We begin the homeagain

I have left California.
The last day with Fetian was extremely chill. We walked 'round the corner and we walked 'round the block1 and got our breakfast. It was a lovely day out, and a nice way to start the day. It was good to have one last day of wandering around in not-too-many layers and feeling the sunshine on my skin. I will be in Boston soon (where soon is still waaaay too many hours of traveling away) and I will dream of warmer days.
Came home and did some last video games. We've been running a homebrew restaurant in PlateUp that was going quite swimmingly --almost unfortunate that I had to leave since we were in The Zone, honestly. And we had time to play a little more Shinkansen0, which really rounded out the anomaly-hunting video games we've managed to play this week. Fetian said on the car ride to the airport that I am good at them, which is quite flattering.
Yesterday we went to the Escape Room, which was a lovely time --it turns out the two of us are a pretty decent Escape Room Team. We didn't murder each other, despite being given a sword (which like...as props go, I _sorta_ expected that one to be zip-tied shut or whatever). And we solved everything with about a minute to spare! Felt quite satisfying.
I am now in travel-hell, which honestly has mostly been "playing video games in PDX airport" but has also included a brief stint of "watching movies in the PDX airport microcinema, one of my favourite things at any airport ever". Honestly I might like the concept even more than the Knob Shrine2? No, impossible, The Knob Shrine is perfect in every way. But the Microcinema does serve better for long layovers.
(The movies themselves were kinda mediocre today, but I still really enjoy having an excuse to sit down and watch a 60-90 minute loop of people's passion projects, even if they're not specifically my jam. It feels like Good Art to do this.)
The rest of the evening will be "doing constructive things like writing my words and maybe grading in PDX airport" and "I dunno, maybe sleeping??? (in PDX airport)". My flight out to Boston leaves at 7am. You try and decide something better to do with the time.
I will get home sometime in the early evening, probably more than 24 hours of travel (the time zones, as always, make things tricky) and I will be floppy and then go to sleep early and then be verrrrry sad tomorrow morning when I have to go to school. It's okay. I will survive and stuff.
I hope you are well and happy!

1: Fellow girl scouts, which is to say probably just Veronica, but who knows, maybe some others are out there? Anyways, y'all know where this is going.
2: Favourite Airport Features Ever (approximately in order):
1) The Knob Shrine at SeaTac
2) The PDX Microcinema
3) The BWI aeroplane fun lounge with the incredibly stupid ATC game that I managed to find for my phone and was playing regularly for a while
4) The glass octopodes at Logan
5) "Li'l Love Lounge" which is the worst name for a children's playspace ever, looking at you Dallas Love Field
6) Anywhere that has airport-trains but especially SeaTac's giant warren of them, and ATL's super long one
7) YOW. Not anything about the location itself --I've never been-- but our family has had a YOW luggage tag hanging on our Christmas tree as long as I can remember. It's a good code!
Least Favourite Airport Features Ever:
1) The entirety of PHL. There are a great many people I love and respect in that city, but yinz'z airport sucks bricks and has such an evil vibe to it.

on 2025-02-24 07:21 pm (UTC)Not placing those offhand. My traditional favorite at Logan is the big Rube Goldberg Device in -- Terminal E, I want to say? -- but I'm not sure whether it's still there...
