There is something incredibly nice about lying on your back in the middle of Broadway half a block from Times Square and sucking in the sunlight and the city and the people and the everything.
The book was nice too --"Naomi and Ely's No Kiss List", which is by Rachel Cohn and David Levithan. Unlike Boy Meets Boy, which David Levithan wrote and is one of my favourite books ever, I don't think Naomi and Ely needs to be read by everyone I call 'lover'1.
I think it needs to be read by everyone I call friend. Someone remind me to send a copy to Veronica please?

Of course, now I'm sitting in the middle of Broadway half a block from Times Square and playing with my computer, though still trying to soak in some of the sunshine. There's a lot of sunshine to soak, I have to work quite hard at it.
"aren't there cars on Broadway?"
No, see, NYC decided somewhere along the way that it would be a much nicer city if several blocks worth of Broadway were shut off to cars, and just a pedestrian way. Lots of the sections have chairs and tables, though this one doesn't. I'm between 42nd and 43rd if you'd like to come visit.2
Also, gods I love pigeons.

I have been buying far too many books, although I take some small solace in the fact that they have not been very expensive at all --I think I have spent less than a twenty thus far, and earned myself two new and five used books for my trouble.
...I am intrigued by the man that just walked by and told me that I was "pretty bold". Does he mean for using my computer? Should I not be on my laptop in broad fucking daylight and surrounded by several thousand witnesses? I am not planning to be shot, if I am, please someone laugh at me.
...those girls are wearing tutus. Intriguing, they look as though they might be advertising something. Perhaps later I shall find out.
Anyways, I bought a Ray Bradbury book about dinosaurs for fifty cents, and a copy of World War Z and the first volume of Dead@17 and a copy of Vivian Vande Velde's "Rumplestiltskin Problem" and the prequel to Jumper all for a dollar each and the aforementioned new David Levithan book which is so excellent and I'm so glad I just read it and MOST IMPORTANT I bought the sequel to Rapunzel's Revenge, which I have babbled about before for half the cover price because I love love love the Strand, and I am SUPER PSYCHED to read it.
...the tutu girls came over and handed me a postcard/coupon for 20% off at Ed Hardy. And then they told me I had an awesome hat and asked for a picture. So somewhere in the world there is a picture of me sitting in the middle of Broadway flanked by a couple of beautiful girls with fantastic wild hair and tutus.
I love this city.

And another girl has asked if she could take a picture. I will use these experiences as part of the rant I am planning to write about taking pictures specifically of people and how it would be decent to actually ask those people first.

Yesterday I hung out with
mnemex some! We got sushi, and then delicious tart, and hung out in the Strand and talked about sci-fi books and not sci-fi books and other things. It was excellent!
On Thursday I got to see VERONICA! <3 <3 <3! We got ice cream, and gossiped and chatted, and it was very very neat. Also, she got to go see Philip Zimbardo talk, which probably doesn't mean nearly as much to people who didn't have Mr. Staub for psych at LRHS.
So my days have been full of seeing people and delicious treats. Which is a pretty fucking awesome way to be.

Also, I have pretty much figured out the NYC subway system, finally. Confusingly enough, uptown is up, or north, or when the numbers get higher. Downtown is the opposite. Queens is North and East, Manhattan is in the middle, Brooklyn is sorta South and East.
I don't quite know where everything comes out and goes, but at least the subway maps actually have real street names on them, unlike, say, the T. So yeah, this city rock.

I cooked last night! Brenton has work all day this weekend, which is yay work and money and such, but a bummer because I have to entertain myself and we can't hang out. But anyways, I decided to play fifties housewife for him and make dinner.
Being both a) me and b) really low on social which leads to a general lack of cope, I simply wound up deciding to make scrambled eggs, 'cause I can do that. When in the store looking for veggies, I had the idea of grabbing some potatoes, and wound up cooking eggs and potatoes with a very little bit of butter. It turned out pretty well once we added salt, though I wish I had had something green for it, and had actually gotten around to adding cheese like I intended.
So I continue to not totally fail at cooking, though for tonight I might actually want to think of a recipe and follow it rather than just throw things into a frying pan. Although I'm kinda really extremely partial to the throwing things into a frying pan method of food creation.

There were all these faces drawn in chalk along the sidewalk down near Union Square. Every once in a while, the artist had drawn a big circle and labeled it a "Good Luck Spot" --I made sure to stand in all of those that I came across, which really did reward me with some quite good luck.

The sunshine is moving over there -> which is fairly depressing, as I shall have to move momentarily. Maybe I will go find something to put in my mouth and sit on the giant steps to nowhere in the middle of Times Square proper, and write something awesome.
...or just play Jardinains. That's practically as good. Ta!

1: And I do mean in the sheer romantic "I love you and you love me and this is fucking brilliant" sense, and not in the bastardized sexual sense.
2: And I'm not actually going to stay here all that long, so visiting might be silly.
