Today was thrift store day!!!
mek and Lee and I went to two very good thrift stores together, where we all got _a huge amount of stuff_. For reference, both of them were goodwills having a 50% off everything sale. SO YEAH.
My haul (with the understanding that I do not have a *ton* of luggage space for bringing stuff home, so I was trying REALLY HARD to make saving throws and not grab just everything cute and cheap I could find):
*Big floppy orange and yellow sun hat, will be very good for Pinewoods and general summery times.
*Very sophisticated leaf patterned scarf, in pretty shades of green.
*Huge orange and white scarf, also sorta leafy/viney patterned. Possibly technically a sarong?
*Bright yellow cargo capris (I am generally in the market for "pants" including "short pants" since I never feel like I own quite enough. This is probably related to the fact that I am in fact the kind of person who would happily wear the same pair of blue jeans for three weeks straight, and will only stop out of a vague realization that maybe other people will think that's gross.)
*Utterly ridiculous faux-fur vest that looks all feathery and makes me feel like I ought to be wearing warbonnets at coachella or otherwise being an appropriative basic white girl. I love it _so much_ and wish I still went to burns on the regular. Being one hundred percent polyester, it's also reasonably warm (I wore it all afternoon over my cute dress while we flopped around the house). If not for music festival cosplay, I'd really like to wear it at some sci fi con with a bunch of leather scraps or other mad max bullshit.
*A copy of Tamora Pierce's "Squire" which is the first Tammy book I've ever owned (I _know_) and is seriously the book of hers I've read the most and it's criminal I haven't just bought it yet. Eventually I will buy the rest of the everything.
*A CD of the movie-cast version of Little Shop
*A mezmerizing marble mushroom that is very nice to touch and hold and will either wind up on my altar or in my stimtoy box. Or both.
*And an _utterly ridiculous_ pair of shoes. Yinz know how I'm a sucker for a good high heel, despite the fact that wearing them at my day job would be stupid and at my night hobbies suicidal1? Good. Anyways, they're bright teal (but a version that didn't look horrific with my green socks and looked positively great with my metallic copper leggings) and they've got about an inch of platform and another three or so of heel and they're velvety and oh yeah, the entire back half and heel of the shoe is covered in spiky studs.
Lee described them as "the cool rock mom from a movie" shoes and I am very almost offended. They're amazing and I can't wait to wear them to absolutely nothing ever2,.
Not sure what tomorrow's adventures will bring, besides laundry and TMC meeting. California is nice and I am very happy here.

MOOP!
1: Like, I probably *can* bellring in heels, as long as they're the relatively stable kind, because planting your feet isn't actually the worst thing ever. I haven't been stupid enough to try yet, but it will happen eventually and it won't actually be a disaster unless I am unlucky in ways that would probably be disasterous regardless of my footwear. And I can square dance in heels --I've proven that on multiple occasions3 (although I typically kick them off for the singer). But trying to do pas de basque in six inch stillettos? Hahhaha no. No. Nooooo. No, I will die.
2: Counting these I now own -and this is me attempting to remember from 3k miles away so the number may be higher- at least nine pairs of Fucking Ridiculous high heels. But you know what? The collection makes me genuinely happy to have (on the rare occasion when I can pull them out especially!) and I've almost definitely paid less than $10 a pair. I have no regrets, except that I don't have more excuses.
3: Fun fact: I was being This Sort Of Doofus at a tech squares Saturday dance (the one where suddenly the class knows mainstream so lets celebrate with them by doing an all mainstream dance!) on one of the occasions when I'd come back to squares after a while away. It was like my second or third time back for that class, so I very vaguely recognized a couple of the class members as various sorts of "cute and fun to dance with", and was beginning to even learn the names of a few of them, like this one boy called Austin...
...look I'm not saying six inch safety orange high heels are the reason I got with my boy, but I'm also *not* not saying that. ;)

on 2020-02-19 09:21 pm (UTC)I don't actually tend towards stilettos, although a couple of my pairs are close. Chunky heels for the win!
