It's a lovely Saturday night! I could be doing grading, but _fuck that_ I'ma listen to music and sort music instead! Let's see if we can get another good chunk of folders down, ya?

[insert the past links here --part 1, part 2, part 3, part 4, part 5, part 6, part 7, part 8

  • I don't have any specific goals to listen to, so we're doing the "just toss everything I've starred so far on in, and hit shuffle. This means it'll be mostly Kate Nyx, maybe a bit of Come From Away, some random other things (right now is Sweet but Psycho). I'll let you know if I have thoughts on the stuff I'm listening to!

  • I am glad that I have an Oasis song, given how much my heart needs the song Oasis. (this is the unfortunate part where I say "by Amanda Palmer" because sometimes shitty people make great art. I don't know what to do about this fact. I could probably give up everything else she's ever made, but this song really was the "oh fuck, how do I cope with being a rape survivor? TERMINAL OPTIMISM THAT'S HOW" and damn if I don't owe it a pretty serious boon still.)

  • Kinda genuinely shocked to have only one track from "Orchestra" (it's from my very scattered OBC of The Producers).

  • Also kinda shocked to only have six subfolders in Original Broadway Cast.

  • Hmmmm, and apparently I have two copies of the Rent OBC disc 1? That's interesting. I wonder if one of them is the slightly janky one with skips in La Vie Boheme B. This seems like the sort of thing I should probably figure out. (okay yeah, I checked, and the version I already had was the un-janked one. Good job, self!

  • Oh. I am reassured by looking ahead and seeing that now there is also "Original Broadway Cast Recording", "Original Cast" "Original Cast Symphonic Recording" "Original Cast Recording" "Original Roxy Cast" (I know that one without opening it!), and "Original Off-Broadway Cast". So this wasn't a "only six subfolders" this was a "this is why I'm doing this project".

  • .............sigh. Cats disc 1 is in OBC Recording. Cats disc 2 is in Original Cast. Great. Good job. Well done Gracenote :P

  • WHOOPS there we go, found the PROPER Scarlet Pimpernel recording! Gonna dump just the *entirety* of that into the shuffle-queue because YES PLEASE!

  • Oh hey, here's the first track of the 10 Things soundtrack. It's nice to get that in the folder with the other thirteen tracks. :P

  • I have one track by Owl City, and it's not Fireflies, and I am forced to wonder if they were one of the iTunes discovery downloads at some point?

  • Now feels like the right time to rename it. I am a more sophisticated internet user than I was in the waybackwhen. That's right. It's called Dragostea Din Tei!

  • ......wait. Patrick Stewart as in "make it so"? Recited the prologue and closing to The Nightmare Before Christmas?! Did you know this? Because I don't think I knew this!

(okay, a quick investigation suggests that it's only on the album, it was cut for the movie version. I feel slightly less crazy for not knowing this.)

  • Huh. I know nothing about Patty Larkin, but I apparently have two of her tracks...both from curated mix tapes! That's kinda neat, maybe I should check her other stuff out sometime!

  • Who is Paul Brandt? Why do I have an entire album of his without knowing who he is? Is this the one Tailsteak sent me that one time? (That seems likely actually, given he is apparently a Canadian musician)

  • Ah! Ah ah ah! I found "Is That All There Is?" which if you have been the same kind of weird about Sleep No More as I am, you will understand why I am required to own. And I have learned apparently I have two more Peggy Lee tracks, so that's neat! Good for her.

  • I have found track 1 from the Billboard Top 100 Singles From 1960! I already had track 100 --I have a total of 83 tracks, which feels about right for being in the "p's".

  • This "Give The People What They Want" mixtape appears to be protest songs and I'm kinda here for it

  • I have just copied my very first folder that had enough files that the computer actually had to think a second. 179 tracks, across 20 folders, within "Pet Shop Boys". Why do I have so much PSB? I have no fucking idea, but I *strongly* suspect it's Tho's fault.

  • I'm sorry past!Kat, but it is definitely spelled "P!nk", no "i" needed, and I should _definitely_ get more of her stuff _especially_ Beautiful Trauma fuckdamn. Also, where the hell do you suppose my copy of "Try" is, 'cause I know I bought that one from iTunes at some point and it should be like...here?

Ah! The rest is under P!nk, I just totally missed it when I was skimming earlier. Everything is fine. (and now I have Raise Your Glass as well fuck yessssss. I still need to buy Beautiful Trauma though. Where do we buy music these days? I mean, besides Bandcamp obvs)

  • It's rare I recognize the names of mashup artists, but I do see the ones for tracks I play a _lot_ even if I can't put them together. So I was pleased to go "who was pomDeter again"? and have the answer "the guy who did "Call Me A Hole", that's who!"

I'm gonna keep going, but it's going to become its own post, since the rules are I go until I get bored, fall asleep, or find 20 Remarks (and I just made the latter). With PomDeter finished, I have 510 folders remaining and 12,967 total tracks in QuodLibet! Much denser batch of music, this one.

Have you heard Patrick Stewart's one man version of A Christmas Carol? I got to see it in person on Broadway and it was even better than I thought it would be, but even the audio-only version is damn good. I'm still sad I missed seeing him and Ian McKellen in Waiting for Godot.

I've only got a couple of tracks from Patty Larkin per se, but I have several albums from the quartet Four Bitchin' Babes -- her, Christine Lavin, Megon McDonaugh, and Silly Fingerett -- which are glorious fun. You might enjoy their stuff.
