Jul. 23rd, 2023 05:09 amToday was so good! Really just an all around fantastic day, although I did not medicate enough and I could certainly feel it. (I am in ADHD meds hell because I am one of the many people affected by the shortages. it sucks so badly. I know of no actions you can do, in terms of like...calling your elected officials or whatever, but please just be aware that this is happening, that ADHD people are currently undergoing an entirely bullshit manufactured shortage of our meds, and even those of us not directly affected are affected as shortages involve switching prescriptions around.
Also ADHD meds are controlled substances so the whole "just get a three month emergency supply" is actually deeply impossible. Alsoalso man, I need to go to the pharmacy and check in but I have been in jetlag hell as well as normal ADHD unmedicated hell. whee! Anyways, it's not good and it made ringing hard as fuck, let me tell you. BUT!)
So, today was a really good day! I think that's where we were at.
I got to go to bells for the first time in a while, where the tower had roughly a jillion people. It was so good to see everyone! It was also cute to see Austin and Phoebe back for the first time since the wedding and hear everyone be all happy and congratulatory --I continue to be so stupid happy for my wonderful married friends.
I ran practice (including handling lessons, including surprise minor, including taking guests upstairs) and felt like I did not personally ruin anything, although I couldn't have told you what much we did. I know we practiced stuff for just about everyone, so that's a good step. And that I aced the Annabel's line (and did pretty alright on the striking?) so that's also good.
Post practice I slunk away from everyone in order to go to Rogan and Mac's anniversary party, hosted by
lb_lee. It was really delightful! Just a nice bunch of people who I'd mostly not met, and snacks, and a beautiful location in JP. Rogan is going through some stuff right now but I got to talk to Mac a bit and wish them all well. Later there was a whole bunch of talk with Miranda and Mac (and maybe Mori?) about the plural-stories DW community, and I've got some ideas to go recommend there.
As afternoon started to shift to evening, I met up again with Austin --got to ride the orange line, which I haven't done in forever, and get silly-lost at Ruggles station because it has like four exits. I needed to go over to his place because he had a present for me, that he's not managed to bring to me for ages. It turned out to be a set of delicate beautiful fine metal dice with bells inside!!!!! like...WhAT? how do you even make something so perfect!
(At one point he was all "I know you disprefer metal dice" and I was all BABE. I like all dice but I especially like dice that don't feel like they're going to damage the table when I roll them (which is my biggest beef with most metal). These, you roll and they are light and chiming and AMAZING.)
I then chivied him off to get dinner, and took the opportunity to get samosas since we were at the nice Indian place near his house anyways. We ate food off in the park, then returned home to drink water and play some Overcooked2 together. It was quite splendid --we made it through all of world 3-- although my controls were all off from a week of playing Plate Up instead. No diagonals available, but you can throw and dash --it seems like a good trade!
Finally time for home again home again...leaving Austin's in the middle of inning 8 on a night where there's a baseball game happening in the big park near his house. Oh nooooooo. So I walked further than expected (which involved murderwalking1 through crowds of slow drunk baseball fans, which is fun in its own way) and eventually found a T station that was only sorta overrun and managed to get seats home because I am fast and wiley and smart enough not to stand right in the middle of the giant crowd and off to the edges instead.
I was saved by complete misery by falling into a texting conversation with a friend I've recently been getting to know better. We spent my entire ride chatting about life and media and ringing and mental health, and then carried it into the rest of the evening. They told me near the end "It's been really remarkably easy and comfortable to text with you." which was a fucking great compliment and has me all warm fuzzy, and eventually upgraded it to "you're so fucking charming" which is even better. I might need to add some of this to my testimonials file, it's been a while since I did any additions!
Then I poked around on the internet for a bit (ACAB but there has been progress made in the LISK case2, like a subject arrested progress and that's good news!) and then passed out on the couch for like four hours. Ah, we return to my normal style sleep schedules, very good!
Having finished my words, I'm off to bed a bit before more bells tomorrow. Goodnight!

As often when I am walking on busy streets, it is important to consider who gets the privilege of walking straight forward and who has to step out of the way and I consider it a treat and a delight to make men crash into me because they didn't realize it's their turn to do the latter because they've never had to before.
