So, I have had an excellent snow days! I hope your Nemo Snowpocalypse has gone half as well as mine, since this is about as satisfied as I can be without a dinosaur, backhoe or my sir.
I was lucky enough that fabulous-hippie-carfree-queer-math professor had asked me to babysit on Friday, so that I had work, despite the snow day and the fact that Somerville's schools were closed1. I got to spend the day playing with a six and three year old, including bundling up and taking a trip to the park. Around three thirty, she came back, and I biked home in the light and fluffy snow, feeling rather thoroughly satisfied with everything.
Once home, I (re)packed my bag and set out on the very long walk to ASEC, where there was being hosted a french-toast-and-blanket-forts sleepover party to celebrate the snowstorm. When I arrived, I walked into a room containing eight people on their laptops, which is a fine situation to walk into, really. I quickly joined them for a spell, by which I mean slunk off to another room and had a lovely Skypesession with Thorog, who I haven't gotten to talk to in a while.
After Skyping, I was able to properly join the party, which included any number of tasty things being made and eaten, lots of really lovely people sitting around and chatting, party games, and approximately all the cuddles. Somewhere along the beginning of the party, I met a charming young gentleman who caught my attention rather thoroughly, and I later enacted some pretty blatant flirting techniques at him, because let's face it, I like people and he is a fine speciman.
The best part of this was when the subject of OKCupid came up, and he revealed his username. It turns out that I had, in this past week, seen his account, read the entire profile, been entirely entranced, and come as close as I ever do to messaging him. And hadn't. I'm very very glad that fate decided to give me a second chance on this opportunity.
The evening wound down with about three hours of the party game Contact. I fell asleep for a spell with my head in aforementioned gentleman's lap (yay!) and eventually woke up enough so he could go upstairs to bed, and I could curl up with Sparr (like I had promised). Sparr and I had somehow gotten a couch, so I was even pretty comfortable at the giant sleepover party.
I woke up rather thoroughly around 10:15 in the morning and opted not to go back to sleep, in favour of washing dishes instead. This brought awake most of the rest of the house, and then all that nice conversation and cuddling that had been happening the night before was even more so.
I spent quite enough time conversing with my new friend to establish that I like him a LOT and wish very much to have more of him in my life, somehow at least. This will probably be more difficult to fit into his schedule than mine, so we will see what occurs. It certainly doesn't hurt that his umfriend is just gorgeous and wonderful and also uses they as a pronoun, and we'll see if anything comes out of that either.
Around four or so, I finally left the party and went trekking home, by way of Davis Square. The walk was just wonderful, and with the driving ban just barely lifted, the streets belonged to the pedestrians!
Just behind Davis Square station, that little park had hosted a number of snow sculpture makers, so I spent a lovely length of time wandering through there, marveling at the things everyone had made. I took a lot of pictures, which turned out surprisingly well for how much glare there was on my viewfinder.
Best of all, someone had made a tiny hut/series of tunnels that were easily big enough for me to sit inside. It was perfect silence in there, the foot or more of snow above muffling all possible sound. Absolute magic, and I pulled out my charms to thank my goddess.
I became more adventurous as I tromped home, including letting myself trudge hip deep through snow I had to bound through rather than walk. I giggled all the while, watching my legs disappear with every step. Once home, I admired the perfect way our teeny fenced in front yard had become a Snow Storage Facility- in case we need any extra, of course.
After arriving home, showering, and changing most of my clothes, I trekked off to
mindways's house for gaming and good company. There were both, as well as pie and a roaring fire in the fireplace, and everything about that was a perfect endcap to the day. I lost at Ingenious and tied at Train of Thought and won overwhelmingly at getting to eat all the delicious things.
Now I am home, with the bed turned on2 and more exhilerated than I've been for days. I've had barely any sleep and significant exercise, I should be entirely wiped out, but instead I am just very pleased at how well the weekend has gone- and that there is another full day to enjoy.
February is turning out to be a lovely month.
