This is the way life _should_ be.
I was visiting my friends, Sharon and Leonard. I'm going to catsit for them next week, water the plants, take out the trash, generally keep the house in good order. In the half-hour conversation we had (in addition to all the cat bits) they wound up offering me use of their car tomorrow to do some clothes manipulation (makes my current cat-sitting adventure MUCH easier), and giving me half a tupperware of turkey leftover from Thanksgiving.
And just...taking care of each others' houses and pets. Feeding each other. Loaning use of cars that would just be sitting idle in the drive otherwise. Good conversation and excited showing off of lovely new remodelings. Taking _care_ of each other, and being friends to each other.
This is how all of life should be. There shouldn't be people with heaps more cars and food and stuff that they can't _possibly_ use, not while there are other people starving and dying and working themselves to the bone.
I'm a little late for it, but I remain incredibly thankful for my friends, my family, for the people who love me and I love in turn. Be excellent to each other.

on 2019-12-06 01:48 am (UTC)This is what I am finally learning with my heart and not just s a distant good idea. We are made for community! Made it to give and take, help and accept help!
I’m all for individual strength and self reliance, but people should not be expected to do it all alone, nor be /able/ to.
I’m glad your community is working

on 2019-12-06 02:39 am (UTC)I'm building some social software, and one of the things I hope to do with it (as a side benefit, not the main goal) is help people lend each other things. I'd like to be able to say "I have a bike trailer, feel free to borrow it" or search for people with like... rakes or something. (This probably already exists, but if so, is probably owned by a startup that wants to "monetize" it somehow.)
I also want to make more use of our living room. That was one of the things we were looking for in an apartment, a space where we could host things.
