Apr. 30th, 2008 12:27 amSo, today was a day. Nothing much got achieved, but I bought some lunchables, so that was pretty awesome.
And I'm apparently desirable to people who work at game stores. Waitwaitwait...a geek girl being desired by geek boys? SAY IT ISN'T SO!
(In all seriousness, this was kinda a grand example of how oblivious I can be. See, Lauren, Emily, and I were at Your Move Games (Davis Square, tied with Pandemonium for my favourite game store in the Cambridgeish area) since Emily wanted to buy a copy of Zombie Fluxx for her boyfriend for their eleven month anniversary. (Hee, dorks!) It turns out they don't have any, but we futz around talking to the man behind the counter a little bit, with me being the obviously more knowledgeable in the way of games one.
As we're leaving, he leans over to shake hands with me and properly introduce himself (a common trope in my life, I often have conversations where I don't learn the other parties name until an hour in) and asks for my phone number. I go all "I really don't like using phones, but you can have my e-mail address", and write it down for him, say goodbye, and leave. And then Lauren and Emily are all "Zomgar, he was totally hitting on you, squee!" and I am all "...Hurr, he was? Oh, I thought he was just being friendly."
And, uh, we've kinda been tossing friendly e-mails back and forth at each other all evening, in IM sized chunks. But, I mean, their totally friendly.
...well, kinda. See, it occurs to me sometimes that what I consider to be friendly, other people might consider to be flirting. Although I did just ask him if he died, if I could have his stuff, which doesn't seem particularly flirtatious or friendly to me. I dunno.
ATANYRATE, it's definitely not flirting, because I really am not mentally equipped for that right now, plus I'm leaving for Maryland for the next four months in...two weeks. So, if it is flirting, it's the really friendly kind that doesn't mean anything. Fencrush1 flirting.
Butyeah. There's a little bit of ego-reaffirmation there that makes me smile. Because I totally need my ego boosted or something. :P. What's the phrase I came up with again? Oh yeah... "Insecure Egoist"
ATANYRATE!
The entire reason I meant to make this post was because gay!Mel, who I met at NEFFA (And who is not actually gay, he's just flamboyant) linked to this.
Dude, lolcats and beatles. I lawled.

MOOP!
1: Fencrush is a word I only just came up with over the weekend. It's referring to the feelings I have towards large swaths of fandom, where I will totally flirt outrageously with the person, because they are hot, and cuddly, and I enjoy the hell out of their company, but I'm really not interested in pursuing a deeper relationship. I can think of at least two, and possibly three people who fall into this category on my flist.
(nowait, maybe four...kinda five...or six...seven...okay, there's a lot of you, not all of whom are in the fandom. I'm thinking at least one member of the pie shop, three people in the fandom proper (ie, met at conventions and everything), one person met in the fandom auxillary (ie, the interwobnetsdotcom), and two shed boys...)

on 2008-04-30 01:27 pm (UTC)Yeah, I've been known to say that pretty regularly myself. Unless flirting is just over the top, I can never tell when it's happening.
What's a shed boy?
