Sundries!

It's officially time for a sundries post, because I have several billion windows open with interesting things to share, and I should fix that.

*J. Cannibal's Feast of Flesh is This Saturday night, in Davis Square. It's gonna be horror burlesque, and an alien themed rock band, and generally a really wonderful time of things.

*The UN has appointed a contact for aliens. This is...kinda rad, really!

*Here is a pretty crazy example of the fact that we are living in the future now. It's a bluetooth-esque headset that can record up to five hours of video/audio, and plausibly live-stream it to the web. Crazy stuff, for a lot of reasons, but possibly the thing that gets me most (and I recognize I am hardly the one to comment on this) is the idea of just...reliving moments, over and over and over again. We need to not do that, so that we can go out and have more moments, yeah?

*Rach linked a pretty well written introduction to privilege. Good for people who have no idea what I'm talking about when I start babbling about the kyriarchy.

*So...Cracked.com did an article on something, and they linked to this site that will sync audio and video from two different YouTube links, and the specific example was remixing the video of a Japanese McDonalds ad with the audio of an anti-Ground Zero Mosque1 ad. The result is truly bizarre, and somewhat mesmerizing.

*Mek found a collection of gorgeous photographs starring a model and a skeleton. Go look, they're lovely!

*And last link for today, Shakesville would like to offer instructions on How to fuck. In case that somehow wasn't clear.

Last but not least, Dog restarted the saying nice things about people meme, and so Comment here and I will reply with something good about you. Yay!

~Sor
MOOP!

1: Which is, say it with me, not at ground zero, and not a mosque. Thank you.

ETA: OHMAN! So, 11points.com, which I've been following for ages now, just released the newest list --11 Incarnations of Doctor Who, Ranked by Handsomeness. I disagree mightily with the fact that Tenny is not number one, (and indeed, with several other thoughts) but I'm amused that it exists.

Whenever I hear one of those "it's not that I'm intolerant, it's just too close" ill-informed rants on the Manhattan Islamic Center, I always want to just innocently ask, "So how close would be OK, in terms of Manhattan blocks?" Because I'm sure the answer would, most times, be less than the 12 (?) that it actually is. Grr.

Baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaby!

Also, nice things about you! I still really really appreciate that you are okay with dancing the lady part sometimes in SCD, and don't much mind which gender role you wind up in as long as you are getting to dance! Also, you have an excellent beard. I don't know if it's cheating to comment on physical good things, but it is a very nice beard.

Soyeah!

Totally fine by me to comment on a physical good thing (and thank you!) especially as that wasn't *all* you found to say. :-)

And wtf with the Tom Baker hate? #11?? 0.o Plus, PD is ten times cuter than WH; hell, SMcC is ten times cuter than WH :P And yes, Tenny totally should be #1 :| (had so slowly back away from the comments before falling into a proper Ferret Rage >.>)

Glee, Doctor Who Ferret! *poings a bunch!*

Nice things about you? Like, everything about you is a nice thing! You are super-super enthusiastic about people and projects and cool things, and even when I don't know what you're talking about (minecraft whatnow?) I like that you enjoy doing it and sharing it with people! Also, you give the best hgugles in the ENTIRE UNIVERSE, and leave lots and lots of comments and make me feel loved. And I hope that I can make you feel loved too, Harena, because you're one hell of an awesome ferret!

Hee, the Doctor Who Ferret is also a [livejournal.com profile] swingerzetta creation! Is he not Marvelous? :D

And i'm probly not supposta respond to these but i figure more comments make you more happy and feel more loved (though, not entirely sure how that could happen since you are one of the mostest loved people1 i know & how in the world could a few wee ferret comments make more than wee droplets in it all, butyar) and yes, you do make me feel more loved 'cause you say nice things about me to me even when i'm not madly fishing for them in an attention whoring kind of way! *huggles'morelike*

1:. o O (And that icon encapsulates two people i know love you in particular! Not including the ferret!)

1) That you know and use the word "kyriarchy" makes me happy. And kinda turned on.

2) I could really, really stand to hear something good about me today.

I don't know you from Adam, but you a) have pink hair and b) know (and, I assume, use) the word 'kyriarchy,' and both of these things are inherently awesome.

Currently, I am just incredibly supercharmed that you took my "I will be an ego-booster!" post and left your own ego-boosts for people in it! I like the idea that you really can't possibly go wrong by saying nice things about people, even when you don't know them at all.

Also, you're well worth hanging out with, and I enjoy reading what you have to say.

Hi there. I am most assuredly not Adam. I am Gabe. And thank you! I always had problems with the use of patriarchy to describe the imbalance (and maintenance of imbalance) of power. It felt too simplified. Learning about kyriarchy helped give me a word that fit my experience.

I like how easily you can talk to pretty ladies, and tell them that they make you happy. Or kinda turned on. ;D

Also, you're a pretty rocksome person, and I'm glad that I've been getting to know you better over the last year and a half or so. I'm jealous of the fact that you and Elizabeth can put yourselves out there like you do, without worrying about the ohnoes consequences or whatever, (and of course, it's always gratifying to see more pretty pictures of pretty people!). You are open in a way that very few people I know are --not just about sex, but about music and politics and relationships and things you like and do-- and I appreciate you sharing that with the world.

Also, your hair is superpretty, and I want to put it in pigtails. Can I sometime, please please please please, pretty please?

Thank you very much. I've run into some problems recently with expecting openness and authenticity (and the work to maintain a relationship with those things) in some of my friendships, and so it's very helpful to me to see those things being valued by someone. Thank you. You've made my heart a little lighter today.

And yes, you're more than welcome to put my hair in pigtails. And brush it, and run your fingers through it, and... *melts*.

It was actually closer to thirty or something. I've gotten rid of most of them now, and so I just have seven, plus this one, plus two for school. Soyeah.

Also, you're always very friendly and touchfriendly, and willing to give hugs when needed. It's great fun to get to walk with you when our classes work out, and while I don't get to dance with you anywhere even close to as often as I'd like, I do enjoy it every time it does happen. You're another one of those excellent dancers who can dance without worrying about what gender you are, and indeed, even with switching genders in the middle and not getting terribly confused. This is a wonderful thing!

David Tennant is more photogenic than Matt Smith but I could see where they were coming from putting him at #1. <3 Also I totally agree on the snape comment about Paul McGann.

Secondly, shakesville is mega awesome. I'm glad you're commenting there now! :D I go by Lyrwen.

Thirdly, I would love to hear a nice thing :3

Shakesville is megaawesome! I do not think I will be commenting there superoften, but when I have something to say, or the time to go through the long comment threads, it's nice.

Regarding thirdly, how will I ever narrow it down to just one nice thing to say about you. D:!

(I love love the :3 smiley, bee-tee-dubs. I don't use it very often at all (I feel like it's just a little bit too twee for most of my interactions, and that like people will crazy judge me for it), but it makes me smile lots.)

So, one supernice thing about you is the way you went ahead and fought, and kept fighting, for the whole women-can-lead, men-can-follow thing at your dance. Bending the typical gender/dance roles is a really important piece of the world for me, and I love to meet fellow people who are good at it, and willing to try and fight for it.

Also, I've been lawling for like three weeks now about your tweet where you said something about getting a new coat and therefore turning into Tho. Glee!

Oh boo hiss. Just as well though --I believe Warren Ellis was going to try and apply for the job...

Also, awesome things about you include the fact that you are a spectacular dancer. It's wonderful to be in sets with you at SCD, since you're one of the few people who I enjoy just watching dance1, and your setting is just lovely. Also, you introduced me to Seanan McGuire's music, which is probably the best thing, musically, that's happened to me for a long while.

~Sor

1: I don't much like watching dances, simply because, well, if there is dance music on, why am I not dancing to it?

Unfortunately, the UN has not appointed Mazlan Othman to have anything to do with aliens. Othman is the UN person in charge of all space issues, and she's made some remarks that the UN needs to be more ready to deal with a first contact situation. That's been distorted and blown out of proportion by the media.

I got the skeleton pictures from Abandoned Places which frequently has some pretty awesome photo sets. In case anyone wants more of the same (though there's rarely skeletons posing with models in the sets. There was a really awesome abandoned train interior a while back, though)

Ohhey, i've seen that site before (and of course totally not remembering who has linked it to me but you were probly one of them ;P)! i love abandoned places and actually used to hang out in one (twas a 10(?) story hotel) on a semi-regular basis back when i was in the loony bin. Was even going to write the clichéd novel about a couple of kids messing around in the place and getting sent back in time and having the thing ending with it burning down in the present oslt ;P Jenny was going to illustrate the cover, too.

i'd totally love to see the train interior too!

I don't recall sending to you, but I've been watching it for so long that I might have forgotten. I think I sent it to Swing at some point, but all I really remember is that I got it from Warren Ellis.

That story sounds nifty!

Ah, i probly got it from Swinger, then.. i tend to muddle what gets sent to me from you & he frequently. And ah, of course. Warren Ellis. ♥

Heh, yeah, i guess, but it feels pretty formulaic to me... not that it matters... it din't get past the Idea Stage back then and it's certainly not ever going to get past it any time soon in the future.

It doesn't sound any more formulaic than other brief summaries I've heard but, well, they're just brief summaries so it's hard to tell. At any rate, it's not how original something is, it's what you do with it. You'd just have to put your own spin on the formula in question.
