There are some people who I just want to curl up on the floor with and hold them until their world is better.

To quote myself, and IFWS, from long ago:

"You can't save the world, dear."
"No, but I can try."
"No, but you can dream."

My rose tinted glasses need polishing...

Tell me of a moment you've seen, where someone did something nice or sweet or loving...

A few weeks ago I saw a couple kissing in the rain. Granted it was 2 girls, but it was the kind of kiss that showed real love, not lust.

New Year's Eve, I was a total wreck, (emotionally, not drunk), and my boy drove from the other side of Houston at 4:30 in the morning to come see me and make it all better. Oh, and he brought a bottle of vodka that was PERFECT for making bloody maries, too.

The night *before* that, I came into my best friend's house to crash at 5:00 AM, started talking to a friend of mine, she said something that triggered...something? I was a mess. I mean it was the worst crying jag I think I've ever been on. I'm usually a pretty stable person. Not so, in this instance. So, my best friend wakes up because of all my carrying on, and without even missing a beat she gets out of bed, calms me down a little, and layed there cuddling with me on the couch with my head in her lap until well after sunrise. Oh, and she called in sick to work so she wouldn't have to leave me, either.

My life may suck occasionally, but I've got the best goddam friends in the 'verse.

The other day, a friend of mine came into school absolutely bawling and before I can even move, my boy is there comforting her, hugging her, wiping away her tears and tell her it's alright.

...The most significant thing about this is that the girl absolutely hates James, because she thinks he "took any chance she might have had with me." And James, who knew this, didn't even blink about comforting her.

Back when I was about thirteen and horribly depressed, I met this girl named Emily. While I thought I was a fat, smelly and ugly little creature, she thought I was a nice boy. Whenever I'd see her, she'd give me a hug. Each and every time. She showed me a little bit of kindness that she really had no obligation to show me; she did it because she thought I was worth it. Emily gets nearly one hundred percent of the credit for giving me the motivation to get out of my depression.

helping various friends through the various emotional train wrecks they have had. the upside is that it allows everything to fall into perspective in the "you think you've got it bad?" kinda way. failing a test loses its punch when your friend's younger brother is dying of cancer; and a bad breakup pales in comparison to a different friend getting a divorce and becoming a single mother.
