did have a very cool punk rock exhibit going on! And there was a section on early stag films, which I was hoping would dovetail nicely with my recent obsession with The Rialto Report (site not remotely safe for work, details in footnotes1). It actually largely predated the stuff I've been focused on, which meant I got to watch snippets of a whole bunch of super early loops --black and white silent films and every bit as filthy as we like to see today!

The effect was ruined some by some of the other patrons, who were giggling wildly and uncomfortably any time anything happened, like...a penis. You are at the Sex Museum. There is sex. Kindly _get the fuck over yourself_ or at least go be utterly immature about it over there somewhere.

Also mom and I got to bounce around in a bounce house made of boobs. It was amazing. There are photos, but you can't see them because obviously2.

Post museum, we walked back to Times Square and picked up some tickets for The Play That Goes Wrong. Oh my poor sides. There's less _analysis_ to be done with this one than there is Hadestown. Suffice to say, the title is utterly accurate. I kinda want to see a "proper" staging of the Murder At Whatever Manor now, ideally done as overwroughtly as the actors would hope.

We waited outside the stage door, and probably made the casts day, as there was no one else except a couple of friends of a couple of the stars. Friendly chatting and signed playbills all around!

Now we are home again, and I am procrastinating completing my grades which are due in about ten hours. I'm sure I'll find the time to do them somehow!

1: The Rialto Report is a highly academic podcast and website that collects interviews and primary source documents for the golden age of pornography, with a special focus on late 70s/early 80s NYC. It is so cool!! There is something beautiful and powerful and tragic and painful about all these stories of people living and fucking in that sweet moment after the pill but before AIDS. About half the interviews end with pictures of smiling 70 year olds, laughing somewhere far away. About half the interviews end with a drug overdose thirty years ago. It is such a _fascinating_ archive.

And yeah, it is _deeply_ not safe for work. Nothing about it is safe for work. There are full scans of smutty magazines from the eighties with big ol' tiddy spreads, and headshots of porn stars, and film stills, and backstage shots from strip clubs. It's academically awesome, it also can be some genuinely titillating stuff.

2: "Were you not just being enlightened and holier-than-thou about how well you can handle the existence of sex?" Yeah, but there's the whole point, and some people who are immature and can't handle it are my bosses and the parents of my students.

Today was the wandering around day --everyone either wound up walking the freedom trail, doing some sort of community service, or (what I chose) having a "Day of the Arts" which meant we went to a couple of spifty museums.

Also, the pinnicle of spiftyness today is that my student ID can get me into the Museum of Fine Arts for free. Score!

The first museum, the Isabella Stewart Gardner Musuem, was basically this huge old house filled with art. Apparently this eccentric and obscenely rich woman bought all this art and filled her house with it, and then, in her will, made a provision that none of the works she had installed could be replaced. I just wish I had that much money to decorate with --it almost looked like something out of the sims!

We didn't get a lot of time to poke around the MFA, but as it costs only $2.40 for the subway fare (I have a CharlieCard now!) I'll probably go back. The absolute coolest thing I found was this scrolling LED installation, that scrolled different messages from this womans work. She apparently wrote these books that were collections of slogans or something, and the LED thing ran a sixty minute loop of these messages. I walked away from it feeling particularily shaken --It all felt very much like I was recieving subliminal messages. Sometime when I've got a spare couple of hours, I may go back and watch the whole loop.

I rode home with the twins, Madeline, and newfriend Jess. We skipped the Harvard Square stop, where everyone was getting off, so that we could go down to Porter Square and poke around Porter Exchange some more. We wandered into this awesome Japanese grocery store (Which sells pocky, which I'm sure will make SOMEONE on my friendslist happy) and attempted to get lost in the basement.

We meandered home, slinking in and out of a Hollywood Video and History, which is a vintage clothes store. History has the GREATEST pair of Union Jack pumps in the window --of course, they cost something like $180. *sigh*

And, I mean, I don't like shoes. But they're really cute.

I left them reading books in there so I could go get my final transcript and bring it back to Porter Exchange. I stopped to slack on Seren a bit, and caught Magus being bored. Being as he promsed me ice cream, the two of us agreed to meet up at Porter Exchange and wander around Cambridge some.

blabla, boring transcript stuff, met up with Magus, who has a far superior photojournalists vest (Although his doesn't have romantic backstory, I suspect) and the two of us wandered around Mass ave and Porter/Davies Square, and got ice cream at this little store in Davies Square that I have totally forgotten the name of. >.<

Eventually, we wandered back to his place so I could meet his housemates, which was nice and only a little bit "...so...yeeeeeeah." The three of them walked me back to Porter Square station and ran off on the T to go to some dinner party, and I wandered my way home. (Dun worry --it was still light out. I totally wasn't raped.)

Then I came home and slacked online for something like an hour and a half now. Yepyep.

Tomorrows grand schemes involve not having to go to any classes, meeting Jarne around twoish (So if I get kidnapped, Raped, and Murdered, you'll know why. Because, to quote him :
"Me.
The short, wimpy rapist.
Who rapes people.
In bookstores in the middle of the day.
That would be impressive, actually."

(Yay for choosing big full bookstores to meet internet people in.)

Around sixish, I'm going to abandon him (if we haven't parted ways sooner) and meet up with the Bawston Dave and Diane for dinners.

And then I will go sleep more and have classes the next day.

I'm out

Hokay, so where did I leave off? The MS150? Yeah, I think so.

Anyways. I spent the weekend being a pirate and going "YARR!" a lot. Which was awesomely fun, though physically draining. Pretty much spent 15 solid hours in my bodice, which is...fun, but bad for me. I think I'm starting to outgrow it --I've been having more trouble with breathing and with wearing it for long periods of time, which sucks.

But yeah. The rest stop was way fun. All the bike riders absolutely loved us, and loved the various goodies we had out for them, especially the chocolate and sweadish fish. (MmmmmM!) And I will take just about any excuse to dress up like a pirate, especially if there're people to appreciate it around.

Sunday, I forwent the bodice and wore my t-shirt corset instead. Sometime soon, I will post pics, because that is an awesomely fun and easy craft.

After cheering on the people leaving for the Sunday riding, we hopped back into the car and drove all the way back from Salsbury (I slept most of the way) to home, to rush over to Illchester in order to get trained for day camp. I wound up spending copious amounts of time raking leaves and helping to better establish the archery section as awesome. PLUS, ohemgee, I'ma going to be working Archery with Blue! *squee!* I love that kid, she's really great.

(Don't be mentioning the fact that I dumped her. I can love people I break up with. :P)

AND, she gave me back my comics, so that was excellent.

Anywho, after setup and dinner and stuff, Wolf wound up getting a tricycle out of her truck that was built for a five year old or something. Of course, we all took turns riding it around the parking lots. Which ruled.

PLUS, Blue has a top hat! I just need to convince her to let me borrow it for a...project. *laughs evilly*

Annnnnnd yeah. That was the weekend. Ohyeah, and did I mention that I was the one who did the entire three hour drive to Salsbury? Yes, I do rule something fierce. We were caravaning with Jason and Korallean (sp?) and it was way fun, even if Galileo(Mum's van) isn't quite the dream to drive that Beast is.

Annnnnyways, that was this weekend. Today was the beginning of my Senior Week!

Now, normal people spend senior week getting drunk on the beach. Since me and Becky aren't especially into beaches full of drunk people, and have absolutely zero interest in getting drunk ourselves, we had to find other entertainment.

So we packed ourselves off to Washington DC to go visit museums (They're free!) and generally hang out. And it was AWESOME! Today we hit up the Air and Space Museum, the bits of the American History Museum that are in the Air and Space Museum, and the Natural History Museum. Which means that...

I GOT TO SEE KERMIT! *SQUEE!*

And dinosaur bones, and aeroplanes, and Appollo 11, and The Spirit of St. Louis, and loads of pretty shiny things, and a Stradivarius(sp?), and a scale model of the planets, and a giant red tomato-like spacecraft THING!

Soyeah. Smithsonian FTW. Pictures will get tossed up for everything, later. Just keep an eye on my flickr account, I suppose.

Annnnnnd I'm out. Tomorrow is a girl scout meeting, and then probably the Holocaust Museum. (Me and Becky are just a bucket of sunshine, aren't we?) Wednesday is hanging out at Becky's house and watching awesome movies (She has never seen Blues Brothers -for shame!) and then a job interview to see if I can become a TargetBitch. Thursday is more chillaxing with Becky and watching things.

And then I have a break, and will be able to relax and have time to myself.

*falls over laughing.* Yeah. Right.

Anyways, I ought to be cleaning my room, but I'm probably going to be hanging out here for a while instead. Take care of yourselves!

The people-riffic meme!

Rules are:
First, write down the names of twenty people you know. Then read and answer the questions.

You can't look at the questions (or click on the cut) until you write down the twenty names you're going to use.

That sounds fun...and perfectly acceptable for my first post in who knows how Godly long.

I know. I admit it. I'm weak. LJ has called to me, and I must answer it. I'm back.

Right right right. On with the names!

Don't read this until you have YOUR list ready!! )

Alright, back to general life.

I've only got internet on teh weekends. But thats ok.

Still not going to touch the webcomics. Not yet. Not until I have full, legal acess to Dmitri again.

*sigh* I miss 'em.

Other stuff:

*I went garage saleing yesterday. I picked up a pair of clunky black leather boots, a translucent plastic chair (I'm going to paint it) a beanie-baby penguin (for a dollar...remember when you couldn't find beanie babys for less then 6 or 7 a pop?) which I promptly named Ms. Hecubus, a purse, and a camera bag. It ruled.

*I also went to the aquarium yesterday with Zily (Lily and Zoe), and a couple of friends of theres, David and Leah. It was very cool, especially the skates, and the fish I befriended. He was a very cool fish, all neon-striped and whatnot. We had a long conversation, turns out he's a total theatre boy, and a bit of a drama-queen. He said he was also quite gay, which made me smile.

It was Jonny!!!!! in fish form. :D

*Me and Veronica went for a walk today, with Rex. It rocked.

*Played Halo with Shan and Mike Royster and Veronica. also fun, although, like usual, I got my butt kicked.

*This morning I finally caught up and saw EpIII. I liked it, although I found Anikin INCREDIBLY whiny. CHEER UP! I don't see what all those girls see in him. :p

*I think thats all...ego-boost writing will commence shortly.
