Nov. 2nd, 2021 01:02 amI conked right the fuck out at like, maybe nine? And I am slightly irritated, because I can't actually tell if that's a ~scary booster shot side effect!~ or if that's just like...you worked today and also forgot your meds, so here, let's run out of energy about now and sleep for three hours. I *think* I feel groggier right now than I normally do when I wake up, and definitely my shoulder hurts a bit where I got the shot but like...I suspect tomorrow is the real test.
It's been made into a "work from anywhere" day at school, which is real interesting to me. I'm not ungrateful --the whole point of doing most of a year over zoom was to prove that we could regularly work over zoom-- but I'd love to know what exactly caused that, because the line of cause and effect looks to me like it explicitly includes the part where there aren't enough classrooms for every teacher to do zoom conferences from their own space.
...And how are we planning to solve this problem when we're not doing zoom conferences, and we're asking parents to come in? Are we gonna timeshare classrooms? Have teachers waiting in the hallway with the parents to take turns? Whatever. This is ultimately an admin problem and doesn't need to be solved by me. I'm just gonna take the W and do conferences from my pyjamas. Note to self: make the bed in the background.
Besides getting my arm stabbed full of juice, today was weird-but-good. The front half of the day was pretty rough (despite having, for maybe the first time all year, an Algebra class where every single student showed up!) and included me getting to call the principal out for a microaggression (privately, over email) and an unplanned fire alarm during lunchtime that made the whole day's schedule get hinked up.
The fire alarm was a huge _nuisance_ but at least I don't teach that block...unlike my mentee who pointed out that this is the fourth disruption to this one particular class since we had a similar fire alarm two weeks ago. Oh, and it's a class that's losing a day this week due to election day being off, so it's cool that he doesn't actually want his two Calculus classes in sync. (<- sarcasm, I am a _strong_ advocate for keeping your week-by-week schedules as closely aligned as possible, and I am instilling that virtue in Clayton as well).
Anyways, I have recently determined that the usual correct thing for me to do is work until 6pm each day, and then I hover at "just a little bit behind" instead of "desperately and painfully behind". Yayyyyy for a job that simply can't be done in less than fifty hours a week! Excuse me while I teach your child, but first I must...
I didn't actually achieve this today, because of aforementioned forgetting meds. But it's close to the end of the quarter, and I definitely have a full grading folder, but it's like...a reasonably finite amount of stuff to grade! I could theoretically get it all done this week! That would be cool, wouldn't it?
Hope your jobs and lives are settling into something you enjoy. <3
