I had a moment of considering whether it's worth taking a day off work sometime to go not during school holidays, but then decided given field trips and whatnot, that's probably still somewhat crowded. I think I've found the real secret is to go in early April on one of those first 75 degree and sunny days when no one wants to be inside (but of course, neither will you).
