Good weekend!

People this weekend kept asking me how I am, and I kept responding really really positively. After a kinda-fucky Friday, it's been a _really_ good weekend for me!
(by kinda-fucky Friday, I mean it was _very badly_ one of those days where I limped through the school day doing the best I could to be present for the students, and then absolutely did nothing else of consequence for several hours before finally giving up and going home at like...seven pm? maybe later??? I mean, I've been crashing on Friday afternoons since I was in high school myself, you'd think at some point I figure out how to do it at home instead of at my work desk.)
But the rest of the weekend was lovely! Saturday bells turned out really delightful --we had enough for some rounds and called changes on eight, but mostly focused on six...including Rachel earning a sticker for their plain bob doubles! It's really neat that Rachel and Kyle have reached a point where I'm no longer any good at teaching. (I am _much_ better at teaching raw beginners than late-beginners or intermediates, but probably a lot of that is that I'm not actually _that_ far out from beginner bellringer myself. I think on Saturday I referred to myself at some point as "third baby", as in the third most beginner person present1.)
Anyways, it was very very good ringing and a nice time was had by all, and then I rushed away instead of hanging out for lunch so that I could do my Saturday afternoon plans.
...which were going to friend Maia's birthday party! It was so good! At one point early on, there is some joyful teasing of Maia, who then complains about being bullied at her own party and explicitly calls green, so we all obviously continue. She knows who she invited, and could've easily predicted this.
(My weekend ended with Austin and Maia and Elishka and I walking home together, and at one point Austin made a good-natured quip about being a fourth wheel. I pointed out that the problem was that he was hanging out with three queer extroverts2 and yeah, it's gonna be impossible for anyone who isn't a Loud Flirt to keep up.)
The birthday party was small --about a dozen people at most-- and some of us were masked and all of us covid tested and there was _singing_ it was so good! I think this summer was the time where I really truly accepted that I am into the folksong scene and I am so happy to find opportunities for that sort of nonsense!
There were also _two babies_ in attendance which is so good. I love me a good baby to interact with. I'm gonna sit on one of them later this week and I am very excited for that!
Because we are adults at an adult party, when the scheduled end rolled around, people helped clean up, made their goodbyes, and headed out. I was home by 6:30, and spent Saturday evening doing laundry, flirting with one of my partners, and playing video games. Somehow I even earned a die?
Today also started with bells, and the service ringing was just...so on today? I rang some lovely Cambridge minor at Advent, and then at Old North we had an enthusiastic eight! Grandsire and Stedman trips, Double Beryl and Superlative major, and a strong ring down at both towers. The Boston band has been getting more ringing on eight than usual lately (thanks Beryl!) and it's actually starting to show!
Then was bells-lunch, and hanging out for a good chunk of time with me and Bee and Austin and Julia. After, I wandered to the red line so I could check out the Pandamonium geek faire. I chatted with my doppleganger and Pixel, bought a few presents for mom, and started walking towards Harvard Sq, hoping to catch the bus.
I did not catch the bus. But Harvard Sq is now home to Rodney's Bookstore, my absolute favourite used bookstore that I thought was gone forever. It's in a smaller location than it used to be (locals: peep church street, next to the Christian bookstore), but it still had the exactly right cacophony of used books spilling off the shelf, and good prices. I got some more presents, and started heading towards Porter, hoping to catch the bus.
I did not catch the bus. But this did mean I could stop in Ward Maps on the way, also in a new location (a bit down the road from where they used to be) and admire all the shinies. And then Porter meant not stopping at Henry Bear's --they were closed-- and yes stopping at Michael's briefly. Finally schlepping home and collapsing for a bit.
Austin showed up about 7, and we helped Ezri with dinner and chatted a bunch about SCD planning, and ate food and rushed off to BIDA, hosted this week at the armory. It was a really good crowd, with Maia calling --on the walk home, we had a moment of effusive Maia-praise from all of us, which made her go all "aw shucks" but seriously, she's really good at what she does! I danced four contra dances, and two waltzes, and felt really happy about all of them!
I really love how visibly queer the BIDA crowd is. It just...feels safe and happy to be there.
Home again home again, walking with some of my favourite people in the world. Now I am in bed and going to brush my teeth and sleep just enough to be ready for work tomorrow. Goodnight!

MOOP!
1: To be fair, that's half because I'm basically the only ringer left out of my cohort. Michael moved away, Shantel moved away, Allison moved away, Sarah moved to the Cape, Joe is still local but so absolutely overwhelmingly busy that he never rings anymore. Todd is maybe the closest, and I don't necessarily think of him as "in my cohort" I feel like he started enough after me that we're at different spaces. Maybe Julia? Although she keeps starting over due to injuries so we're also at very different spaces.
2: I mean, I don't actually know how 'Lishka or Maia identify, but...yeah.
