Today was excellent, and by all rights, should be delivered via a photoessay. However, most of my photos are on my camera, and I don't feel like digging out the card reader right now, so...

...wait, what? There's a card reader on my laptop? I...I am skeptical. Hang on, I think I need to try some science.

OKAY FINE, I guess I will give an account of my pretty much completely awesome day via photoessay, gods!

So today was excellent! I got invited last week by Nurit to go out hiking, which somehow turned into an excellent pile of people I enjoy driving up to Breakheart Reservation in Lynn, where we completely ignored the fact that there was knee deep snow everywhere, and went tromping merrily around to look at things.

Pretty much as soon as I got out of the car, I saw the first relevant thing: A playground with a stegosaurus to climb on.

DINOSAUR!
Can I get a hell yes?

After I had adequately climbed around on that, we all tromped off into the woods. There was a path for a very limited amount of time, and then lots of interesting desire paths for us to follow, and plenty of places where we could break trails. This is the part of the essay where I shut up and show you pictures of pretty snow landscapes.

Snow on Tree Stumps

I spent a bit of time pretending to be some sort of large awful predator and paralleling their path (which involved quite a bit of bounding through knee-high snow in the middle of the woods) and eventually successfully hid behind a bush and ambushed them. I'm sure they had absolutely no idea that I was there, because a rather large predator (at least compared to the chosen bush) wearing a bright orange coat and jacket in the middle of the snow is pretty much the most subtle thing ever.

I also climbed on many rocks (although not nearly as many as I would've had there not been snow, mostly because I could not find them --my general modus operendi when hiking is to wander around and put myself on top of every sizable rock I see, and take pictures of turtles, and generally be as annoying as I possibly can to the SRS HIKERS while still enjoying myself immensely.), and we found one GIANT rock that I could not climb on, probably not even when it had snow. Around one side, it did have really cool crackly ice patterns, which I took pictures of:

Eventually, we found ourselves looped back to the little waystation by the parking lot, and so we went in and ate snacks and admired the fire and taxidermy. In addition to all the lovely dead animals, there were some live animals including......

Box Turtle
A BOX TURTLE!!!

That's right folks, my commitment to y'all and also to jere7my is so impressive that I can go hiking in the middle of February with a foot of snow on the ground and still bring back a picture of a turtle.

(Do you want to know what else I bring back because I have been hiking with jere7my way too many times?

Mushroom with Snow!

I took like ten pictures of this patch of mushrooms (a couple more are in Flickr), because when you see mushrooms, you inevitably are going to stop and you might as well take pictures of them, because that's what your hiking buddy is doing for the next ten minutes.)

Anyways, after we had gotten just warm enough to notice that we were all sopping wet, we decided to go for round two of ADVENTURE, and hike another loop. This went at a much more sedate pace, although I did get to balance on a guardrail for a while, and involved quite a lot of stopping to look at birds.

Sparrow
I am told this is probably a song sparrow? It was doing quite a lot of pecking at the water, and this is the only remotely good photo I got of it.

After birds, there was little else of interest...except the TEN FOOT TALL ICICLE!
Giant Icicle!
--this is a chunk out of the middle, because all my other photos have people in them and I haven't asked for permission yet. Also, this was a primo chance for me to take pictures of people taking pictures, which is basically my favourite thing.

That was more or less the end of hikingtimes, we trailed back and did hugs and then everyone else got into the other car and drove away, leaving me and Nurit to go on a fabulous Savers adventure.

The adventure was predicated by the fact that she had a 50% off everything deal going on, so I spent about twenty dollars total on one sweater (orange, soft!), one scarf (bright orange, also soft!), and four pairs of shoes. How great were these shoes?

Cute Shoes
Well here are the two best pairs. I am going to be looking for every excuse possible to wear those suckers this next bunch of time. I imagine at least one pair is coming with me to Easthill so, you know. Beware. :D

After thrifting I was starving, so Nurit used more coupon-fu and took us to Fuddruckers, which was having like...a two for one Valentines dealie. Then she gave me a ride to dance, where I was hopelessly late and without sufficient shoes (none of the four pairs I bought are for Scottish dancing) but got to do lots of lovely dancing and stretching.

Tomorrow I am going to be very sore, but it was an excellent day.

I hate to break it to you, but that's one pair of shoes, and they don't match.

:p

If only critical thinking skills existed, and you could figure out those were examples from the best pairs!
