It occurs to me that if I'm going to host a ball, I need music. So, while I can pull all manner of interesting thing to go thumpy-thump ravedance to, I have a more pressing concern:

What are some songs that are good and interesting to dance to?

By songs, I mean stuff I'm likely to have. By good and interesting, I mean...um...good, and interesting. By dance, I mean one-steps, foxtrots, polkas, tangos, schottish, swing, and, of course, waltzes of multiple speeds.

I'm actually a bit less keen on waltzes right now (though I'm always looking for more songs to add into that playlist, even as it becomes more than three hours long --variety is good!) as I have loads of them --I'm looking more as to what songs I should toss into my playlist as non-waltz dances.

Thanks and all!

There may be some stuff here (http://cylinders.library.ucsb.edu/browse.php), although the sound quality will be poor and it'll be all scratchy and stuff.

Rose will know some swing stuff. Don't know anything else for you, sorry.

... the only song that comes to mind is "Perhaps, perhaps, perhaps". It is the theme song for the British show Coupling, and I think I remember hearing it played in some sort of dance competition movie. I forget what the movie's name was, though.

Other resources to mine: So You Think You Can Dance. Probably that other dance show with celebrities, too.

I do believe we have quite a few polka CD's or can at least get our hands on them. But you would have to ask the fam. They know where they are better.

You totally have RanTan Wa-oh, you said no more waltzes, darn... that's about all i care/know about in actual genres of dance music...

. o O (though, you also have Woozalia's Bouncy Pop Harpsichord Song (a title which W came up with under duress: "You must title it so i can put it on the Poingy CD!") which i dance to all the time when folding laundry (even though it's really technically a Work In Progress)! ^_^)

I have a number of very good recordings for Scottish country dancing, including waltzes in that context and a few ceilidh-type dances like Gay Gordons and Strip the Willow. I'd be happy to burn you a mix CD if you like.

You need the vintage dance mix CDs that [personal profile] chickenhat and I put together a while ago. Also the collections of Evil Clone Central blue tapes which [personal profile] cchan8 put on CDs awhile ago. I'll see what I can do.

I can liberate my set of Blue Tapes from Larry for a while if you wish. (Those are the CDs of the tapes that Big House had on its wall for a while).

I could bring my copy of "Beethoven Wrote It, But It Swings", among others.
