Happy v-day

This was a good Valentine's day.
I only intermittently celebrate Valentine's day. My two relationships where I could be considered my partner's primary are with mek, who lives cross-country and Sparr, who is...not particularly romantic. So in neither of those case am I likely to be "doing something" for Valentine's day.
So yeah. Valentine's day is mostly a wash, most years, a chance to say I love you to my close friends and encourage people to write micro porn and that sort of thing. But! This year!
This year I happened to be in California right over Valentine's day. And so mek and I, guided by Tumblr, actually wound up celebrating. And it was a really lovely nice time of things!
We started last night by going out to dinner at Benihana, which involves good food, and exciting visuals. Somehow, despite being Friday the 13th, the restaurant was crowded with other couples who could not get into that fantastic niche Valentine's dinner time. We mostly ignored them in favour of our own happy coupleness, and really cool food tricks.
Today, we decided to take advantage of a suggestion from Tumblr as a Valentine's date. We went to a book store, where we each picked outafour books for the other to read. Then we came home, and read aloud from them to each other, which is super sweet and adorable, and may become my damn Valentine's tradition, because sending books to the people I love is a Really Good Idea.
Tomorrow, we are going to hopefully go out and buy cheap chocolate.
In summation, celebrating with someone who is fairly low-key about the "omg holiday!" parts and is mostly just interested in the "what nice things can we do together?" parts is a really wonderful thing. I am in favour of this.
Happy Valentine's, to you and yours.

on 2015-02-16 02:13 pm (UTC)I too, tend to not have much of anything for the day which is a bit of sadness for me 'cause I'm a hopelessly Romantic ferret but W is uhhh, totally Not At All Romantic. I know she loves me and fiercely defends/takes care of me, etc, but she doesn't do Traditional Love/Relationship stuffnthings so I tend to long for for a soo-prise thingy from her on the day which will never happen. (Though, one year, I did make her buy me a helium heart balloon from Kroger >.>)
So, the thing I did this year was to cleverly portion out the box of loverly Belgian Chocklits my eldest son sent me for Christmas in a way that I still had some for the Day, so not only did I have awesome chocklit then but afterwards none of that craptastic stuff 'murcans call chocklit the day after (though for all my elitist chocklit snobbery, I had bought a couple of boxes of peanut butter patties gs cookies and had them too)(Oh & I still have a full bag of the Sugar Daddies Rtizy sent me too! ^_^)
So, yayayay for Good Things on Valentine's :D
