For the last two(?) years I've taught dancing at a frou-frou Burns Night hosted by a fancy cafe out in Concord. I got contacted a couple years ago by the guy who MCs, assuming that ~naturally~ I was willing to help do the online version, and while I grumbled a little internally about being roped into an added responsibility, I do ultimately enjoy the thing and was tentatively willing to help out as long as expectations were very clear.

Expectations were made clear, I managed to record all my videos yesterday (later than I said, but before I got a nagging email being all "where they at?" and the dude sent out the final video today. I haven't watched the whole thing, but my 20 minute dance set is actually making me really happy. I mean, it's a single person ceilidh dancing by themself in their bedroom to pipe music over YouTube, which is...inherently sad, but I actually feel like my instruction was relatively clear and not too complex.

((I haven't arranged compensation with the restaurant yet, which I should probably do, but executive functioning is hard, but I'm thinking I'll see if I can just forego monetary comp in exchange for being able to post the videos other places --with my piper's permission, of course! If that happens, I'll post it somewhere for y'all if you wanna watch me be sad but also happy alone in my bedroom.))

(((There's a totally separate post to be made about gender and taking the ~easy~ route and being fake and I'm...just too tired for any of it right now. I dressed in my whites because they were easier to find than all the pieces of kilt-sporran-shirt-hose-flashes-vest-princecharlie. There are parts of the lesson that are so *very* teacher-voice and it's not that my teacher-voice is fake per se, but it's also a lot closer to customer-service-voice in some ways. I dunno, I still like the overall thing. It's...it's earnest, which is interesting, that it can feel both earnest and a little fake at the same time. Maybe I am just too cynical overall.

Also yes, I wore the marshmallow dress of my own free will which shows just how fucking desperate I am to be back in Scots gear, but to be fair, I didn't wear any of the poofy under-layers and also an individual cannot have a gender in contrast to their surroundings and that weirdly helps.)))

Years (decades?) ago, Cally and others used to have tape night square dances, the tape in question being a cassette tape, with calls recorded in the caller'a bathroom. He couldn't see dancers, the dancers had no caller in the room to help them, but with enough skill on both sides, it worked out. In this free-association, you are the caller in the bathroom, but really you're more like the many dance teachers online now.
