So, I'm on Neopets, and this water faerie appears and asks me to do a quest for her, because that's what faeries do on Neopets.

I say, rather loudly "No, I'm not going to get your book for you, you dumb-ass faerie!"

Aly immediately pipes up with "Please don't use that as an insult, it makes me uncomfortable" I stare at her for a moment. "Oh, you were talking to an actual faerie, weren't you?"

It is extremely important that I come up with a good joke here but I can't, so I'll simply say, "what? dumb ass-faerie?"

Before reaching the end of the post I thought "dumb-ass" made her uncomfortable. I haven't heard fairy (faeries have wings) as an insult since I was in high school.

Ah... I see.

Is it bad that I automagically xkcdified "No, I'm not going to get your book for you, you dumb-ass faerie!" into "No, I'm not going to get your book for you, you dumb ass-faerie!"?

No, not bad in the slightest. Even though I still use the adjective-ass noun phrasing, I pretty much always automatically turn it into adjective ass-noun.

The problem is, the phrase "ass-faerie" makes the whole thing sound even MORE inappropriate that it already did.
