It has been a delightfully lazy day, although I've managed to actually accomplish quite a bit.

Mostly it has been a day of lazing around the house. Tuesday did a batch of sorting/organizing/the general sort of thing you do when you visit your parents, and I managed to grade one entire set of MiniQuizzen (only two more of those to go and then the project...). Karen and Tuesday and I went out in the early afternoon, while it was still plenty light out, and shoveled the drive and brought some yard furniture into the barn (after sweeping off the snow). I did not particularly help with any cooking, but I socialized, and then I read nearly all of Barrayar --I'll probably finish it before the day is over, which means I am rather doing Correct Things in terms of the whole "take a vacation and try to catch up on your library pile".

Meanwhile, Erik has been reading Karen "Guards, Guards" in the evenings as she does the kitchen chores, and while I could mostly ignore it last night, tonight Tuesday and I found ourselves rather invested and demanding a "no no, don't stop on that cliffhanger!" until he went on another paragraph or six. I've got a goodly number of the Discworld books on my ereader, and I haven't read the most of them1, so maybe that's about to happen sometime soon.

Tuesday and I have been staying up a bit too late, so hopefully tonight we'll roll into bed at a more sensible hour. Tomorrow there is zoom games with the extended family, and then Sunday very early we drive back down to Boston (and Karen and Tuesday onwards to Providence) with a load of things in the car. And then probably doing the rest of that grading since realistically, I might get the other quizzen but I'm not getting the projects in any world with a priority of relaxation.

It feels rather closer to how life is supposed to be, lounging in front of fires and reading and being read to and petting the cat and occasionally deigning to eat a bit of pie.

MOOP!

1: The first 5.5 --I got distracted in the middle of Wyrd Sisters and didn't finish it at the time-- and 3/5 Tiffany Aching. You may be aghast as you will.

Until 3 months ago, I'd bounced off the first two Discworld books, read "Guards, Guards", and that was it! Then I went through a bunch while recuperating this past September - I skipped the Unseen University books, but other than that I think I've read all of the first 12-15, and perhaps one or two beyond.

There's been a pleasant upwards drift in writing skill as the series continues, which I was thinking was unsurprising (practice tells)... but now that I pause to consider, long-running series do sometimes risk falling prey to an author phoning it in or just rehashing previous books, so perhaps it's more noteworthy than I'd originally thought.

I'm not aghast; I'm envious that you still get to read them for the first time.

May I tempt you by telling you that the fourth Tiffany Aching book, I Shall Wear Midnight,
arguably contains a three-person marriage?
