Many little bits of life
Mar. 6th, 2022 10:10 pmToday was a pretty good day once I did An Exercise and I'm kinda annoyed to realize that.
I spent most of the beginning of the day very very braindead and out of it. Unfortunately this included the time I was running bells --I think I did an acceptable job of making sure Service Ringing went well and we did good things for all the different levels of ringers present, but it was in a reasonably foggy mode.
(I'm not totally sure why I was so fogged --I slept a goodly chunk, although plausibly I'm still catching up on sleep from the past week, in which I slept like _crap_.)
Anyways, brain fog followed me home and meant I spent the home-time just...flopped on the bed playing phone games and reading dumb comics and not really doing...anything that I view as productive. And then suddenly it was 5:25 and I had to rush and throw on a skirt and a bra and go to demo team to practice the dances we're gonna do for NEFFA.
And like...demo team has been pretty brainweird for a few years now for lots of very complicated reasons (strongly related to the ways that Scottish in general has been weird lately, no I don't really want to get into this, it is still my truest love it's just...hard to love sometimes and doesn't always feel like it loves me back ANYways) but tonight went really well! I was fogged out for much of it, but was increasingly present which was nice, and felt really really good during end-stretching.
Plus I really adore getting to spend time with Sharon, who gave me a lift, and is genuinely one of my best friends in the SCD scene. She's sharp and funny and very acerbic in a way that feels very familiar to me, while also being generous and curious and empathetic. We had some pretty good talk on the way home about gender and presentation (I got to explain what a binder was) and other good stuff.
(She and her husband are going to retire home to Scotland someday, which is absolutely tragic except that it means I'll have a bed available in the UK should I go a'visiting).
Came home from that and ate pizza and flopped in the living room with Ezri and Rey. Ezri spent the weekend at Easthill doing the Tech Squares weekend --I've had a lot of fun there some years, but I wasn't ready to go back this one, especially because I've only ever been an inconsistent Easthiller (and square dancer) and it feels especially weird to jump back in for a Big Event when I haven't been attending anything smaller in ages (even pre-pandemic).
We had some good gossip about that, and then a nice discussion about romance novels, and then Austin came over to pack up his things (he's been basing out of my house this weekend, with both of us separating in the afternoons to do our own things) and we all got distracted for quite a while looking at fancy wooden puzzles.
Now I am sitting on the bed doing words, and Austin is nominally packing. Theoretically if I can get my words done in time, he will tuck me in --which like...on the one hand, my school night bedtime is still nearly an hour from now, but on the other, christ could I use the sleep, and there is something impossibly nice about being tucked in when possible.
Tomorrow I have so! many! things! to do and so many hats to wear. Teaching, PD to learn how to use the Fabrication Lab at our school1, chat with a person about doing my gender 101 presentation for the group they run, teaching Scottish at Mondayclass! And then there's a union meeting on Tuesday (we are likely to spend a goodly chunk talking masks and _whee_) and a doctor's appointment on Thursday and I am very lucky that Wednesday does not have anything but the normal many things to do because I will need the afternoon off.
Tuesday is visiting next weekend, and I might be able to bring her to Old North bells (if she comes to Friday night practice, that will've been her third time practicing and therefore she's officially Learning To Ring and not just A Tourist and the former is allowed while the latter is still prohibited) which would be nice, because it is one of my favourite places in the world and I'd like her to see it.
There are six weeks until my next vacation (which will involve going to see mek for the first time in 26 months!)
Things will be okay.

MOOP!
1: I believe there are four two hours sessions, and four hours of outside work --I only maybe will do the outside work, since school only requires 12 hours of PD a year and I'm already well past that
