So, stolen from [livejournal.com profile] thehefner, [livejournal.com profile] badmagic decided to put together a superteam of six brave people, both real and fictional, to fight crime. ((Well, okay, his is technically five people and a gigantic lizard. Scematics.))

He then challenged his readers to come up with their own set of six characters to fight crime. Mine are mostly fictional, but that's often because fictional is more fun. From an original set of 42 interesting people (I swear I didn't do that on purpose), I narrowed my crime fighting superteam to:

Emperor Joshua A. Norton I1: He is the Emperor of the United States and Protector of Mexico. He would be in charge of human relations, and of printing up banknotes so the team could get their awesome on. He's the member of the team with all the connections --friends with Sam Clemens and Jules Verne, and well liked by the local police and businesses. He is dignity personified, and the rest of the team respects him, in their own odd ways.

Hermionie Hatchett2: She is a Doctor of Literature teacher/book thief turned pirate turned teashop worker. She carries a sword and a pistol on her belt, and is equally proficient at each. She's on the team to be both the most intelligent (stable) member and a more than competent fighter. Additionally, the fact that she speaks eleven languages perfectly, and has worked with spies, means she's in charge of international affairs for the group.

Kerowyn3: Kero is an expert tactician, having pulled her mercenary company from the absolute dregs to one of the most desirable in her world. She is knowledgeable about magic (though not magically talented herself) and is blessed with the ability to read minds, though she is moralistic enough that it is not a power she commonly uses, or even makes public knowledge. She is in charge of organizing and leading the group on skirmishes, and when it comes to defeating magical opponents. Also, she has a magic horse3a, Sayvel, who works as an auxiliary seventh member when needed.

The Middleman4: MM has the most experience with the weird, the wacky, and the evil. He has an unshakable set of morals, and is arguably the second-most polite man alive4a.In the group, he acts as their primary detective, and a gunman for close combat. He also tends to have his charming manner exploited when the team is up against attractive women opponents, as he's often good for a few minutes of crucial distraction.

Helen Narbon5: Miss Narbon is a true MAD SCIENTIST, focusing on the fields of genetics and biology5a. She's far and away the most evil member of the team, being as her ultimate goal is to, of course, rule (or destroy) the world, but she has an immense respect for the Emperor5b, and the other four put up with her lust of power because of how incredibly useful she can be, when she's focused on the scientist part of her title, and not the mad part. She's also got extensive connections with the mad scientists network, which is no doubt a common enemy for this group, and the ability to create giant attack gerbils as a form of instant army.

and

Spider Jerusalem6: Spider is a bastard, and an asshole, and a total pain, but to make up for it, he is unwavering in his search for the truth, cynical enough to see through ploys that the more naive members of the team6a. Additionally, he's from the future, so he is more tech savvy and more hardened than the rest, able to deal with even the most gruesome scenes. His primary duty is to discern which situations they get into are the sort of things they can fix with a lot of gunfire, and which are the ones that need to be brought to the public attention. He also serves as an additional detective, and general antagonist and bait when needed.

Who's on *your* superteam?

1: He's my only real person on this list. He is also my all time, no holds barred, favourite historical character there ever was. A lot of my personal canon about him is drawn from Sandman issue #31: Three Septembers and a January. You can read more about him in his wikipedia article.

2: From my favourite book ever, The Pirate's Mixed Up Voyage, by Margaret Mahy

3: From one of my favourite books ever, By the Sword, by Mercedes Lackey
3a: Okay, saying Sayvel is a horse is a bit like saying your average dragon is a gecko. Sayvel is a Companion, and she's just as intelligent as any human.

4: From that television show that I've been squeeing about since December. Seriously, go watch The Middleman. I cannot tell you how much trouble I had deciding between The Middleman, Lacey, and Wendy. (And it now occurs to me that Roxy would've been great too, and Ida...sigh!)
4a: After Benton Fraser. Guess what show I started watching last night!

5: From the webcomic Narbonic, by Shaenon Garrity.
5a: I think. I'm pretty sure she's genetics and biology, but she could also have some chemistry thrown in there for good measure.
5b: Helen Narbon has an immense respect for anyone crazier than she is.

6: From the comic Transmetropolitan, written by Warren Ellis.
6a: Well, MM.

So, TECHNICALLY I missed it, but we'll just pretend I'm on California time, and still have two and a half hours before it's no longer the eighth.

Happy Deathday to Emperor Joshua A Norton I. He is the best historical character I have ever known of, go look him up on wikipedia like now.
