sorcyress: A character from a comic about the maintenance workers of the universe, holding a thumbs up and saying "MOOP!" (Zonker-MOOP!)

So, those who've been watching this space for a long enough period of time may have noticed that I have an epic failing of not being able to dress *up* for things. This includes any instance where I have to look professional (oh, do I ever hate my field placements) and more importantly, just about every dance, ever.

I may have more or less gotten past it all with SCD, and contra's easy, you just wear something that swishes, but any other time I go dancing, it's pretty much gurenteed to be prefixed by a frantic "whatthehelldoIwear?!" to whoever's closest1

I am, for the first time since I first was invited(in 2006) going to go to the Regency Assembly, held every year in New Haven. Being as there are only like...six Regency-era dancers ever, this is the only proper ball they get, and therefore kind of a big deal.

Oh god, cue panic. Because not only should I wear something pretty, I should wear something DOUBLE-pretty. And formal. But still something I can dance with, which pretty much strikes my green dance. And not glittery, because ohman, glitter, which strikes my senior prom dress. And....oh curses! I haven't got any other formal dresses. Some days it sucks to be me.

Or it would. You know. If I didn't own a blue brocade tailcoat. See, every once in a while, my brain can be very *very* helpful. "You're having far too much trouble with this girl thing, my dear." it offers. "Why not be a boy? Wear those tights, and that vest, and the white shirt that you *know* you have (because I needed to buy it for my MM costume) and voila.

Or in other words, I'm going to look, well...not period. And I *really* need to invest in breeches that fit. And at some point I ought to learn a proper knot for my cravat, rather than the thing I half-remember from Balticon like...two years ago.

But goddamnit, it's more period than as a girl, I'll be able to do handstands, and all the colours are close enough to matching that I think they look good together. AND it's a whole twelve hours before I have to leave. I'm calling this a win.

MOOP!

((Also, I only just noticed that I'm essentially going to be wearing all kinds of Gabe's colour. I should really draw that, it would make him unbelievably excited with me))

1: Usually poor, long-suffering, Magus. If he didn't A) invite me to dancey things that it would be nice to wear clothes to, and B) consistently look oodles better than me at all of these (due to actually having period costume, for the most part) I would feel more guilty about whining at him.

/me sickers at the comment about the cravat. As just about anything you can think of doing in a cravat knot would be considered proper. I tend towards a simple cross variant.

No dance suggestions, but a simple dress like this (http://www.target.com/Merona-Collection-Merino-Turtleneck-Sweater/dp/B002CVC4U4/ref=br_1_4?ie=UTF8&frombrowse=1&searchView=grid5&searchNodeID=1263545011&node=1263545011&searchRank=pmrank&searchPage=1&rh=tgt_1%3AA-Line&searchSize=30&id=Merona%20Collection%20Merino%20Turtleneck%20Sweater) would be great for professional situations. You can wear it as is, with a scarf or add a jacket. Wrap (http://www.target.com/Merona-Ruffle-Wrap-Sweater-Burgundy/dp/B002MFTJZI/ref=br_1_8?ie=UTF8&frombrowse=1&searchView=grid5&searchNodeID=2207096011&node=2207096011&searchRank=salesrank&searchPage=1&searchSize=30&id=Merona%20Ruffle%20Wrap%20Sweater%20Burgundy) dresses (http://www.target.com/Converse-One-Star-Wrap-Dress/dp/B002CZCPCM/ref=br_1_9?ie=UTF8&frombrowse=1&searchView=grid5&searchNodeID=2207096011&node=2207096011&searchRank=salesrank&searchPage=1&searchSize=30&id=Converse%20One%20Star%20Wrap%20Dress) are also nearly fool proof. They look great on just about any body type and are an easy way to look professional.
