Some things from the very recent past:
*Got my covid booster yesterday, finally. I originally wanted to get it in the very first batches open to the public, but CVS fucked up my order and I only just managed to get back around to it. So far my only symptom had been a sore arm, but there might be some fatigue given how hard I crashed.
*Went to see the School Musical this year, which was Kinky Boots! Minerva42 and Austin went with me --I like getting to bring my friends to my workplace to see the cool students, none of whom are actually mine, but all of whom are spiritually mine. The show was a _lot_ of fun, the band was *top notch* the sound design was...better than last year, and the lighting was flawless.
Lola was _amazing_ and so well played! The other roles were decent. Charlie was hapless and awkward in a delicious way that I *think* was an awkward high schooler being perfectly typecast, and not actually the best acting I've ever seen in a high school theatre.
It's my first time seeing the musical, and it was a lot of fun! I wanna pick up the songs now --maybe mom'll have the CD when I visit Maryland in a few weeks.
*Got I love getting to say "Maryland" again when talking about my parents <3
*Did not do a particularly good job of getting work done today, which is maybe partly booster-reaction, and mostly general exhaustion from the end of the week. Nine and a half more school days until winter break, but ~who's counting~?
*Austin followed me home and made pancakes for dinner while I hung out on my phone and that was cozy, even if I did not contribute as much as I could to the pancake construction. Then we went upstairs and mutually crashed as hard as I ever have --I think we were both passed out by 9:30. I'm glad to have woken so I can write my words and not break streak, but oh, my poor awkward cricked neck.
I don't know what else much to say. I hope you are doing well and happy.

on 2023-12-09 06:12 am (UTC)I think you may have just seen the production in which the child of friends of my godchild's parents is playing the character they describe as The Worst Man, as read off social media tonight when we were all sitting around after Friday night services/dinner.
[edit] A strong contender for the best acting I have seen in a high school theater remains one of my favorite interpretations of Bottom in A Midsummer Night's Dream, which I had never seen before and have never seen since and still don't know why, because it was brilliant. Slim, fair-haired, with a sensitive face behind square-framed glasses, the actor was easily the conventionally best-looking of the mechanicals and the most articulate, so it was obvious why he fancied himself the star of the company and even why he was getting away with it—his enthusiasm was appealing rather than obnoxious, even if he doesn't really know all the five-dollar words he thinks he does and has a tendency to try to do too many things with his hands at once. And then he gets his part and he scans his lines and he hits his marks and the man is ham on toast. It's disastrously endearing. If you could just get him to deliver his lines with the unselfconscious earnestness with which he holds a conversation, he'd be magnificent. It's never going to happen. That's not ~A*C*T*I*N*G~. Peter Quince was resigned to being fond of him and the audience followed suit. His one moment of true theatrical magic was the malaproptastic soliloquy of "Bottom's Dream," in which he managed to convey through all the broken metaphors that something strange and rare and fleeting really had touched him and it worked strictly because he wasn't trying to put it across to an audience. It was great.
