A SIXTH REMARK ON MUSIC
Feb. 3rd, 2025 08:47 pm![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
I am going through a staggering number of folders of music to try and get it better sorted in ways that make sense to me. part 1, part 2, part 3, part 4, part 5
I would do more, but I really ought to try and get some grading done or whatever. Ugh. Significantly less fun of a project, but also part of the job is to try real hard to not burn myself out or exhaust myself on it.
(That being said, everything else in the world right now is burning me out *way* worse, so maybe this is actually a good choice of how to spend my evening. It certainly does mean I listen to music, at least! Having finished Kate Nyx, we've moved on to listening to Katzenjammer. It's good!)

- I am mad every time I find an itunes song that I *can't* play. There are plenty I can! They go zhooping in no problem! And then there's shit that I actually bought on purpose and want to listen to and I can't and I'm gonna have to learn soon how to strip out the DRM and make it fuckin' listenable again *grumble grumble stupid m4p files*
(Yes, if you'd like to solve this for me that would be acceptable. It does, at a very rough glance, appear to only be affecting .m4p files. I have other things from itunes, but those appear to be .m4as or other stuff.) - I found the filk that jere7my wrote for me, about one of my favourite movies, set to one of my favourite songs. It's _so_ good y'all. This is the second-best birthday present I've ever been given in my life (I'm sorry friend, but the time Melisande got me an hour with a backhoe is nigh-impossible to beat)
- Whoops, I accidentally did like...ten the other day and now I am going to slightly struggle to figure out exactly where I am. Irritating.
- Did I mention I did at least figure out that I *can* just search .m4p files in my finder? That's very convenient, for whenever I eventually solve this.
- I have two songs from Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, and one is an overplayed banger and one is just a banger, so maybe I should GET THE REST OF THIS ALBUM SOMETIME.
- Oh mannnnn I only have two tracks off the John Denver and the Muppets Christmas Album? This is a huge problem and I will definitely have to fix it next time I'm in my parents house.
- John Massari is not realistically an "internet geek darling" but he is _idologically_ an internet geek darling. He *ought* to be a darling of the internet!
- I am up to _four_ kareoke albums, which I have decided to not put in my regular music library. Three of them are musicals, because...look because I am me and we're all just gonna live with that, okay? (Scarlet Pimpernel, Rocky Horror, Rent).
- ........I am pretty sure this track in a folder labeled with my first and last name is inexplicably from some masquerade at some balticon? there's some weird shit in here. Glad to have whoever's random sound cue.
- (To be clear, I found a folder labeled with my first and last name and went "NNNNNNNNN" so a random sound cue is by far the best possible thing to find. There are recordings of me singing random bits of songs that I made up. Probably I will never let you hear them, especially if they're more'n a few years old, because it turns out that "my voice when high" is on the very very short list of dysphoria triggers.
Yes kiddo, this is a reminder that you should re-record a cleaner version of The Octopus Provides Illumination, and also take another hack at the lyrics, now that it's been six months.) - I am always pleased when I recognize an artist's name, and then find that the very few tracks I have do *not* include the number one hit of said artist. Three Kate Bush, songs, none of which are Running Up The Hill! (because someone's gonna ask, they're all off Harena's poingybouncy CD of DOOM: Ran Tan Waltz, There Goes a Tenner, and Suspended in Gaffa)
- Third deadname! I wonder if my high school notme knows that anyone even downloaded his little electronica demo? Also I am pleased every time I remember that the person everyone mistook me for in high school is also A Trans. Maybe y'all were on to something?
- I'm not sure Katzenjammer is Internet Geek Darlings, but I'm also _really_ not sure where they go in general?
- Kris Staub wrote and recorded a theme song for Something*Positive called "Down the Block". So. That's a real thing that exists and that I own. Archivist is very gremliny and happy about horrible bullshit like this.
- This track is called "Happy Ice Cream Birthday" and it is in fact recorded for me speciifcally from a friend. Unlike listening to my own voice, I am always thrilled to listen to my friends voices :3
- Leaving off having done L7 --I have 829 folders to go, which is _so close_ to halfway done. I am genuinely proud of me for keeping with the project this far!

on 2025-02-04 04:53 am (UTC)If you have access to a CD writer, one workaround I've seen in the past is to burn the m4p files to disc (which will require using iTunes, unfortunately) and then ripping the disc(s). It's ridiculous but it works.
