So, the con is overall going fairly well, though an unexpected emotional punch in the stomach this morning has left me in a state melancholic. That and I really don't know anyone here, and the people I do know are either selling things (and as much as I like Dirk and Shaenon, I can't exactly just hang around their table all day and get in the way, though at the same time, I do keep checking in with Dirk in order to be miniony) or busy playing games (like currently Marc, Keira, Foster, and newfriends Ally and Sens, which would be _basically everyone I know at this con_.)

On the plus side, there was a My Immortal "You Laugh, You Lose" reading last night, and I _kicked ass_. I not only managed to finish off a chapter without laughing, but I put my dramatic skills to the test, and was complimented afterwards by one of the redshirts running the event. So I am suddenly much more hopeful for whenever book club has *its* next My Immortal reading, because damn. That is a...something work of literature.

I solved my general "I don't technically have a place to stay" problem by meeting very nice people of the consent-oriented, kinky, poly, QUILTBAG variety, proving once again that not every stranger is going to murder you in your sleep and steal your stuff. Some of them will instead give you fudge and steal you cushions from the couch in the basement to sleep on.

I also lost my keys. This was before either of them had any opportunity to steal them, so yeah, this is just me being a profound dumbkopf. I needed those keys. I don't remember when I last had them --with luck they are in my room, without...yeah. I will check in various lost and founds soon.

There's a lot of anime kids and cosplayers here. I don't know if it's an actual majority or if they're just the most obnoxiousloudest segment of the con population, but it's throwing me out a little --I don't really know anything about anime, so I'm usually a little too intimidated to make friends. Also, people who insist upon yaoi in every piece of media they consume, often loudly? Look, I like boys kissing as much as the next girl, but just because there is a boy in your work does not mean I automatically think he ought to be slashed.

Hm. I am possibly a little more cruel than normal because I am hungry. I should go fix that a little bit, since I do still have food in my bag.

On the plus side of everything, I am getting better at juggling and I've gotten to play with my hoop once. I wish the weather was as nice as yesterdays, I would totally go outside and try and teach myself some tricks --I am starting to be able to get it to stay up around my knees, though not for any longer than a minute or so. As the weather gets nicer, research will become necessary, and seeing if YouTube or something is willing to teach me how to do neat things with a hula hoop.

Also, music is so key. I've been quietly singing "Sympathetic Vibrations" all over the place the past two days or so. We are the blood inside the veins that fill this city full of life. <3 Of all Paper Raincoat, it's the bounciest song, and manages to hit the best notes for blending from depressed and hurting to something a little more cheerful.

Same Old Things is getting put onto one of my secret playlists for being perfect and awful. Someone remind me to do that? But yes! That is life, it seems. Off to lunch and who knows, maybe I will find something interesting to do afterwards. If not, I have a novel to read and novels to write. I'll be just fine.

I feel as though I should be apologizing for those folks. They piss me off too. I'm sorry.

Fah. You should not have to apologize for other people in your reasonable subgroup who act like idiots. To draw an extreme example, that is along similar lines (though obviously a significantly lesser extent) like asking or expecting Muslims to constantly be apologizing for the fact that some extremists do terrible things.

Mostly I just ignore them. Means I wind up chatting primarily with gentlemen who've decades on me, but they're full of interesting stories about costuming and re-enactment, so that's okay.

Thank you.

I guess I just have this instinct to try and cover my tracks, to be like "Well they're all crazy BUT I PROMISE I'M NOT JUST BECAUSE I LIKE THE SAME CARTOONS! OH GOD PLEASE LOVE ME!" Which is not necessarily rational or right.

(semi-related, I have all three seasons of Avatar now, so if you want to check out the first one, just say so)
