Ughghhhhhhhhhh
Sep. 11th, 2019 05:31 pmAs of Friday night, my laptop is fucked. Won't turn on at all. Genius bar has confirmed it's not the power supply or battery. She was nearly six years old, so now I'm having heaps of "oh god I fucking hate change" around the idea of replacing, rather than repairing.
(Yes, I have general environmental concerns around replacing rather than repairing. One of the steps in this process will be finding out if the local shop -which is to say quite literally the teenagers who attend the school I work at- is capable of the repair, because if I bring it to Apple proper, we're looking at $500. However, if we're looking at me paying a third the cost of a new box _anyways_ that might be a "welp, save up and get something new" moment.)
Assuming I did back her up just before moving (which really should've been the case), I'm not worried about getting any of the stuff back off her. I haven't synced photos or phone or what-have-you since then, so wevs.
Also Apple is _this close_ to completely relaunching everything with the new OS coming out soon, so like...everything I know'll be wrong twice over. There's a version of this plan where I consider having "not a mac" as well, but it's hard to shake the propaganda that most other computer brands are kinda BSoDy.
(That, and all computing forever is doing about six different things I hate, starting emphatically with "CLOUD STORAGE FIVEEVER!" I will keep "real" copies of _everything I own_ backed up _everywhere_ or I will have death.)
I suppose what I _should_ do is make a list of what I actually want in a computer and go from there. Sigh.
Anywho, I'd like to be posting more --I've even written posts!-- but it took me this many days to stop twitching about the very idea of logging into dreamwidth on the work lappy. Sigh. Hopefully I will be back online proper-like soon.
