Hokay. I have fifty plus tabs open, and I think most of them are personal notes and livejournals to respond to and stuff, but I figure I might as well get rid of a few by putting them here instead.

*So, Randall Munroe is apparently going through a really tough time. So xkcd right now is a little more arbitrary than normal as he deals with the real world. This week is guest week, today's strip is a guest comic drawn by Bill Amend of Foxtrot.

Holyshit and ohmygod, is what I'm saying here. I grew up with Foxtrot more than any other comic, I had the Biggest Damn Crush on Jason at at least one point in my life, and he's now half one of my favourite OTPs1.

And as Magus put it, "Yeah, who knew a newspaper funnies hack could fill in for one of the foremost comics in the world. ;)"

*[livejournal.com profile] moniquill is really neat, and I'd love to buy her lunch sometime if I weren't too broke to go to RI or, you know, buy people lunch. She wrote a bang-up2 piece over at Beyond Victoriana (an excellent, non-western-Europe-oriented, Steampunk blog) about incorporating her Native identity into steampunk. If nothing else, you should go look at the pretty pictures --oft I've been frustrated by something gorgeous she's posted and the fact that, because it's locked, I can't share.

(That is, frustrated I can't share, not frustrated it's locked3. I fully recognize the right of people to not leave their private journals open, and will probably join them in the near future.)

*[livejournal.com profile] xtricks, who I mention like ever other sundries 'cause he writes well, is looking to either find or form a centralized resource for finding communities devoted to encouraging diversity in fandom. Anyone know such a beast, or have suggestions for how to set one up?

*[livejournal.com profile] kittikattie linked The Penmonkey Paean, which is a sort of mantra for writers. It starts with I am a writer and I will finish the shit that I started and continues on for there, in just as entertaining a vein.

*That window is my boarding pass. Yeah, hey, I'm at the airport. Currently sitting in terminal E, on the pre-security side, waiting until four AM when Southwest will let me check in, and presumably security will be open for gropingbusiness.

*Photos of a 91 year old woman who, when she expressed to her photographer grandson she was feeling depressed and lonely, he arranged a superhero photoshoot for her to cheer her up. I would _totally_ read any and all issues of Mamika

*I got my Yuletide assignment, and I am completely excited, and a little freaked because not only do I not know any of my person's fandoms except the one I applied for, I have not even *heard* of them. So, I may have to investigate, just for thoroughness. Also, now I must commit fic, ohgod, ohgod, ohgod.

*Quote of the day regarding the TSA fuckery: "I can take a 1 in 80 million chance of being on a plane during a terrorist attack or face a 1 in 1 chance of being sexually assaulted at the airport."

*I gotta say, it's small and petty and completely not the point, but I've had at least two people link my recent TSA post in their roundups, and it's...kinda neat to have strangers looking at and sharing my words. I'm gonna have to write more good stuff, I think, more stuff worth sharing with strangers.

*Based on about two posts in the history of ever, I've decided I like John Scalzi. Here's the more recent: Accurate but Misleading Movie Synopses. Escape From New York is in there, as "A former soldier tries to find someone in the Big Apple but is frequently distracted by the colorful locals and their interesting lifestyle choices."

*This morning I received a free apple. I was about to cross the awful intersection from the CVS to Porter Square, and as I stood waiting, a woman on the other side dropped a couple apples. One was picked right up, but the other rolled quite nicely down the hill and straight into my outstretched hand.

When I reached her, I offered it back. "You can keep it" she said. "Really?" I replied, and she nodded. So I shrugged, and ate it on the rest of the way home. And let me tell you, that was seriously the tastiest apple I've eaten in a long time.

That appears to be everything for today! Ta!!

Oh hey, at two AM, the lights go down. this is lovely!

MOOP!

1: Jason Fox and Calvin (from "and Hobbes"). You can call me crazy, but their love is so wonderful!

And there would be a link here, but the Geniuses site appears to be down. I say down, because I refuse to believe it's dead, not when I've only got four of the twelve or so stories archived. Eek!

Oh good, It's on fanfiction.net if you're desperate, which, in all honesty this fic is good enough that you could be. No one would mind.

2: Bang-up is a good thing. It means excellent, or cool, or boss or rad. I just don't use is as often as the rest of those. Great adjective though.

3: It's like having a _really_ juicy piece of gossip that you can't share, which, bee-tee-dubs, I totally do.

Huh. I'm in Rhode Island a lot lately and I found that article really interesting. Maybe I should buy her lunch for you.
