Nomad Summer
Feb. 27th, 2010 03:28 pmSo, for those who don't pay attention, a week or so ago, I said the following: Summer: Beginning to think that the plan is going to have to be a nomad of sorts, especially since the parents are dibsing me for most of a six week span or something. Idea of putting almost everything in storage and just spending a few days or a week with people I like is v. appealing.
Because my parents are certainly dibsing me for a six week span, and because I'm a lazy ass who has not yet found legitimate employment, I am thinking that getting an apartment this summer would be a less than productive plan. Which means that I have to figure out something different to do, because really, as much as I love MA, it is much much more important to my continued happiness that I simply *not* be in Columbia for the whole summer.
(Much much much MUCH more important)
However, my summer lasts a little longer than the six weeks my parents have claimed me for --I get kicked out of my dorm in mid May, and don't get to move back in until after labour day. But I figure, between Florida, Atlanta1, California, Massachusetts, Maryland, Vermont, Ohio, and Chicago2 I'm already gonna be bouncing a damn sight around this summer.
"So", thinks I. "Why not try to extend it?"
Which is to say, if you're willing to put me up for a few days, or a week, and you want to do such a thing at some point over the summer, you should *totally* drop me a comment and let me know. Tell me where you live, and when you want me, or when you can't have me, and whether or not you have odd jobs to do around the house that I can come help with in order to earn my keep. I will bring Middleman, and snuggles, and a just staggering amount of enthusiasm, at least until I run out of social halfway through and return to Maryland for a fortnight.3
And hopefully, a good time will be had by all, I'll get to spend one on one time with people who I don't get to see nearly often enough, I'll get a fun adventure in scheduling, and most importantly to my silly mind, I'll not have to spend my entire summer in MD, hating everything there ever was.

1: Why is this Atlanta and not Georgia, as would fit the naming scheme? Because I am slowly gaining the opinion that Atlanta =/= Georgia, and while a steadfast yank like me is a bit reluctant to ever admit going deep enough south to be in Georgia, the relative haven of Atlanta is at least a little more socially acceptable.
2: Same reasons, Chicago =/= Illinois.
3: I actually hope to plan for the fact that I will experience social burnout if I try this, and relax for a bit in a low social environment, such as at home at the Empty City. Yes, you may laugh at my idealism.
(((The Sorcyress has other terms and conditions to coming to visit, among other things, whether or not she secretly hates your girlfriend, whether or not you live waaaaay too far away, or whether or not she has a better offer for that particular block of time. This is only an experiment. If you live close to somewhere I can get a bus to, that's awesome, if you live close to somewhere I can get a boltbus to, that's even *more* awesome. Other terms and conditions may apply. Small text is small.)))
ETA: And to those of you going "wow Sor is an egotistical ass, why doesn't she just get a job already and stop whining and trying to freeload off her friends" you are mean and make me sad. This is not so much an adventure in freeloading (and part of actually going through with it will involve buying nice food for people, and like I said, seeing what I can do to be helpful around the house) as much as a "get me out of this hellpit please" and looking for volunteers who do not mind a spare person around the house for a day or two.
