Tonight was the Ancient Universities dance gig! I was the _prettiest_ marshmallow, by which I mean a deeply bitter batch of sourness, forcing myself to be OBSESSIVELY CHEERFUL in order to pretend I'm not suffering from major a-number-one dysphoria.

It turns out that somewhere along the way I stopped liking dancing the woman's role on demo team. (This is about seventy-five percent the fault of the marshmallow dress). Usually we have more "women" than "men" and so no one bothers me when I insist on putting on a kilt and dancing on the dude side. Tonight however, we actually had a beautifully "balanced" six couples, and so I got femmeified. Trying to decide if I'm gonna actively do anything about this, like suggest that I should be considered a man for demo team purposes or something.

Anyways, besides the wicked marshmallowosity (gods I hate this fucking white dress --I may identify as Herald1 more strongly than anything, but, like Kero and Tarma, I consider it to be a "shoot me now" thing to wear.) I had an actually *splendid* time! I met a very charming couple of young ladies (who were fast to introduce the idea of "yeah, we're definitely partners and not just in the Gals Being Pals way" and wow, I still don't know what exactly it is about queer that draws us to each other, but apparently my gaydar does not suck) who were SUPER ENTHUSIASTIC and very into the idea of dancing as many dances as possible and thrilled and bubbly and I may have convinced them to come try Monday night dancing! That would be _super cool_ if it actually goes through.

Also there was coke to drink, which does not usually happen, and the tables were covered with roses as decorations and I somehow wound up with four of them stuffed into my bodice. They're in a vase now, being very pretty and lovely. So again, all in all an a-plus excursion, b minus if you include the ridiculous fucking dress and the petticoat that doesn't fit right.

((I got to Austin's place and he threatened me with graham crackers, because it turns out I date wonderfully ridiculous people.))

Now I just need to fill out the appropriate scheduling poll for NEFFA, and confirm to myself that yes I'm definitely gonna do demo team NEFFA this year and that's the next time you can see me dance performance-style! Oh, and in March I am teaching at CambridgeClass (in Watertown) so I should really put together some Very Good dances for that and advertise to the people I love so that they come dance with me.

Dancing is fun, and I continue to adore that it eats so much of my life!

MOOP!

1: Mercedes Lackey's "Heralds of Valdemar" books were a wholly foundational series for me, and I still reread By The Sword about once every eighteen months. Speaking of which, I'm probably due, hmmm...

What normally happens, when the genders aren't "balanced"? Do you end up trying to evenly distribute kilts vs. dresses, or do some dresses pair with dresses?

Pretty sure even the Heralds who like the whites would find the marshmallow dresses to be ... impractical.
