What are your secret musical shames?

I'd like to think that we've all got them. The music that you have on your ipod for whatever reason, and that you will listen to and enjoy and maybe even sing along --as long as you're in private. As soon as other people show up, you quickly switch, and hope they don't look too close at your "recently played" lists.

Well, the ones that immediately pop to mind are the bubblegum-blonde pop that I listened to in grade school. I've got a handful of Britany Spears, loads of the Backstreet Boys, and even a Spice Girls song or two. (Wannabe = <3 . It's just so *bouncy*)

....okay, what? Fer serious, I was poking around my library and decided to group stuff by genre, to find all my pop at once. "Sentinal" from Tubular Bells II is filed under the genre "Mwahahahaha!".

I. Shit. You. Not.

I'm just going to assume that I was screwing around at one point or another and...yeah. Yeeeeeeah. *raises an eyebrow at her itunes*

(Also, why the hell is "Chess" pop? Similarly, Big City Rock? Does the word "Rock" in the title not make it clear enough what sort of music this is?)

Soyeah. Spice Girls.

In truth, I think the majority of my musicshame comes from my massive *massive* non-education in regards to music. While I may now have a very rough idea of who Tori Amos is, I've still never heard any of her stuff, I still haven't gotten past the first six fits of the Hitchhikers radio series, nearly every artist I gained from adding the complete soundtracks of Geetar Hero I-III and Rockband were new to my library, and I'm still *constantly* going "yeah, who?" when people mention music.

That and I'm ashamed that I still don't have Apollo 13 or Here Come the ABC's by TMBG. Sorcy = badfan.

Soyeah. Most of my shame comes from being uneducated. I'm not nessecarily ashamed of having the Spice Girls which is primarily because I am a bouncy person and I like bouncy music, but I also maintain that I can think an artist is a complete slut and still not bad at what they do.

Mm, forgot about the sheer volume of DDR music I still have kicking around. 'k, maybe I'm a *little* ashamed of that.

Yeah. This entry was brought to you by "Sociology paper? What sociolo--OH HOLY FUCK IT'S TEN ALREADY OH FUCK FUCK FUCK!!"

ETA: Apologies to anyone who got the weird linklike version of this. I apparently don't know the difference between "lj-cut text=" and "a href=" :P

Until recently, Barry Manilow. I've been coming out of the closet on that though.
Lately, Lords of Acid. I still won't let most people see it in my iPod.

Multiple replies when I comment before reading a whole post....

I don't think you're missing anything by not knowing Tori's stuff. [livejournal.com profile] shadowcaptain will disagree with me. Too much angst, not enough bounce.

Angst is good sometimes. She prefaced "Death: The cost of high living", which I read when I was in rather an angsty mood, and rather needed a heavy dose of Gaimen's Death.

Hmmmmm...

I think my closest would be country, although I wouldn't say I'm ashamed of that, per se. I just realise that country is not everyone's cup of tea and tend to not bring it up because people have a tendency to go "Uhh... ew?" at me and call me a bad person if I start singing it.
