So, my internetgrandmother posted a meme. See, she was looking through her musicals, and seeing if she could come up with a favourite for every letter.

A is for Assassins
B is for either Big River or Blood Brothers (Happy mood, sad mood!)
C is for Chicago (as much as I want it to be Commentary! or Cats)
D is for Dr. Horrible's Sing Along Blog
E is for Evil Dead the Musical (Unless you're my dad, then it's Evita)
F is for Fiddler on the Roof
G is for Guys and Dolls
H is for anyting that is not Heisman, ohmyfuckinggod. Actually, as much as I like HMS Pinnafore, um...H is for High School Musical. *hides!*
I is for Into the Woods
J is for Jekyll and Hyde, which I manage to like more than Jane Eyre. (Though, if Jane Eyre has period dance, I may have to be biased towards it for reasons of I do like Regency dance)
K is for Kiss of the Spider Woman (Morphine Tango. It's like Zydrate Anatomy from the eighties.)
L is for Little Shop, Little Shop of Horrors (Bop-she-bop, little shop of terrors...)
M is for Mary Poppins, which doesn't have a bang1, but ought to.
N is for... um... I don't have any N musicals. Yes, I am properly ashamed.
O is for Once Upon a Mattress, although Once More With Feeling is pretty damn wonderful too.
P is for The Producers because I don't have Parade, and can't let it be Phantom. (Thanks, movie.)
Q is for Avenue Q, because I don't have any real Q musicals, either.
R is for ..ohgod. R is for Rent, or Repo!, or Rocky and I just can't decide. Probably Repo!, since I've not seen the stage version of Rocky and Rent is not as good as tick, tick...BOOM!.
S is for Sweeney Todd, because Sweeney Todd is officially my favourite musical. (But it's also for Seussical and Shock Treatment and Spamalot, and Scarlet Pimpernel, all of which I love to some extent as well)
T is for every T musical I have is amazing. Prrrrrobably [Title of Show] right now, but I really really like tick, tick...BOOM! a lot, just because it has amazing music. [Title of Show] is more cheery, though, and I do like cheery. (See j7y, not ALL my musicals are depressing. >.>)
U is for Urinetown. Like there could be any doubt! I love that show. <3
V is for my third of four fails. ErikaErikaErika, show me Victor/Victoria sometime so I can put something here?
W is for Wicked because I deeply dislike West Side Story (no, I'm really not sure why either) and I'm just not familiar enough with War of the Worlds. And because, I mean c'mon. Wicked. It's an Oz retelling and significantly better than the book, and has omgcostumeslustwant.
Xanadu is the only musical I know of that begins with X, and I haven't seen or heard of it yet.
Y is for nnnnnprobably You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown, since I haven't heard thrilling things about Young Frankenstein.
Z is for Zombie Prom. It's like Grease, only actually awesome.

And, because I am hella too verbose for my own good, I've decided to see if I can narrow it down to just one track for each letter of the alphabet.

Or rather, I did decide, and then wound up with 25 tracks for A and B. We'll see over the next couple days if I can't get it down to, say, ten tracks to each letter or something. Sigh!

Your turn! Put it in the comments or your own journal, tell me why I am wrong wrong wrong about my choices, and further educate me!

MOOP!

1: Bang = !. It's quicker and faster than saying exclamation point, and also more fun. *spends several minutes digressing about the drink !!! with anyone who'll get it*

B is for Blues Brothers! It really is a movie musical.

And The Music Man and Man of La Mancha would give Mary Poppins a good fight, I think.

The stage version of Rocky is a lot like the movie, though timing the callbacks is a lot harder. (No, I didn't let that stop me, though being just about the only person doing callbacks in the theater was kind of weird, even though the cast appreciated it.)

There's an other difference in it being a live show. My friend affirms that Tim Fucking Curry stopped dead and turned to yell at him before continuing the show.

Myah. Maybe. I'm not sure I would as much call Blues Brothers a musical, just because most of the plot happens outside of song rather than in it. That matters to dorks like me.

Mary Poppins could kick either of their asses. It has people walking on the ceiling. And Mary singing Brimstone and Treacle which is a Scary Frigging Song. I approve of a frightening Mary.

I'm glad the cast approved! Someday I'll make it to the show.

Hello Dolly! Typically inane plot, but good tunes and orchestration.

've not seen it. And that's kinda what High School Musical is all about. Awesome choreography and songs, general Disney channel plot.

Huh? That wasn't a comment about your spelling. Try saying ! and !!!; which seems like it takes longer?

Ah, I think I get what you mean? Maybe?

*goes to look up how it's spelled in the show*

Ah well, you've already posted pretty much every musical I've seen, and then some. I don't know that the few others I've seen would make the list...oh, wait. Except I would definitely swap out CHICAGO for CARNIVAL. That was awesome.

Carry on!

I saw Young Frankenstein and liked it. No cartwheels or anything, but it was plenty fun.

C is for Company. Always. I think Company is the reason I've managed to stay married for 18 years while so many friends did not.

N, N, you'd think something would come to mind. N...There's "Naked Boys Singing" but I've never seen it...

H is for High School Musical. *hides!*
I renounce you. You are no longer my granddaughter. May all of your ponies wither and die.

And Young Frankenstein is predominantly ass.

Eventually I think I'm going to post a list of my musicals and .zip the soundtracks people want from me, so you can steal Victor/Victoria (and Company, for that matter). I exist to be a musical library.

And you need Parade. It's not completely made of amazing, but I would say it is mostly made of amazing. And it has one of my favorite musical relationship dynamics between lead male and lead female.

D:

But...I like my ponies! Show me a better H musical, please, please? Because my only choices were High School Musical or fucking ass-Heisman. And believe me when I say Heisman is less enjoyable than HSM.

Just to complicate your life, have you heard The Last 5 Years (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Last_Five_Years) or Elegies (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elegies_(William_Finn))?

I've only just found out about "the last five years" in the past month, and I want a copy SO BAD! It sounds amazing.

I am totally unfamiliar with Elegies, though. *clicks on shinylink*
