So like I mentioned in passing yesterday, I've been way more serious about listening to music lately, and that is _such a good thing for me_.

I have a gabzillion songs in my library (approximately) so you'd think I'd actually be good at listening to music, but I assure you that is often not the case. It's...just...routinely forgetting that I can add music to whatever other fuckery I'm up to on the computer? And also routinely forgetting that my brain actually works _distinctly_ better if it's had a lot of music in it recently.

Some of the problem is that I don't bring my lappy to school usually, so at work tends to just use whatever YouTube gives me, which is _kinda_ like being serious about listening to music but also really not. Like, my regular library on shuffle has a similar vibe of not knowing what I'ma get, but the algorithm makes certain choices that I don't ever actually support.

Anyways. Today I listened to all of Starlight Express! Because trains! I dunno, because one song popped up and I went all "I will listen to all of this now", which is somehow how musicals work for me. I also got to listen to the crazy-songs of Next to Normal because I was...kinda deep into some complicated feels? Delightfully, I was actually able to crazy-listen to it, because the sort of feels/crazy I was having was *not* the sort of crazy that would be bad-exacerbated by N2N.

This is not always the case, which is a little unsettling. So little of my music has the potential to make my brain _worse_. Not just "I don't feel like listening to this" but "ah, this is making things in here worse". Honestly, pretty much just N2N and That One Song What Still Belongs To My Rapist Ex. (Unwell, by Matchbox 20, which is a shame as it's a pretty good crazy song).

The other fun music thing has been having a _new set of music_ on my phone to listen to while I'm biking five miles. To elaborate, I basically hadn't updated the tunes on Ida for like...probably a couple years *before* my mac died in Sep2019 and I lost the ability to update her entirely. So I dumped a bunch of artists onto Jannykeel and while there's some overlap, the bulk of the tunes are ~different~ than I've been biking to for the past four years.

It does mean I have a new fun game called "how fast can I ID the boy-artist?" (Girl artists are no problem --I know both Vienna and s00j's voices forwards and backwards so even the tracks I don't know well are immediately pinned, and if it's neither of those, it must be Kate Nyx). If it's a mashup it's from one of NeilCic's mouth albums, if it has horns it's W/IFS, if neither of those it's probably Tally Hall?

Anyways, I am pleased to be enmeshed in songs again, and maybe my next step should be to collate my CD collection with my mp3 collection and make a giant stack of things to import sometime soon.

What've you been listening to lately?

The dreamscape was extremely thorough and complex and involved aspects of planning a jailbreak and helping mom get ready to play Santa Claus (?) at WorldCon (?) and other interesting things, but I also ate a very good fruit.

In dream it had a name but that vanished immediately. The outside was visually similar to an eggplant --a little slimmer and smaller, but that same rich purple colour and slightly waxy skin texture. The inside reminded me very much of a rambutan --juicy and very wet and just barely holding onto solidity-- but it was also dark in colour, almost black (made translucent from the water content).

I cut it in half to eat, which meant I could peel the outside away with my nails. This got quite a lot of juice onto my hands, but made the rest available. I think I ate about two thirds and shared the last third with mom --I didn't really want to, it tasted amazing, but it was technically a gift to her from a friend that lived in...the tropics? Non-specific, in that way dreams are.

It was a neat fruit. I'm glad I got to try it, and if you never see me again because I've been taken by the goblins, you now know what's up.
