There's a twitter post that's all "Can you describe your favorite movie as boring as possible?" and I've been having a *lot* of fun with it! It's a difficult balance to write a description that is pretty boring, but still gives enough information to definitely identify the movie. For instance, my friend Lauren wrote about this movie:
This was excellently boring, but unfortunately I needed a hint to do full identification --to wit, she added "A different kid finds said belongings but is bad at taking care of them".
Anyways, I've written several, some of which are much better than others. Take a gander and give your best guess! I've numbered them for ease of guessing in the comments (but you might want to make the text very small or something --does DW have spoiler tags?-- or at least not look at the comments until you're ready to make your own guess. Also I'd be happy to guess your movies, but I am worse at movies than you are.
Warning, links below go to the direct twitter posts, some of which have answers posted as replies, so spoilers with that, too.

01) A long road trip. Then they turn around and drive back.
1) A teenage girl fights with her classmates, father, and headmaster during Christmas.(link)
2) A teenage girl learns to fit in at her new boarding school. (link) (This is probably my worst example --it's boring, but not specific enough!)
3) A young man has to fly to another state to give testimony about a mob case. link2
4) We follow a young woman's first year at law school. link
5) A young man leaves his adoptive family to move to San Francisco, then moves back to his home. link (This one's also pretty bad, and I'd love to see someone do a better version of it)
6) A criminal wanders around New York City looking for the tape casette that will get him a plea deal. link
7) A newly engaged couple have their car breakdown in a rainstorm and check with the neighbors to see if they can use a phone. link
8) Nine friends spend all night trying to get home to Coney Island after a community meeting. link
9) Young man raises money to buy a local tv station from his uncle. link
10) A virgin can't drive. (No link because I wrote this just for you here on DW, and it's a cheap shot, but it made me laugh when I thought of it.) (Wait, nvm, link my cleverness must be shared with the twits)
11) A dad brings his daughter a stuffed bunny after a stressful trip with his soon-to-be ex-colleagues. link

1: Okay, technically I thought of this in my brain, then went to write it and found that Cliff Pervocracy was the first comment I saw on the thread with almost word-for-word the same description. In talking with Ezri, we decided that this movie is the absolute best choice, because the ratio between "favourite movie" and "describe it boring" is so well weighted.
2: I am SO PROUD of this one because I promise you, no one remembers that this is, in fact, the plot of this movie.
A family moves to a new house, the kid is bad at keeping track of his belongings though

on 2020-07-04 11:09 am (UTC)0) Isn't this the plot of like every road trip movie? The only one I can think of right now is _Rain Man_.
1) Maybe _Clueless_?
2) All I can think of is _The Craft_, but that wasn't a boarding school.
5) I thought this might be _Garden State_, but that family is at no point described as adoptive, so never mind.
7) Guessing this is _Rocky Horror Picture Show_, which I haven't seen but have heard described.
I have absolutely nothing on the others.

on 2020-07-04 06:07 pm (UTC)0 is indeed every road trip movie ever, but it actually is the closest to my "favourite" movie, and describing it as I did is...extremely misleading to all the parts that make it my favourite movie. (It would be more accurate to call it a car chase in one direction, followed by another car chase, but then that starts to get exciting.)
Your guess for 1 is the answer for a different number.
I've never actually seen your guesses for 0 or 5, I now desperately want a crossover between your 2 and my 2.

on 2020-07-04 02:45 pm (UTC)But a few that have been old joys for a long time might be:
1. Six friends search together for a cure for their dying mentor.
2. Five brothers attempt to regain the inheritance one of them gambled away.
3. A man tries to recover from the death of his brother and a woman tries to recover from the death of her parents amidst widespread governmental wishful thinking about the results of global warming.
#2 is *not* well known.
