On Saturday, as I was biking to Beantown Stomp (from Terrapin's house, a long long ride!) I decided to "pre-game" the music. I don't know if that's exactly the right word for it, but it sums up the feeling, where I found music that made me REALLY PUMPED UP and listened to it as I approached the dance.

It one hundred percent worked.

I mean, Beantown Stomp was also just a really delightful event all around, and I think I would've had a good time either way. But purposefully influencing my mood through the use of Sweet Tunes is something I don't do often enough and really should, because it pays dividends.

I'd say it's one of those ~signals~, how if I stop listening to music I'm probably not doing well, but like...I too frequently lose the soundtrack anyways. I need to get better about that. I don't know that it will make me more stable, but fuck it, I'm already good enough at stable. I *enjoy* my emotions more when they have backing tracks.

[note to reader: yeah, that's one of those pithy sentences where I'm trying to Word Clever in order to cover up the realization that I just found a pretty deep Truth. Hold on to this one, kiddo.]

A long time ago, mek used to refer to using music to "get high" --as far as I know, he wasn't adding a chemical component, but certain tracks played against certain moods make the brain give you The Good Shit. I've noticed it too, because brains are so delightfully squishy and who needs the illegal stuff anyways? Like, just open your mind, man!

Maybe it's time to get serious about making playlists again.
