If you missed it, deviantART added an 'other' option, changed 'gender' to 'sex' when you register (because apparently they need to know what you've got between your legs to run their site), and are planning on adding a customisable field for gender on your profile (I'm not holding my breath). http://transfinite.dreamwidth.org/216787.html
At least they finally apologised for the appalling behaviour of their help desk people, but it's still too little too late for me, and just the most recent straw of dA screwing over its users.
