So!
It's a commonly known secret that the Sorcyress doesn't actually know how to cook. She makes a pretty bitchin' sous-chef (You! Chop these vegetables! Wash these dishes! Climb this building!!1), but when it comes to the actual cooking part, she is...inexperienced, lets say.
The only way to get experience is to practise, really. Which is why, when my stomach told me it was hungry around lunch time today, I listened to my impulsive side, and decided to actually cook something. (Wait, no spaghettios? Tragedy!) So!
Culinary Experiment #001: Eggs Etc.
The one thing I really do know how to make already is scrambled eggs. In the past nine months or so, I've been introduced to the idea that eggs don't have to just have *eggs* in them. You can add all manner of interesting things, which is how I came up with the idea of making "scrambled eggs-plus-whatever-else-I-feel-like-throwing-in", also known as "Eggs Etc."
The first step was to find ingredients. Now, I love my mother very much, and she's a wonderful person, but cooking is not exactly her strong suit. So it's always a bit of a toss up as to whether the necessary ingredients for *anything* will be in the house. Luckily for all involved, we had eggs, which meant I could actually proceed.
Shortly, I had a cutting board covered in delicious things.
Three eggs seemed to be a good number. A handful of mixed stir fry veggies (gods bless Market Day2) added the 'green' I wanted, a stick of cheese was pretty much a necessity for eggs, and, as I have no qualms about eating cute adorable animals, I chopped up some ham (Yay deli meats. Sigh). As a final seasoning, I decided to use some teriyaki sauce.
Unrelated to anything, I can crack eggs with one hand. This is a stupid talent that I really really enjoy having. And thus, you get video:
Once I had all the ingredients, and had checked the interwobs to make sure I wasn't going to somehow accidentally damage mom's Calphalon pan by cooking with it, I was ready to begin! All the proper ingredients were tossed into the pan, along with a couple dollops of teriyaki sauce for good measure.
I, uh...cooked them like I always cook eggs --heat a little above medium, stir. Once the eggs become solid and no longer look like they're going to kill me, declare them done. Seriously guys, I think I learned how to make scrambled eggs when I was about ten, because they are the easiest damn thing to cook ever.
SO! I tasted them, wondering if I had inadvertently wasted three eggs. But no, my culinary experiment was a success!! It could've used more teriyaki sauce, the ham should've been in bigger chunks, I should have added the cheese later so it was still semi-solid, and it was about one egg too many for me to comfortably eat. But even with those setbacks, I had made a delicious sort of lunch.
CULINARY EXPERIMENT #001: Success!

MOOP!
1: If you don't get why a sous-chef needs to climb a building, you probably haven't been playing enough 'Devil Bunny Needs a Ham'
2: Market Day is this fundraiser the elementary school does. Basically, it's a company that makes all manner of delicious foods for you to heat and eat, or, occasionally, actually do something with. We're huge fans of the assorted veggies they sell, and you can usually find two or three big bags in one of our freezers.

on 2008-05-16 03:48 am (UTC)Apparently, when the cook asks you to crack 3 dozen eggs into a bucket, that's what you're expected to do.
