Five.

Packing lists or todo lists or a narrative of what I got up to last night. Whatever. It'll all be a little bit gloomy right now.

Because it's too hot, and too muggy, and I'm leaving. More centrally, I *have* to pack, which is not exactly going very well right now, and I have to study my Italian which...well...yeah,

So, I'm currently working on the computer room. My books, my papers. Mostly because right now, the clothes? Totally overwhelming. Plus, I figure if I get everything out of here that's staying in Boston, I can start using this space for things that are going back to Maryland. Divide my world into careful pieces, or something equally trite.

It's interesting. Some days I can snap right out of it. Listen to the right song, have that meta-realization of "dear *gods* you're being pathetically emo right now, aren't you?" Some days...some days, it's harder.

She smiles as if to say
Whatever you want, whatever you want, whatever you want
Is fine by me.

Oh Vienna. It's not at all a happy song, is that why it makes me smile? Or is it just another case of me messing up and listening to the music instead of the words.

Ah, fuck this. Foster's right, classic rock is where it's at. Now, where the hell'd I put that Journey1, 2...

MOOP!

1: Did anyone wince at me calling Journey classic rock? :D
2: Actually, forget Journey. What I really want more of is some friggin' AQUA! It's like the Spice Girls only awesomer.

...Yes, I have no taste in music. We've been over this. Zigazig ha!

Harena Atria! Journey is full of the *awesome*. It is music that is meant to be played as loudly as possible, with lots of singing along and just general ridiculousness.

You are just saying that to toy with me!

And actually, i could see how someone of this era would like it.. but at the time it was horribly bland and WAY over-played so i have an aversion to it because of that.

*turns up her Led Zepplin up even louder & belts out the lyrics to Kashmir*

"Classic rock" is all icky. That's what defines it as a genre for me - I can't use that term for Led Zeppelin or any other band I respect, classic and rockin' though they might be. If it's not generic, radio-friendly and arena-ready, it's not classic rock.

In retrospect, it's not really the best name, is it?

Heh, i guess i'd have to give in to that one.. for what i would call Rock and Classic is not the same thing as "classic rock"

Taking that under consideration, yes, Journey is certainly "classic rock". And Led Zepplin is rock that is Classic. ^_^

To be fair, it's been a long time since that rock'n'roll.

Journey totally counts as classic rock.

And also as *awesome*.

Not liking Journey is, like... evidence that one is not human.

This is probably true. Because Journey is wonderful, and I need more --I only have Any Way You Want It and Don't Stop Believin'

Damnit! I thought I got permanently erased that song from my memory. Now it's stuck in my head. Argh!

Love,
Herbert.

IF YOU WANNA BE MY LOVER
YOU GOTTA GET WITH MY FRIENDS
MAKE IT LAST FOREVER
FRIENDSHIP NEVER ENDS!

IF YOU WANNA BE MY LOVER
YOU HAVE GOT TO GIVE
TAKING IS TOO EASY
BUT THAT'S THE WAY IT I-ISS!

Yes, I can sing the whole song. Because it is awesome, and worthy of that.

Journey's music I can take or leave - I'm one of those children of the 80s whose tastes mostly ran to New Wave and post-punk - but they did have an awesomely terrible arcade game (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Journey_(video_game)) based on one of their albums.

Perhaps because it's a song about people reclaiming some measure of power? If in a rather fucked up way...

Aqua is the bombdiggity, yo! It's happy and bouncy to the point of being embarrasing, but hey, that's what headphones are for.

Come with me honey I'm your sweet sugar candy man
Run with the wind fly with me to bounty land!
Bite me I'm yours if you're hungry please understand
This is the end of the sweet sugar candy man!

And of course, all Aqua songs are metafores about sex. Undress me anywhere INDEED

oh, and... moving, I think, should be a social activity... It's good to have people there to help. (Preferably non-control-freak people. You want people who will work under you, it's YOUR stuff... some people are incompatible with this idea and will just take over and cause more stress, of course)

With this i quite agree.. when i moved across the country to Reno back in '92, all i had was my anal aspie sister and that was nightmarish. Well, i did have my undermotivated and aspie husband. ;P Sure wish i had you folks around then!

messing up and listening to the music instead of the words

That's not messing up, not at all. That's exactly how I listen to very nearly all music. Albums I've had for years, say, Incubus' Make Yourself, which is the one I've had the longest out of everything I have now, nearly 10 years? Couldn't possibly tell you what the lyrics are for most of the songs.

My view on the subject is that music and writing are two different and separate things that are often combined, but I listen to music for the music, not the writing. I suspect that that's why I'm drawn to (bands who have) singers with unusual voices, because it's the sound I'm after, not the lyrics.
