Today was a good day! With many positive bits!!!

I was feeling fragile as hell by the end of work yesterday, in part because it sure was a 10.5 hour workday after which I still felt Hella Behind and stuff. I haven't done anything to make myself feel less fragile about work, but I was able at least to invite Austin over and give him some forewarning about my mood. So he was sweet to me and gentle, and I went to bed early resting curled up against him while he did some work.

I learned today that he was up for like three hours after I conked out, so I very clearly needed the sleep because I did not notice that at _all_

But then today! I woke up very well rested (I got like...close to ten hours!) and poked at Austin a bit and then decided to go downstairs and Make Pancakes. So I did that quick (they turned out...slightly weird. I think I might've used too much flour? They were very fat, but still extremely tasty). Pancakes are a nice soothing activity that provided me time to clean the dishes and wipe the counters after myself, and then we got to eat pancakes before bells!

We were already running a wee bit late to bells when we got to Davis and found that the red line is bussing this weekend. So we ran across the street...and got on the shuttlebus directly behind Bee and Todd who were also running a bit late. The four of us had good conversation from Davis to bells, and then there was Good Ringing today!

(It was a ten person practice, which meant we got to do a fair clip of stuff on eight bells! That hasn't always happened recently, so fuck yeah!)

Post ringing was sushi and hanging out with folks, and then gradually peeling off. Austin and I said goodbye to folks and went into the haymarket to buy a pumpkin for later. We went down to the green line station...and found Bee and Todd waiting for the train as well. Okay sure!

When we reached Harvard, they were all "yeah, we're gonna walk from here and skip the shuttle" but Austin and I felt lazy (and were carrying a pumpkin). We had just settled into our shuttle seats when...Bee and Todd got on the shuttle and joined us! Apparently the rain was too much at that moment (a valid concern).

Finally at Porter we said goodbye for reals. Austin and I did some quick shopping trips in CVS and Michaels (looking for cool Halloween things, both places pretty picked over, note to everyone: I want a dumb anatomically incorrect bone octopus please and thank you). We got some extra candy for trick or treaters, and headed home, by way of admiring some local Halloween decorations.

Once home, we consulted The List of things to do, and decided on a snack. Once we'd calorized, it was time for Recreational Math --the New England Math League contest, which we've been doing together occasionally for basically the entirety of our relationship (I get them at work and bring copies home for him). He got 5/6, I got 4/6, yes I'm slightly peeved at myself for not recognizing the trick to the one he got and I didn't.

After that, it was time to CARVE OUR PUMPKINS! Which...turned out so good actually? We had discussed on the way home and decided on doing an Among Us theme, and probably the way to make it look best was going to be a lot of scraping instead of just silhouetted cut-outs. Neither of us have either tried to carve a pumpkin like that before.

It turns out with determination and a giant pile of knives, MAGNIFICENT THINGS ARE POSSIBLE! Honestly, the tools that proved most helpful were the wee tiny pocketknives I brought down, both of us finding a preference for the very small blades. Easier to manipulate and complete detail work, and it turns out our pumpkins look fantastic! I figure there's equal chance that every kid who comes trick or treating is going to flip OR everyone's gonna laugh at us for being a year out of date.

While we were carving pumpkins on the floor, Ezri and Rey were puttering around the kitchen and making dinner, so there was a nice stir fry available once our pumpkins were done. We ate together, and then Austin and I headed upstairs to actually play a bit of Among Us with some random folks. The game was small but fun, and we played for an hour or so (taking turns on who was running and who was tasking)

After Among Us was done, we did a nice shower, and I spontaneously washed my hair. I mean, not completely spontaneously --it needed it-- but now it is drying in a towel and making my scalp cold and hopefully I will not have to wash it again for a while in the colder months. Part of the goal of shower was making nails nice and soft for trimming, and then painting with some cheap but very shiny polish we got a few weeks ago.

While we painted nails, we watched a recent Vi Hart video (about dice!!!) which was a lot of fun. It was very peaceful! We've now done absolutely everything off the todo list except watch The Addams Family, which Austin's never seen. I don't think we'll make it tonight, which is fine.

Tomorrow is Service Ringing and a s00j concert and then lighting our pumpkins and giving candy to children. I am looking forward to it all, even though I don't really know what to wear as a costume. Probably just go full spiderqueen, yanno?

I hope you are having a nice spooky weekend, and staying draw, and managing to be productive here and there.
