How to wake up completely stone cold sober1, an hour before your alarm, and not fall back asleep:

Dream that one of the people you care about more than anything, more than life itself is dying. You're holding them in your arms, and they're dying, and you can't get help or save them. And it looks painful, and no one else Understands, and they can't communicate to you, you just know they're in unfuckingbelievable pain and you can't make it better, and you're going to have to be the one to tell everyone.

How to wake up in tears:

Have the aforementioned dream and then have no logical way to contact the above person, because they're indubitably asleep, and in the wrong time zone.

(It was just a dream. It was just a dream. It was just a dream. Oh gods...)

I'm not sure I've ever had such a frightening nightmare in my life.

1: I use sober in this case to mean stable, non-hyper, the kind of awake where you go from dead asleep to completely awake in an instant, with no sleepiness in between.

I once had a horrid similar dream that depressed me for days and I still remember it in tragic detail.

I had... it was like the ultimate hippo, small and fuzzy and pink/yellow and woolly like a sheep and as cuddly and bendy as a cat. I called him my hippocatsheep.
Then these men in black suits came and took him by the tail and dunked his face in a vat of black paint... and he choked and gurgled and drowned and he cried while he drowned and I'm getting sad just telling you about it now. *snuffles*

Man, that is awfultastic!

I am trying so hard not to go "well my dream was worse than yours", because they're both awful, and misery dick contests are lame.

I wasn't trying to have a dream-contest with you, anyway, silly.

*gives you a kitten that cuddles and snores in your ear to make it all better*

I remember once reading in a book about dreams about loved ones getting hurt because it was the only way to punish themself for doing something wrong to that person. For example if you forgot to call your girlfriend that night and went to bed and had a dream about them dying. I apologize that i cant really offer much comfort other than to say that really sucks, but i hope this isn't going to be a regularily occuring thing.

Oh gods, I know that you are trying to be helpful, but I did everything *right* when talking to this person, and so the idea that I did something that my subconcious thinks is wrong is just...ow. None of that.

And thanks, I hope it's not either.

I had a similar dream whilst at Ritzy's house. I ended up falling back asleep and mostly-forgetting about it by the time I actually woke up.
but the first wakeup was very sad.
