Today was a pretty good day, full of accomplishments! Mostly ringing related accomplishments. I went to bells and was only a few minutes late (despite arriving at the green line station just as a train was pulling out. I think that was ~10:52? So I probably actually got on a train at about 11, and was at the tower by like...11:20? This is such a wonderful thing and I am so happy that the green line extension actually exists).
I feel like I ran a pretty good practice. It was a weird and rare day in which we had almost no beginners --Todd was the beginnerest, and he's ringing multiple methods (we made him ring grandsire doubs and trips and stedman and plain bob inside, and trebling to some surprise minor and a major method with a plain hunt treble). We also did some called changes, and a little bit of playing with handling --I opened it up to suggestions and accepted "let's ring with our eyes closed" as a good one. So we did a minute or so of closed-eyes-rounds, step one bell to the left, repeat several times.
I got complimented at the end for managing to get the timing quite right on telling people to stand, which I feel is bonus impressive because I was on the heavy bells --5, 6, 7, 8! Apparently, if my eyes are closed, I still know when the treble is pulling the handstroke. I think I need to remember for *myself* that this hobby really is about just doing the thing ten thousand times, because dang, I have gotten pretty solid ropesight somewhere along the way.
After ringing was Advent-tower-cleaning, which meant we all tromped over and played in the dust for a while. I helped wipe a few things down, and mostly hung out in the belfry, tightening bolts, adjusting rope lengths, and trying to sweep up some of the infinity brick dust to make the chime rope a little less likely to snag. I also got to wash all the cups in the industrial dishwasher! It is always a good day when I get to use an industrial dishwasher!
Danielle was organizing towerclean, which means she also organized "time for ice cream" afterwards, and we tromped off to JP Licks. I got a root beer float with their new "marshmallow mouth", an extremely blue ice cream. The flavour is just vanilla, but it is very very blue. Both Todd and Sam had their hair down (sorta shaking the dust out post-cleaning) and so I got to do braids for them while we were all standing in line.
Post ice cream was traveling home, followed by brief errands in Porter. I picked up some books from Porter Square Books (and ordered more books --if you are an October Daye fan, PSB confirmed to me that they *are* doing the indie bookstore preorder pins for the next two books, which are coming out in September and October). Then I swung by the grocery store to purchase eggs, and somehow managed to purchase nothing but eggs? Seems fake but okay.
I walked home while reading more of my book --after a few months break, I am back to trying to read all the Peter Wimsey mysteries. The break was because the last one I had read had a pretty iffy subplot that used the n-word _way_ more times than I was comfortable. Like, I know they are "of their time" or whatever, and sure, it was generally portrayed as uncouth and unsympathetic to use that particular word, but gosssshhhh nope. But I'm continuing to give them a try, mostly because I want to get to Gaudy Nights eventually, having been told it's one of the best ones.
Sat on the couch, subsequently fell asleep, woke up when Ezri and Rey got home from their own grocery shopping. We all did nice lazy couch hangs for a long time, and eventually I got up and made deviled eggs since bellringers are hosting coffee hour at one of the churches tomorrow, and therefore bringing snacks. It's my first time using a piping bag (read: ziploc with corner cut off) and wow, that really is a gamechanger in how much easier it is, innit?
Now I am settling for bed. Is good! Is good day. Goodnight!
