California adventures days 4 and 5? 5 and 6? Something like that!
Yesterday's adventure was to go see the DINOSAURS. This was an extremely tourist trap kind of adventure, but fun to do with Fetian. We went off on train-and-bus until we were fairly far out, and then crept into a repurposed industrial building/convention center sort of dealie. It had been decked out with fake foliage and dinosaur animatronics and fun-fact style information. The information was...more accurate than the animatronics, we think! They didn't always match perfectly. The animatronics were in good condition and kinda fun to look at, even though there was also Too Much Smoke Machine and weird lighting conditions going on.
The best part was the little interactive crafts room at the end, where you got to colour a dinosaur and the scan it and it was "brought to life" and you could see your coloured-in dino wandering around the screen with the other dinos. There was also a sand-and-fossil table (which we largely annoyed) and some photo-ops. Fetian got a picture of me inside a dino egg, and both of us complained that the photo-ops *riding* the dinosaurs were restricted to 12-and-under.
Home again home again, and the rest of the day was good laziness. That continued into today! Today was somewhat of a rest day, and tomorrow we'll go out into the world again to try an Escape Room. (it's a nationwide chain, and we picked one of the rooms that sounded good and *then* managed to ask my mom if she'd ever been. "oh yeah, a couple times. Looks like the only one I've done of the ones in Sac was "The Gift", it's really good!". Cue fist-pumping on our part that that's the one we'd chosen, fairly arbitrarily. We'll see how it is tomorrow!)
Rest day means media and video games --more of the latter than the former this time around. We are finally watching Our Flag Means Death season 2 (no spoilers please). We've seen the first three episodes and both of us are ??? and also !!! at various bits of it all. (note to self, I should write more spoilers for the spoilers thread in the forum). We've also watched some random YouTube boys (I have been introduced to TomSka and find him charming), mostly with Ash.
Video games has been our usual PlateUp fascination (we moved on from the murder restaurant to totally conquer toast, and more recently with Ash we had a Good Spaghetti Run) with a smattering of Diddy Kong Racing (I am almost okay at the car, and complete pants at the plane and hovercraft). Fetian has also been introducing me to various horror-anomoly-observation games, which has been extremely neat! I played through Exit 8 and Platform 8 with his help, and the two of us have been ending the evenings with "I'm On Observation Duty" which works great until I fall asleep. Good ambient creepiness, and it's fun because it's largely just a big ol' "spot the difference" puzzle but more unsettling!
I have not done any grading, so that'll be a fun adventure for the Portland airport on Saturday night, I imagine. In between finding out what their microcinema is playing. I have been reading a bit --I'm in the middle of both Ministry of Time (good! diverse! depressing!?) and Swallows and Amazons (good? "Of It's Time" which is to say "Colonialist as Shit and kinda racist"! Soothing in that nothing truly bad seems to happen and the children go on nice adventures!)
At some point I wish to draw a picture of Dick's Discount Dinosaurs and his cheap animatronics. This is mostly just committing to paper that I want to do this.
