M-I-C, K-E-Y...
Sep. 17th, 2024 09:45 pmTwice in the last week I have encountered mice, which is...not great. I remain phobic --and the reaction I have to them is so totally different from every other fear reaction that I feel comfortable making that distinction.
On the plus side, I talked about it with my therapist today, and she was big on the "let's frame this as compassionately as possible" for me, which is yes her job but also a kindness that I should try and remember to do more often.
One of the things that came up was a "how often does this fuck with your life"? sort of thing, which put a nice perspective on it --I'm not sure I can remember the last time I specifically had to cope with a mouse before this week. Rats sure, and I am still also phobic of rats, but it's a lot less so and there's been a *lot* more exposure therapy there. Partly from friends with pet ratties who'll let me hold them for exactly as long as I feel comfortable and then pass them back, but honestly mostly from just...existing in a city.
At any rate, I'm hoping this week is a fluke, because I'm not gonna cope well if we've gone from "never" to "twice a week" on the mice front.
