Dicember Day 21
S****! Dice
(Obtained 2004? from 9th Level Games)

Okay so when I was originally brainstorming my list of which sets to feature, here is what I wrote about this particular set of dice:

Very plausibly take a day for my S! dice! That feels like the sort of shout out long-time readers of my livejournal would enjoy! (me. I am the only longtime reader in question.)

Dicember Day 21: S****! Dice

So. These dice are for a game. You'll notice I haven't actually said the name of the game, because I don't actually want to have to play it just now. Also the first rule of the game is that you cannot talk about the game. So perhaps this should be a short entry.

Yes, they're worn nearly blank. Don't you worry. I can tell if they're right, may God strike me down should I lie. *effusive wink*

In all seriousness, in the _way_ back whens, I used to call myself a "diceaholic". I don't use the word anymore (something something, being twee about an actually debilitating and horrific disorder) but I just want to be clear that I have been obsessed with getting my hands on as many interesting math rocks as possible for my entire documented life1. And this little trio absolutely qualified, and I purchased multiple sets that year at Origins.

I should figure out where my pin got to sometime. And challenge Magus next time I see him, just for old times sakes!

(and if you want to see a cleaner set, here's another triad:

1: I don't quite have a good word for this --I also rejected "sentient". But the idea is that at the _very_ end of 2003, when I was 14 years old and in 9th grade, I started writing in my Livejournal. That was a very specific turning point of my life, a place where I can clearly divide things into before and after. Certainly not adulthood, but...personhood?

Dicember Day 20
Rainbow Splash Dice
(Obtained 2021 02, from Ice Cream Dice)

Dicember Day 20: Rainbow Paint Spatter

It's another entry from my beloved Ice Cream Dice, purveyors of delicious math rocks (note: for legal reasons, do not eat the dice)! These are not an IceCreamDice original, but they are fairly unique among my collection for their exquisite texture. That paint-splatter effect appears to be a physical one, done over a set of plain white dice, and it means that you can feel the drops of paint as you handle the dice. Oh, they're certainly well sealed --I've never had paint fleck or chip off-- but it's definitely more bumpy than traditional dice. I find this a very appealing thing (I like sensory stuff!)

Also the rainbow colours chosen are just perfect. As a Big Ol Roleplaying Queer (or "Gaymer" as I believe the kids these days say), I have acquired a handful of pride sets here and there. These are not officially any kind of pride set, but they live in the pridebag with more blatantly flagged dice, because I love the idea of a chaos-based rainbow flag, getting the idea across in an explosion of colours in every direction, instead of carefully stacked stripes.

("wait, the pridebag?" well yes. It has a rainbow of icosohedrons embroidered on it, and holds a good half-dozen sets or so. I don't collect dicebags with the same fervor I do their contents, but I've obtained several official ones by now, a few with themes. I've got a great jack-o-lantern bag that I hope to put all my Halloween dice into next time I organize, and a radioactive lime green that might just become the slightly snarky "you have _how many_ green dice?!" bag.)

Dicember Day 19
Secretly Nonbinary Flag Dice
(Obtained 2020 04 from a Foam Brain Games mystery bag!)

So I....hate is a strong word, but "strongly disprefer" is probably about right. I strongly disprefer the nonbinary flag. For those not up on their pride colours, it's the black-purple-white-yellow one. I much prefer the she-hulk genderqueer flag (purple white green) or the totally darling agender flag (shades of black, grey, and bright green).

But then I got these dice. Which are not the nonbinary flag. Definitely not. No way. Nothing intentionally pride like here...

Dicember Day 19: Accidental Nonbinary

Okay, you know what? Fine! I admit it! Purple and yellow CAN look good together, and these dice might fully be the reason why I accept that. I love the cloudy swirled look, and the softness and yes the colours!

They came in a mystery bag, which is always exciting to try and track down later and identify exactly what set I've found. In this case, I think the name is "purple and yellow jade" which is an interesting idea --it does sorta have a jade look to it, albeit entirely the wrong colours.

And at any rate, because I liked these dice so much, I genuinely think I softened on the nonbinary flag in general. Enough that I eventually...

Dicember Day 19: Accidental Nonbinary Both sets

...Got a more traditional striped flag as well.

Dicember Day 18
Toxic Green Skull Dice
(Obtained 2021 12, made by Dead Eye Dice)

Dicember Day 18: Toxic Skull Dice

So I am _picky_ about inclusions. In fact the original list of dice I was gonna post about included one set that I only felt so-so about, because it was everything I didn't like about dice with inclusions (too twee, not thought out enough with the positioning). This set was on the list specifically to contrast it!

This does inclusion right --the inclusion is distinct enough that you can pretty clearly see what's inside, without having to be careful with the positioning (although almost no inclusions photograph well in my experience). Oh, and for anyone worried about whether inclusions mess up the "fairness" of the die roll? Turns out that ~I don't care~ so never you mind your little head about it.

As a weirdo, I'm a sucker for a good skull, and these definitely get the job done! They are well placed within their dice, and the neon green slime swirl makes for an excellent bit of visual interest. They were one of the first DeadEyeDice sets I obtained, and still one of my favourites (in fact, they're one of my current purse-dice sets, so I always have a set on me!)

Somewhere waiting in the wings, I'm pretty sure I have a set of purple skull dice to find, and I love the idea of combining both sets and rolling me a genderqueer flag of skulls! C'mon, that sentence just feels _super_ metal, right?

(Edited to add later: As it turns out, the purple skulls are in the very current iteration of the incentivesbox! I have a d4 and a d6 and a d12! Genderqueer flag of skulls is gonna have to wait until I finish out this batch, hopefully by the end of January.)

Dicember Day 17
Googley Eye Dice
(Obtained 2022 01, made by the Evergreen Burrow)

Dicember Day 17: Googley Eye Dice

EvergreenBurrow is perhaps most famous for its duck d20 --another rare instance of me receiving dice as a gift--, which was one of the first instances I ever saw of dice with *inclusions*, with little toys or trinkets or decorations embedded inside the resin.

This seems as good a time in the project as any to say "I do not give a flying fuck about balance". Lots of people get extremely worked up about the balance of the dice, are they fair, blah blah blah. I do not care. I don't think that any of these little small-run manufacturers are going to be making dice that are intentionally unbalanced (hard!), I know that inclusions are usually the exact same density as the surrounding material (or their own density is negligible for some of the lighter ones, and I know that a properly *numbered* die circulates the numbers, so that even if a die was weighted to roll a lot of 20s, it will also roll a lot of 2s.

So the fact that EvergreenBurrow makes really cool inclusions dice is something that I can just enjoy for the sheer delight of the matter, and these are one of the best possible inclusions. Because they're googly eyes. Carefully inserted so that they _still google_. Forget those modern liquid core dice I keep seeing (okay, maybe don't, those are rad), these are the future of dice!

Released as an April-Fools-But-For-Realsies kickstarter in 2021, the googley eye dice just consistently make me smile. It's such a hilarious idea for a set of dice! And such an enjoyable thing to roll.

Green Prism Dice.
(Obtained 2022 02, made by DeadEyeDice)

Dicember Day 16: Prism Dice

I don't play favourites with my dice.

Seriously, while I was doing the photography for this project, one of the best things about it was that I _didn't get bored_ --every time I pulled out a new set to document, I found myself rolling them around in my hands and admiring the sunlight and the shine. Marie Kondo would be proud of my collection, because nearly all of it sparks outrageous joy! I love all my dice sets very much, and could never choose a favourite!

...but I did take more photos of this set than any other, by like...an order of magnitude. When I finished photographing them, instead of putting them away, I set them to the side and then kept coming back and taking more pictures in between. They are _so gorgeous_.

Dicember Day 16: Prism Dice

And I do play favourites with manufacturers! There's a lot of dicemakers and distributers out there who I'm quite fond of, but a chance Etsy search looking for a present for my metamour let me stumble upon DeadEyeDice. They seemed legit, the prices were not at all bad for handmade1, why not try it?

And then the package I received was *so* charmingly wrapped, with little bonus candies and trinkets thrown in, and at that point, I just gotta reward good customer service, right? R-right?

I'm pretty sure I am one of DeadEyeDice's nine people2 and this set was probably the one that clinched it. I love so many of their sets, but this one just takes my breath away and fills my heart with calm every time I gaze upon it. Amazing work!

(I bought the mini-set in the same style, but it has not yet appeared in my Advent Calendar, so I'm impatiently awaiting that one. They sell a chonk d20, much larger than normal, and I am strongly thinking about buying that as well...)

1: It's worth noting that part of why the prices are lower than many other shops offering handmade is because TJ does not polish the dice after removing them from the casts, and there are the occasional cracks or chips. I plain do not care about this, because the positives _far_ outweigh the negatives for me, but YMMV

Dicember Day 15
Red Shimmer
(Obtained pre 2011, probably pre 2007, most likely from Chessex but no definites)

Dicember Day 15: Red Shimmer

When I was trying to make my list of which sets specifically to include, it occurred to me suddenly that I really ought to feature some of the olllllld sets. Like, the ones I had before I graduated college. Or, in all likelihood, before I graduated high school. I only have one set of dice that can drink, but there are a handful that've been rattling around my dice bags since I was a weird teenager instead of a weird adult.

These are one of those sets! They've gotten a little worn around some of the numbers, but the transluscent shimmery glitter is just as pleasing as it always was. These particular dice are old enough that they _might_ predate pumpkin colours as my favourite...or in other words, these dice are my favourite colour...circa when I got them!

I don't always have good language for styles of dice (in part because different companies have different names for their own styles). So there are words that I use and try to be consistent about --matte, glitter, shimmer, sheen, swirl, stripe. The ~shimmer~ in this kind of dice is one of my absolute favourite looks --it's a sort of microglitter that is so overwhelming you can't differentiate anything but an endless starfield of wee flashes of light. I've gotten several other sets with this style in later years, but this one was the first chance to see such a cool effect!

(Also, as I was doing photos and writing separately, I note that the shimmer is a lot less evident in the photo than I would've hoped. I may try for a do-over photo if I have time tomorrow, but if I don't, believe me that it's there!)

Molten Orange Dice

Dicember Day 13: Crane Dice

It will not shock you to learn that the 2021-22 school year was _hell_. I mean, let's be real, every school year is hell now, because we've traumatized the youth of America by killing their families and are now gaslighting them into thinking that the pandemic is over and everything is fine. It's great! Why wouldn't it be great? But I am digressing too much into the sort of thing that this post is not about.

So since the school year is hell, as we neared the end of the year I decided I wanted to do something nice and splurgey for myself. Obviously it was dice, it's basically always dice these days, they make me really happy. And so I went looking through my etsy bookmarks at some of the *really* high end stuff. Handmade, hand shipped, and they came with a wee little dice guardian in the shape of a folded paper crane!

Plus the colour is just _amazing_. I am picky about my oranges and this is _absolutly_ the right shade for me to be thrilled and happy. And check out what happens when I hit it with a blacklight...

Dicember Day 13: Crane Dice Blacklight

Aw hell yes!!!

It doesn't make the schoolyear less hell, it doesn't make me less burnt out, but it dos at least bring me Comfort and Joy and I will take that wherever I can.

Dicember Day 12
Sunset Metal Dice.
(Obtained 2020 12 from Foam Brain)

Dicember Day 12: Sunset Metal

Dice come in a variety of materials, and I'm mostly not at all picky about the plastics. Having had several different kinds at this point, I've found I am picky about the non-plastics. Metal dice are pretty and all, but they feel like they can't be rolled on my desktop without some kind of protective mat in place, and I'm worried about them chipping the non-metal dice if they get stored in the same bag.

That being said, a good enough set of dice will make me rethink my prejudices and these are absolutely good enough. With the bonus of them having been a surprise --Foam Brain was having a pick-a-random-box sale for Christmas during the pandemic, and one of the box themes was "rainbows". Translation: gay.

These are not exactly rainbows --it took me a while to realize that they're sunsets! And they're also a prototype set, a group of dice that FoamBrain received to see what they thought, and if they wanted to pursue further creation. In this specific case, they did not, meaning I might be one of the only people in the world to have this exact set. NICE!

(man, are they heavy though. Which is a benefit too --sometimes you like to have a good weight in hand! But it's noticable which dice bag they're in.)

Dicember Day 11
Candy Cane Dice
(Obtained 2021 03, from Ice Cream Dice)

Dicember Day 11 - Candy Cane Dice in Hand

Look, I promised myself that even though I am doing this in the month of December, I wasn't gonna get all froofy and December-Holiday-Thematic with things1. That being said, candy canes are delicious (legit one of my favourite flavours, especially in ice cream) and these dice are so pretty! The white layers are almost creamy in their not-quite-matte shine, and the red layers contain a lovely subtle glitter that just makes the dice look good enough to eat.

The downside comes from when I do my traditional proper posing of the dice for photos. You may or may not have noticed that in very nearly every photo I post of my dice, every die visible is set to its highest face. It's just good woo to do it like that, you teach the dice where they are supposed to be pointing, so that they become comfortable and used to that position and roll it frequently when you are actually using them to engage in play.

But certain sets --this one very much included-- have a colouration flaw that just makes them...well...

Dicember Day 11 - Candy Cane Dice on Table

...kinda dull to look at? It is my esteemed opinion that the highest side on any die should also be the most visually interesting. That's just not the case here --I would've loved to see them offset so that the stripes are on better display. But I still am very happy to handle and roll these dice, and enjoy thinking about how syrupy and good they would taste. And hey, maybe it's good for me to have some dice which *aren't* set to roll highest, in case I ever need to intentionally roll low for some reason!

1: To be fair, I also don't really have any/many dice that *are* December-Holiday-Thematic. I mean, I do have a lot of holiday dice, as long as the holiday you're thinking of is Halloween. I have a _lot_ of Halloween dice by this point.

Halloween Black and Orange
(Obtained 2019 01 from Q Workshop)

Dicember Day 10: Pumpkins

I _love_ the texture of these dice!

I like a lot of things about these fabulous spooky Halloween dice. But the fact that the design is raised is a really wonderful thing --they feel unique in my dicebag, which makes it nice to grab them quickly if I need. Plus, the over-stylized pumpkin design is just really cool looking --very suitably spooky and fun.

I'm not usually a huge "black and orange" Halloween fan, but this makes for a well done exception. The design is striking, the colours are sharp, and the feel is marvelous.

These are some of the first dice I ever bought via kickstarter! I don't know how I found the thing originally, but I was really pleased by the fancy designs and colour options. I've been meaning to do a more recent order from them sometime. Anyone fancy splitting shipping from Poland?

(Maybe next year I will do a special Halloween-only Dice-tober week to sample some of my other cool spooky dice designs. I'm a little bit goth, I have a *lot* of spooky.)

EDITED TO ADD: Q Workshop decided to align itself with the Queen TERF of TERF Castle which is, frankly, bullshit of them. I will not be purchasing anything from them until they stop doing that, and show understanding of why it was a shitty choice, because there are so many dicemakers out there who _aren't_ giving money to people who actively want me dead.

Dicember Day 9
Glow-in-the-dark Fireball
(Obtained 2020 12 from Foam Brain Games)

Dicember Day 9 - Glow Dice!

There is a gentleman known as "the pervy artist" who I used to be mostly friends with back when I still went to Balticon. In addition to his art, he sold his wife's cameo pins and pendants some of which --and I can only say this phrase in his voice now-- "glow in the fricking ~dark~!"

These dice are a beautiful orangey yellow swirl! Orange is definitely my signature colour1 but there's a pretty wide range of oranges, and I actually have some pretty strong feelings about shade. These ones? Are right in my wheelhouse. They are bright and happy and a lovely colour and they have a very nice smooth feel --I mean almost all plastic dice do, but something about this particular set scores very highly in my mental feel category.

Plus, as aforementioned, they glow in the fricking dark!!!

Dicember Day 8
Necropolis Stacked Green dice
(Obtained 2022 05 from Tabletop Loot)

As it turns out, I have a problem.

Let me make one thing immediately clear: The problem is not that I have too many dice. I fucking _love_ all my dice and think they are amazing and want to own enough to fill a bathrub and scrooge mcduck my way around in them! That sounds _great_. My collection makes me genuinely happy and having a desktop strewn with random jars of dice is *delightful*

No, my problem is specifically this part of my collection...

Dicember Day 8: So many green dice!

Dicember Day 8: Green Dice!

I really _really_ like green dice specifically, it turns out. My favourite colour continues to be "pumpkin" (which is to say, green and orange together specifically) but just independent green --especially a high saturation bright kind-- is always good too.

Which brings us to the Necropolis set, which I refer to as "stacked greens". Because, well...so they are!

Dicember Day 8: Stacked Greens "Necropolis"

I saw these on the website and figured I had to give them a shot, and I'm so pleased I did because they just...absolutely camouflage themselves into the rest of my green dice as a group, yet are distinctive and stand out on their own. Sure sure, it's "yet another set of green dice" but at the same time, it's so many different greens! I didn't realize I had such a penchant for stripes until I got this order from TTL (there's a set I won't be featuring this month that's all stacked reds and oranges and it looks like a campfire!!) but now I know it's my new dice weakness.

Which is good, because my old dice weakness was apparently "green" and I think I'm probably okay on those for a while!

TransBeads
Dicember Day 7
Trans Pearls Dice
(Obtained 2021 12 from Dead Eye Dice)

Dicember Day 7: Trans Beads

This was another early set ordered from DeadEyeDice, my on-the-record favourite Dice Manufacturer. Their official name was something like "subject 42" because TJ is not over-twee with naming, but come on, just look at them. Those beads are _trans_ and I lose my mind over how great they look!

I don't really think of something like this as inclusions. Like, yes, the pearls are included inside the resin, but I feel like inclusion more often implies some cute little figurine, and these are just...pearls. Round and pretty (and I do like round things) and a good collection of colours.

Specifically, the colours are a pink and blue and white spectrum that invokes the trans flag to me. I certainly don't think it was intentional, but I do think it's pleasant and I am always excited to have secret subtle pride things in my life. I know I'm not the only one --I've a friend who accepts my secret smile when I say "nice dress" on days they're specifically wearing the one coloured in certain flags.

Despite calling them TransBeads, I don't store this set in with my other pride dice. Instead they get to hang out most often in the MainBag (with occasional stints in the SecondaryBag, but that's just a function of space at this point, both are so useful for storing my great many pretty _pretty_ dice.)

Dicember Day 6
Gwent's Dice.
(Obtained 2019? Manufacturer: Chessex)

Dicember Day 6: Gwent's Dice

So I played various rpgs on and off throughout my entire childhood. Da's homebrew game for me and the sisters, Paul's Runequest game for me and Veronica and his nieces, DnD with Bernie and Joe and Fish and Amanda1, a few one-shots here and there. But honestly, my overenthusiastic obsession with the click-clack-math-rocks was always more one of aesthetics than practicality --I wanted cool, I wanted attractive, and I wanted LOTS. I didn't need them to _game_ with, I just _needed_ them!

Which means that 2020, when I joined a zoom Pathfinder game run by my friend JoshZed as a chance to teach his brother and nephew what rpgs are like, was the first time I ever specifically selected *one* set of dice to be used for a specific character. I was playing a ranger, and so my eye fell upon this beautiful swirly set I'd scored a year or two prior that felt like *just* the right colours for Gwent.

Dicember Day 6: Gwent's Dice d20

And wow, was that ever a good choice. Having a specific set of dice for a specific character has been an absolute *delight*, and as we approach the end of the campaign, I am finding myself plotting ways to properly retire these.2 In part because they have served me _so well_ story-wise! I roll brutal attacks...and absolutely trash charisma checks, and somehow that always leads to the most enjoyable outcomes!

(I am still salty about them failing that _really_ critical reflex save a few weeks ago, that led to Gwent's would-be-death, and subsequent second chance by the sacrifice of our beloved NPC. But that's been a pretty sweet story beat as well!)

Chessex was one of the first dice manufacturers I ever really knew by name, and there's good reason for it. They're a solid classic powerhouse, and I still look with loving eyes at their products when I visit game stores. The official name for these dice are the Marble: Green/Dark Green set, and Chessex urges you to buy their dice from your favourite local retailer (online or in person), which I heartily agree with!

Dicember Day 5
Scrollie Rollies - Middlegame
(Obtained 2021 06, made by the Evergreen Burrow)

Dicember Day 5: Scrollie Rollies

Despite what this project may imply, I don't own a ton of fully handmade sets of dice. Lots of original designs from places, but then sent out to factories to do the actual manufacturer, because the whole thing where you set the resin and put in the colours and inclusions and glitter and What Have You and then you carefully get the dice out and then you sand and polish the shit out of them...well that whole thing is Expensive.

And so these have a note on my spreadsheet with "currently the most expensive set I own". That is...no longer true, but they are still the third most expensive set. (the first most expensive are planned to show up in this year's Dicember, the second most expensive are not. Nyah nyah, you'll ~never get to know about them~ unless someone badgers me to write more after Dicember proper is over.1)

In my defense, they have _actual book_ inside them! Strips and sentences from Seanan McGuire's Middlegame, twirled around one another. I'm pretty sure you can just read the word "blood" at the right angle.

I might love Seanan McGuire more than I love dice, but one of the reasons is I know she'd understand and never make me choose between them. (I don't know if I love dice more than Seanan loves dice. That's gotta be a close race.)

Anyways, these are handmade, they are sharp edged, they are expensive, they are literary, they are beautiful.

Dicember Day 4
Tentacle Pirate Dice
(Obtained 2021 12, from the Black Oak Workshop Advent-ure calendar 6)

Dicember Day 4: Tentacles

OKAY SO!

You've probably heard me reference at some point my Dailies or earning a die, or the advent calendars. This is it! This is where a huge accomplishment of ADHD management started! It's with this set of dice (and three others, but as the calendar is still available I'll let those remain surprises).

I bought the Advent-ure calendar because a) Seanan McGuire recommended it and b) PIRATES, DUH. And then...it arrived after Halloween, and I didn't really have anything to count down 31 days to and I was just sorta generally unorganized about it, so it languished in my room for a bit.

...until I decided to combine it with my dailies checklist. I'd been using a spreadsheet to keep track of things I'd like to accomplish most days for...a couple years at this point. What if, should I check enough boxes in the same day, I received some sort of reward? What if...the reward was dice?!??

These dice are a little larger than most, and absolutely _gorgeous_ in both colour and art. Complete Katnip in design, and Black Oak Workshop does really great d4s especially. I was very glad to get through the whole calendar, and then I've been thrilled repeatedly since as I've gotten it refilled on non-standard Black Oak sets (don't worry, I also bought their Calendar #9, and I'm trying it out as a ToDo list reward incentive thing. It's working...okay.)

Dicember Day 3
Wee Neon Pumpkin Coloured Dice
(Obtained sometime between 2011 and 2019, my best guess is 2018, bought from Pandamonium)

Dicember Day 3: Wee Pumpkin Coloured Dice

Gasp! What's this? A set of dice actually bought in a real life brick and mortar games store instead of a flashy website on the internet? How unique! How rare! How...okay, look, pre-adult Kat bought all their dice in person, but pre-adult Kat didn't have a debit card. And even post-adult Kat is able to succumb sometimes --the only reason there aren't more dice in this category is that my dice collection became significantly more so starting alongside the pandemic, and that's the same time I stopped going to brick and mortars.

To be fair, I have gone to Panda since the pandemic started, and I will likely go again sometime in the next month...just well masked and trying to be efficient! But still, it was those halcyon days of endless browsing and not worrying about ventilation in which I purchased these dice...and I believe snuck them into my very own xmas stocking, because _come on_. They are neon! They are pumpkin coloured! They are wee neon pumpkin coloured dice!!!

You know that joke that's all "forget your pronouns, I wanna know what your adjectives are"? I haven't entirely settled on mine, but "wee, neon, and pumpkin coloured" is a FAIRLY ACCURATE way to describe the Sorcyress. If these dice could dance, there would be no way to tell the difference between us.

Dicember Day 2
Mosquitoes in Amber Percentile Dice.
(Obtained 2021 09, made by AngryPomDice)

Note: Today's dice involve dead bugs. If you aren't into that, you might want to skip the image )

You may have noticed by now, that I am primarily a collector of *sets* of dice. When I was a wee baby diceaholic, I reveled in getting the pound-o-assorted, in "scoop a bowl out of our giant glittering bin", in "dreams of scrooge mcducking the Chessex booth".

But in diceaholic round two ("this time I have a salary!") I am much more concerned with pretty _pretty_ matched sets of seven (or eight, or ten, or eleven...). I want everything to line up Just So. And...as a mathematician, I'm a sucker for a good quintet of platonic solids. So these dice are an exception, but there was never any question about getting them.

When AngryPom announced that they would have a set of these for the Final Ever Store Drop, I set multiple alarms on my phone. I planned. I _camped_. I don't normally do that kind of nonsense, I find it too stressful usually, but come on! My amateur-entomologist-ass was absolutely gonna be sucked in by the idea of dice with _actual mosquitoes_ in them. I mean, what could beat that?

Plus, now if I ever need to roll up a dinosaur character for a Runequest game, I have the _obvious_ set to play with. SUE would be proud!

Here's one more close-up for good measure. )

Dicember Day 1
Rainbow Confetti Dice
(Obtained 2022 02, as a mystery set from Dice Envy)

Dicember Day 1 - Rainbow Confetti

Most dice sets are seven dice, identified by the number of sides: d20, d12, d10, d%, d8, d6, d4. (a d% or "percentile" is a d10 written in multiples of 10 instead of 1. You can roll a d10 and d% to get any integer from 00-99). Dice Envy goes a step further with their originals though, and sells them in groups of ten. You get a second d6 (with their lion logo on it), an "infinity" d4 (it's their special design and it's pretty neat), and...a chonky d20!

d20s get a lot of extra love, since they're frequently the most commonly rolled in rpgs. But the classic icosahedron is just a _nice shape_ as well, and having one that's extra big is extremely satisfying to play with. I really appreciate that Dice Envy makes it part of their sets as a matter of course, to give you something bold and blocky and fun to play with!

I like getting mystery sets of dice, especially as a way to "try out" new companies. Usually they're a little cheaper, sometimes the packaging is quite cute, and it's a good way to get something unexpected. The rainbows in this set definitely qualify --it's right up my alley, but not something I necessarily would've grabbed on my own!

Edited to add: Also this photo is perhaps less good than the rest will be because this is a set of dice I earned via my dailies, *after* the summer when I took all my photos. What're dailies? That'll come up later, I'm sure!
