Today was an unexpected amount of adventures!

The original plan was "visit Daiso in the morning, come home for lunch, maybe go out to see some touristy things in downtown Sac". Things...more or less went according to plan?

The Daiso turns out to be a quite nice Japanese stuff-and-snacks-store. Lots of fairly affordable home goods, with a quite nice selection of a large variety of different things. I got a couple of little presents for people I know (which I will plausibly hang on to until next Chrimbo) and some pleasing toys for me, like bunches of different coloured pens for not-too-expensive, and a few slices of *very* keen origami paper.

It was a train ride and then a walk through several parking lots worth of strip mall/box store, which was kinda neat to look around and see how this suburbia differs from other suburbias I am familiar with. Fetian and I managed to score four-for-four on arriving at the train station just in time to watch the train we wanted to be on drive away, it was really uncanny. Luckily, the train schedule is not heinous and we never had to wait too particularly long for a new one.

We returned home and consumed the snack half of our shopping (red bean buns!), and watched some Monster Factory --we've been watching the Spore saga, in which the brothers attempt to improve upon a dog, and instead make Shrek. It's fun and horrifying! Then it was time to pack up and go out again.

The successful half of the adventure was taking the train to see the Japantown commemorative mural, placed in part of the space that was once Sacramento's Japantown before a freeway got put through it. It's a quite pretty mural, and seems well maintained. After, we were going to walk to a purported cherry blossom overlook site. We weren't expecting cherry blossoms this early in the year, but we figured it would likely be a nice place to sit regardless and maybe do some drawing or somesuch.

This turned out very unsuccessful, in that we couldn't find the dratted thing at all, and could only maybe find where it was supposed to have been --and it didn't seem to be in a place one could walk to at all, despite what Google Maps claimed. The looking for it did lead us on a quite nice walk alongside the Sacramento River though! We got to observe river birds (heron, ducks, geese, and I think I saw a cormorant) and an abandoned building with an abundance of graffiti inside, the "dragonfly" water treatment plant (quite pretty, maybe abandoned?) and what might've been an older water treatment plant (extremely cursed and clearly abandoned). There were also a spectacular number of trains and related infrastructure, since we were passing right by the California Rail Museum, and the main Amtrak station and the like.

We went under a rail bridge, but not at either of the same times as the Amtrak or Freight trains we saw passing over it. This is probably good, that's probably the sort of thing that is Scary to experience (but I still kinda wish we'd lucked out). And I took some pictures of various trains, including of the big turnstile next to the museum.

Having not found the blossom overlook, we headed home (by way of some boba tea at the outdoor mall on K street). Longish train ride (we should've eaten more lunch, was the conclusion) and when we got home it was pleasant to find that Ash was almost finished making dinner. He'd made a very good curry, with a "choose your own" set of vegetables to add to it. I ate as much as my stomach was happy with, which was unfortunately not nearly as much as my tongue would've been happy with (but I think there may be leftovers, so maybe I can seek that out tomorrow).

Ash and Fetian and I watched some telly --I've now seen a couple episodes of Kipo and the Wonderbeasts, and found it pretty fun-- and ended with a WILTY from youtube. It had Sam Campbell, who remains delightfully Weird!

Now is quiet time for the rest of the evening --probably some video games, maybe trying to watch another Our Flag Means Death. Tomorrow we're going to go to a ~dinosaur experience~ which should be goofy and fun. I'm looking forward to it!

Goodnight
