It would be _deeply_ embarrassing to miss my words for today because I was busy reading fanfic straight through cron.

I mean, it would also be deeply embarrassing to read fanfic for *that* long because I am definitely going to get eight I mean six I mean four hours of sleep tonight :p

Why am I reading all the fanfic in the world? Because I was talking to Veronica, and fic came up, and somehow it was revealed that I have an AO3 account and she didn't and so I sent her an invite so now she can favourite stories and stuff, and all her squeeing about the different features lead me down a rabbit hole of looking at things like my "subscriptions" or "bookmarks".

Cue me reading a 60k word James Bond/Q "plot with porn" fic that is _delicious_ and dark enough to just absolutely hit my brain in The Good Way. Which I only re-read after devouring the 71% actually published of the fucking darkest most non-con abuse story I've ever loved (it's a Glee fic, I contacted the author to beg for how it ends, I'm not gonna drop a link because seriously, it is _terrifying_) so like....I'm clearly in the mood for some darkness.

Oh, and of course after I read the 60k Q fic, I find the 100k sequel that crosses over with White Collar. I would like to be very clear here: of the three fandoms I have mentioned, I have almost zero familiarity with, uh, _any_ of them. I saw Casino Royale, but none of the other Craig-Bonds (so no actual Q), and I believe I saw two total episodes of Glee.

So the fact remains true that Good Fic does not actually need to be Fandoms I Follow. I should put together a list sometime of all my favourites though --the Sorrowful and Immaculate Hearts series is in there (DC universe, a supes who is genuine and kind, a Bruce who is devastatingly shattered inside, quite a lot of sex, also quite a lot of Meme Culture Via Robins), and The Plain And Simple Truth (probably my favourite Harry Potter fic, it's soft and kind and gay and traumatized), and the best ever Middlefic (which name I can't remember, whoooops) and of *course* The Paladin Protocol which is my most-loved of all time.

And if I get real hooked on ~reading~ fic, maybe someday I'll try my hand more at ~writing~ fic. I don't know that I'd be good at it, but the exceptional thing about AO3 is that it has incredibly thorough tagging, and people are desperate for just everything, so if you write it, they will come. And leave pleasant little kudos in your email inbox for literally a decade afterwards.

(I am hella proud of the Hitchhiker's fluff and the Melendy future that I have written, and have received positive attention for both. That is a good feeling.)

In the meantime, I'm on chapter six of eleven, and hey, it's not even four AM yet! Surely I could finish just _one_ more chapter...

MOOP!

(I am too lazy to chase down all the appropriate links this late in the morning, but if someone leaves me a comment reminding me, I'll edit 'em in)

Edited to add: I got about another half chapter into the abovelinked MI6/White Collar fic when it got hard into the bioterrorism/fears about potential pandemic plot, and like...the fic was published in 2013, it's not commentary, but uh...that hits a lot harder than the author probably meant to. Between that it and being four, I haven't finished yet (but look forward to doing so this afternoon)

I'm still very fond of it as a piece, but it needs an edit and a beta like whoa. Snow In The City (~1800 words, Randy as a young, homesick, adult)

I shall read!
