This is reminding me a lot of a recent email dialogue with a certain male relative: the same dismissiveness, the same not-getting-it, the same ignoring whatever you say. I'm quite sure that if I were visibly female, he would be firing that "irrationality" claim as well because I still remember the first (and last) time I went to him for emotional advice, and he flat out told me "women are irrational" -- as if that explained anything, as if males were always completely rational, as if calling someone "irrational" meant that you didn't have to care what they thought or felt about anything.

On a minor note, I often get so angry and/or distressed that I wish I could cry, but either I have too much antihistrionin1 or else my emotional make-up has changed over the years to the point where I just can't relax enough for that release. (This is not a complaint, but an observation that crying -- or feeling like it -- doesn't mean you are wrong.)

1. Made-up name for hypothetical crying-inhibitory hormone found in larger quantities in the adult male body than in female bodies or immature male bodies.
